“Best Place Ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2011

I stayed at The Royal with my Mom and boyfriend for my 21st birthday. It was not the usual college kid party spot, but instead a sophisticated and relaxing vacation spot. The staff was courteous and the food was absolutely amazing. Everything was perfect.

This was our first time in Cancun, so I used the previous reviews as a guide. I was not let down! From the moment we stepped out of our shuttle we were received warmly and with great courtesy. We were a little dismayed to hear they don't take American Express, since it is our main card. Lucky we had remembered a Visa we never use. After check-in we were taken to our little apartment (too big to call a room) and informed of our "orientation" the next day. To be honest, we knew it was a sales pitch and didn't show up (sorry!)...we were too busy enjoying the clear, turquoise water over white, powdery sands. To be fair, if we had been in the market for a time-share, there's is no doubt this resort would be on the top of the list. It is quiet, relaxing, intimate, and delivered what we wanted for our family. If you need more, it is well-situated to hop on a bus or cab for a quick ride, or just walk to local entertainment. We walked to the Embarcadero to go on the pirate ship with our 7-year old son. Another day we walked there to board the ferry to Isla Mujeres to spend the day. The resort has enough free things to keep you busy. We played Tennis in the morning when we woke up early enough - I'm not fond of the heat after 9 a.m. We missed our chance to take sailing lessons, but we'll just have to save that for next year. We had brought our own snorkeling gear, but it was available for checkout too. The sea in the area is very calm and full of tropical fish nibbling away at the seaweed that grows in the low-traffic areas. Under the pier in the afternoon was the fish jackpot.
I do think that what made the stay so special was the quality of the personnel. Every member of the staff was flawlessly helpful, ready to drop everything to meet our needs. We got to know our beach- and pool-side waitresses the best, since we made them work the hardest. Patricia was warm and ready to chat (my mom's favorite), and brought us the best margaritas (rocks please!) and killer pina coladas. Araceli knew us all by name, and Sharon was sweet and quiet, all of them ready to serve our most demanding needs.
There's only one restaurant, La Palapa, a traditional building with soaring palm leaf ceilings over wooden rafters, open on all sides to let the breeze through. We had most of our meals there, since it was so convenient, and it had such an amazing view. It was mesmerizing to see the palms swaying over the white sands, with that striking blue ocean as a backdrop. Add a drink sipped out of a pineapple with a goofy clown face and it is my kind of paradise.
The rooms themselves were more comfortable than luxurious, always spotlessly clean, as was the resort itself. The beds were the best part. I loved the privacy of having two separate bedrooms so we could still be together even though we were five. The kitchen had everything we needed and we were able to buy incidentals at the mini-market on-site. We didn't have an ocean view, which was a shame. There were some units with patios you could step right out onto the beach from, and it sure looked worth the cost.
We were left wanting so much more; if only we had booked our vacation for longer!

This is the jewel off the beaten path in Cancun. If you want big waves, big beach and glass houses go to The Sands. We stayed thru tropical rain for three days but the people were wonderful and friendly and were a joy. From concierge Josh to Luis who worked in the market everyone tried their best to make our stay pleasent. Our villa was clean and Maria did an excellent job. We were located on the lower level in unit B413. We had a nice view of the boats coming into the dock. It was a very short walk to the La Palapa restaurant, the pool, or the beach. We made reservations in the main lobby to go to Chicken Itza. It was a pleasent transaction and we had a marvelous day. We took the free shuttle to The Sands. Very convenient. We made our airport transfer arrangements thru Thomas Moore. They met us at the airport and took us there on Saturday. The only part of the stay at the resort that I was not impressed with was the sales pitch. Also the breakfast at the restaurant was not very good We bought food and ate in our villa. The lunch and dinners were very good. We especially liked the fish tacos and lobster night. The pool was nice. Watch the step under the bridge its hard to see. They also have another pool which is used for watersports. Equalize and volleyball.

My In-Laws, wife and friends received exceptional service from everyone there but one gentlemen stood out among the rest. His name tag said "Diaz" but after speaking with him, his whole name was Floricel Lopez Diaz and he is truly one of the nicest guys I have ever met. He was very quiet, timid in his demeanor but was very gracious and hospitable to all of us. He got us anything we needed in the blink of an eye and was always there when we turned around. He always wore a smile on his face and treated my family and me like one of his own and for that, he deserves kudos. We sometimes forget that while they are there to perform a job and provide a service that they too are people like you and I. He quickly realized that we were down to earth just like him and that smile got even bigger when he realized it. Thanks for the level of service Diaz and hope to see you soon.

Room Tip: Stay in a Junior Office Front Suite. View was amazing!

I have stayed and visited in several of The Royal Hotels. One thing I can say about this one is that they should not be part of The Royal family. The attitude and courtesy of the staff is awful, and service is not good. The beach, I'm sorry to say but sucks, that is not a beach what they have is like a lagoon. Now, you want the best service and the most courteous staff that even the gardener, smiles to you and says good morning, opens the doors, act right away on your request and have great beaches? Try either The Royal Sands or The Royal Mayan.
They were not enough to do in the hotel, only wi-fi signal was the lobby or the pool, nothing in the rooms. The rooms were not the best things but they were ok.
I think I got enough from Mexico.

Room Tip: Try other of the Royals like Mayan or Sands.

Dear Guest,

I'm sorry to read that you felt that way about The Royal Cancun. However, you did not provide much details. In order to review our service and make the necessary adjustments, we'd need you to be more specific about what you didn't like.

The Royal Cancun is located on a beautiful, sheltered beach with calm, shallow waters which has been a favorite of our members and guests for many years. The Royal Cancun even achieved TripAdvisor's Top 10 Traveler's Choice for Families Award in 2009.

Having said this, I'm glad to read that you enjoy our other resorts -The Royal Sands and The Royal Mayan- and would be happy to welcome you back anytime.

Warm regards from Cancun.

I have to say we had a fabulous time. The entire staff was fabulous and so friendly. The food in the resturant was good and the waitresses very attentive on the beach and at the pool. The room was beautiful and the view from the 3 balonys was unbeatable. I would definitely stay there again.

Immaculate, friendly, smaller, comfy, convenient, quiet, nice amenities and a good value. That's a decent list! This hotel has nice condo style villas, two pools, a reasonably good restuarant with a great view, and is super clean and service oriented. Front desk and employees were nice and helpful. The beach is nice, however no waves and is very shallow and is near the Embarcadero, so there are several ferries and large ferries and ships that come and go. This is an excellent choice for families. We loved having a kitchen, so we did not have to eat every meal out.
Car rental, store, local travel/tour agent on site, activities, sailboats all available. We would definitely come back.

Room Tip: ask for beach front
