After reading some of the reviews I was very concerned about our trip to this resort, we usually stay at the Moon Palace. I should not have been concerned. The rooms were great, light, bright, airy and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful and did not care what color braclet we were wearing. We ate in all three of the resturantes and were able to wear shorts and sandles to them. The beach had just been renourished and it was beautiful. We went to the Lagoon and had a great time there and were treated very well over there also. The sales staff never bothered us, they asked if we wanted a tour we said no and they never bothered us again.

I did see some folks who were very unhappy with their vacations. I have to say, they were the cause of their unhappiness. They insisted on breaking the rules and made the life of the staff miserable. The staff didn't want them around and frankly neither did the rest of us.

I would recommend this resort to others.

Just came back from the Royal Sunset, beach better than before and better than most. Building and facilities just great and staff could not be any better. Third time there and each time a great treat. Looking forward to to going back twice this year.

They are very over priced in the all all inclusive rate. We talked with guests paying anywhere from $58-94 per day. The $58 would have only been close. Due to the huricane they had limited services but the rate was not reduced to reflect. We arrived at 4:30 pm to find no resturant open. We were directed to the pool snack bar only to find food that had clearly been out for hours. We were told they were closing at 5 so no new food was coming. The only resturant where they serve you is by reservation only and you have to make those days in advance. The buffet was almost the same every night but with a different theme. They throw a pineaple on the same chicken and call it Hawian. There was no beach and a trip to the Sunset Lagoon proved difficult to return. At 4 pm it shut down till 7 which made us have to find our own way back. To charge 100% of the all inclusive rate for 60% service.

I spent a week at the Royal Sunset ( on the beach) in Cancun April 15-23, 2006. The lobby is unimpressive and small. There is lots of timeshare pitching but if you make it clear you are not interested, they do leave you alone. Our 1 br was very spacious and nicely decorated, although things like bathroom caulking were a bit dated. We did find a few bugs(tub and dresser). Our room was on the 1st floor and outside the restaurant which meant live music(violin) to 11pm each night and the constant chattering of service carts and plates.Were awoken each morning to a large group of clapping people at 7-7:30am.
The pool was nice but small for the number of people and would get dirty in the late afternoon. The beach has been restored and is very nice. They have yet to replace the beach side restaurants. With the exception of the poolside bartender, the staff was very friendly, although you always felt tips were expected and we did tip. The food and drinks were marginal. Pass on the all inclusive if you can at $82/person. Activities programs are light and not well organized. Exterior look of the hotel is very sterile and it sits on a narrow pice of land making it seem a little tight. Location is good.
The good news is the sister hotel, Royal Sunset Lagoon is a very nice setting and you enjoy priviledges there. We spent hotel time there. Only issue there is the slow service at the Snack Bar. They had nice dinners and shows outside on the beach along the lagoon.
