“Great New Addition to Cancun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013

This is a wonderful addition to Cancun and beautiful new Riu property. Located on the peninsula the Riu Palace Peninsula was designed so that every room has an ocean front view. The rooms are spacious and very well appointed and the housekeepers are amazing. The dining choices are wonderful and offer something for everyone. I would definitely recommend this to anyone going to Cancun.

I was last April in a business trip in Cancun and decided to experiment the newly open Riu Hotel Palace Peninsula in Cancun and have to admit that the hotel really exceeded my expectations.

The room was huge, about 14 meters long with a modern decoration and really enjoyed the Jacuzzi just a step from the King bed.

The room was clean and every day the minibar (included on your all included rate) was checked and refurnished. The view was delicious and as the pool bar is at relative distance from the main building, the sounds of the ‘’happy’’ guys at the pool bar did not disturb you at your room or at your balcony.

Reception was easy, efficient though as not warm as you expect when booking in an holiday resort.

The choice of restaurants is good, but for those who like the main buffet I must say that it was the most well organized dining room I’ve seen so far in all kind of resorts. You were not allowed to sit yourself and instead taken to a clean and already ready table. Immediately the servers were offering you a drink and when returning to the tables with your food drinks were waiting for you. Changing the plates was efficient and everything was running really smoothly. Good job !

All international drinks are in fact international drinks and not look alike as it sometimes happens in other resorts.

For a business person contact with the outside world is important the Wi-Fi internet system was running well with some pauses , expectable in most of the Latin American countries.

I strongly recommend this hotel for those who either in business or leisure are visiting Cancun.

We had a great time at this resort. The staff was very attentive and friendly. There are several beautiful pools with lots of chairs - we never had trouble finding a spot. The beach is very nice though a bit small for a resort this size. That said there was still plenty of space. They bring your drinks to you on the beach. The room has a modern look and was very clean and the bed had to be one of the most comfortable hotel beds I have ever slept in. The food a the buffet was delicious - the only problem was trying not to overeat. We did not eat in the specialty restaurants because we went out for dinner 2 of the 3 nights so I can't comment on them. Overall, they did just about everything right and we wanted for nothing. Would definitely go back.

Room Tip: We had a second floor room directly above the sports bar and the theater, so I was worried about noi...

This was not our first choice of hotel,we were supposed to be staying in Playcar but the hotel closed for a refurb,we were then sent to the palace maya then a week before we went we were told we had to go to another hotelso they chose the peninsula for us it was an upgrade although Cancun was not the area I wanted to go to I said ok as I was fed up by this time,on arriving we were picked up by taxi and was pleased we were out of the town, tea area is lovelythe hotel is very big but was not a problem as no where was packed was quiet surprised,if you don't like purple don't go here the rooms are beautiful as is the rest of the hotel, plenty of sunbeds no matter what time you out, staff are beautiful and hard working so tip them, food is also beautiful, would I go back yes I would

Let me start by saying that this resort is top notch. We stayed mid May through late May. First time at a Riu and I was not disappointed. We arrived a Saturday and the lobby was even more breathtaking than it looked in the pictures, true essence of modern, clean, and elegant. Upon check in (at 3) we were told about our upgrade and it couldn't have been better news we were bumped up to the 12th floor where the view was stunning. The food was good not great, does get a little repetitive but I'm a pretty picky eater. As a couple we found the resort had areas where we could find the romance and get away from the noise. The hammocks on the beach at night are phenomenal. Read reviews about the beach being a letdown, but found the short walk to the RIU Carribe next door fixed that. Drinks were great; found they were a little watered down but it was nothing the mini bar in the room couldn't fix ;). The room was very spacious and although the door to the next room was right outside OUR door, I rarely heard any noise through the walls/door. We've stayed at different locations in Cancun and this was our best experience so far. Worth every penny.

We stayed at the Riu Palace Peninsula in May 2013. The hotel itself was beautiful. The pictures on the web honestly do not do the hotel justice. The buffet food was good and the service was great in the dining and bar areas. When we arrived, I had asked for an upgrade to the Villas. I was willing to pay the difference but they upgraded us for free. We had a little issue with the rooms not being ready for hours and there was a miscommunication but after we worked that out, we got our room. The villas were absolutely gorgeous and had a personal Jacuzzi on every balcony. We had a bottom floor which was great because you walk out the sliding door past the Jacuzzi and right into the infinity pool which is private for anyone staying in the villas. The villas are right next to the large hotel with the regular rooms so you still feel like you are still part of the resort but have more privacy. You have the ability to join in on the activities in the pool bar and other pool areas if you want. The infinity pool at the villa area has a private bar tender so you don’t have to leave. The villas are also adult only.
The resort was beautiful and definitely calmer than the sister Riu resort next door. The great thing is that you have access to both locations so if you are looking for excitement; you can use the pool at the next hotel over. The restaurants were good but I leave you with this suggestion, make your reservations every day at 8AM or you will have to eat buffet. The first two nights you will have to eat the buffet (which is great) or Italian (did not go personally but heard it was not good). These two do not require reservations. We went to the Mexican (which was great) and the steakhouse ( which was OK). Friends of ours went to the private restaurants in the VIP Villa area and they said that the food was good but extremely small portions. The ONLY dinner times for reservation locations is 6:30 or 8:45PM. The best food was definitely the buffet.
The water was full of sea weed and rocks.
All in all, this was one of the better Riu resorts. I definitely prefer Dreams in Cancun over this location. The Riu was more commercial then Dreams Resort. The location was larger and felt more like a chain (which it is). Good resort, worth the money. The hotel was also extremely clean.

Room Tip: Ask to Ocean Front Villa

We were upgraded to The Riu Palace Peninsula from the Riu Caribe, right next door. That gave us access to all 4 Riu hotels in Cancun, instead of the original two we could use (we made it to 3 out of the 4, as we were only there for 5 days). For someone staying longer, 'that' is a great option to have! Anyway, the hotel, the room, the food, the view and the entertainment were awesome! We enjoyed the specialty restaurants and the buffet offered a lot of variety. The pools were nice, too, but we found ourselves next door at the Riu Caribe more often, as their outdoor pools and beach area just seemed much more appealing. But, it was great because we were 'allowed' to use their facility! And, it was a nice, short walk along the beach to get there. So, you can have different choices by staying at the Riu Palace Peninsula.(Whereas, if we had stayed at the Riu Caribe, we would have had to take a bus to the other resort if we wanted to 'change it up' and go elsewhere. We were glad we could walk back and forth between the two hotels). We didn't care for the pool bar at the Peninsula...it seemed unclean and we noticed a lot of the drinks were weak, but they give you so much to drink, that's probably a good thing. The grounds were maintained beautifully and the people working at the hotel were incredibly nice! We enjoyed the show they had every night as well. Can't really find fault with this hotel. It was a wonderful experience. Wish we had had more time!

Room Tip: Rooms higher up offer the best view of the property and the ocean...And, if one stays in the middle...
