“Worst value for you money stay away”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013 via mobile

Frequent Cancun visitor. All previvios experiences were to rave for and less expensive. This one I feel I got very little value for my money. Staying away from the Riu chain.

Room - Small - Uncomfortable - Smelled Bad
Service - The locals were great the European employees were rude and not hospitable
Entertainment - Not much to do
Food - Horrible - canned - assembly line style food Upscale restaurant was a little better. But they served cold, stale bread and cheap wine.
- Daycare was amazing, the young ladies there were very sweet and caring

Assembly line tourism prepaid Very little value in food, service and comfort.

Will not be going back to this chain again would not recommend to anyone.

My husband and I celebrated our 2nd anniversary at the Riu Palace Peninsula and are so satisfied with our decision to stay here. I rarely write reviews unless a place makes that much of an impact on me and this place certainly did!

Their hospitality from the moment we checked in till we boarded our transportation to leave was impeccable. The housekeeping staff was always en pointe and the bartenders were nothing but generous and quick to refill drinks. :) We stayed in the Villas, which allows access to the adults only pool. The restaurant for the villa guests is also great! This pool is money!! Fernando was amazing and always there when we needed him. The food is actually pretty good for an all inclusive resort.

The resort is located further down from Downtown Cancun but it was just a quick bus / cab ride and worth being away from all the craziness of downtown. We would definitely return back to stay here at this awesome resort! Thought it was great for couples but also saw lots of families and would return with my family one day.

Room Tip: Definitely stay in the villas if you can!

From the time we got there, right up to the very end, the wonderful staff at The RIU Palace Peninsula were as much a part of our vacation as were the sun and the sand. Diego, David, Javier, Rodolpho and everyone else do an amazing job keeping the place spotless, the guests happy and the whole operation running smoothly.

Our room was on the 14th floor and the views are spectacular from up there! If you're in the main building however, I believe that all rooms are ocean view. Our room had a spacious walk-in shower with two heads and a very convenient jacuzzi tub that helped us relax at the end of the day. The bed was quite comfortable, yet firm and housekeeping always found creative ways to make it up each day. We utilized room service twice, once at around 2:00 A.M. and another time about 11:00 P.M.-ish and service was very prompt and professional both times.

There were several restaurant choices, but for the most part, my wife and I stuck to the buffet which always had an ample selection to choose from. One night there was baked lobster tails, crab legs and even caviar as selections. For breakfast, be sure to peruse the outside serving areas too, as they usually had a medley of Mexican food.

The pools and beaches were another area where you could find variety. That whole situation where people go out crazy early to park towels on chairs to reserve them didn’t seem to be an issue here as there were always plenty of lounge chairs for everyone, and this was the third week of March. The swim-up pool bar was where the action was at most of the time, but if you wanted a more mellow experience you could choose from one of the quieter areas towards the infinity pool. The beaches offer the same type of diversity. There is the main larger beach area where most people seemed to congregate, and then there are the beaches off to the side where you could find your own little cove to kick back on. These smaller beaches tend to be less rocky too. The RIU staff provide daily activities around the pool area to get you moving. You could join in a yoga session, aerobics, watch a cooking demonstration or just choose to do nothing but soak up the sun and adult beverages if you’d rather.

I’ve got to close this review, but would like to end where I began, with the staff. They really make the resort a fine place to stay and deserve a lot of credit for a job well done.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms here are ocean view, but I'd ask for a higher room just to maximize the vi...

Very disappointed with the overall experience of our stay last week. Lets start with very poor
service at meals , next to impossible to get a reservation at one of the "nicer" restaurants as they
only take reservations for that day or the next and they are always full!!!! They serve two seatings
at each restaurant so instead of getting people through they serve everyone at the same time and
everyone waits for the next plate to come out. The food there was good and the service as well
but again in 7 days we had two meals like this!!! The norm is either the buffet for lunch and dinner or the Italian restaurant which only serves 4 or five dishes that all taste the same!!!!
We have stayed at oher Riu Palace resorts and this one SHOULDN'T BE CALLED A PALACE!!!
We found the towel situation at the pool RIDICULOUS as they will only give you a towel if you have a card given to you at the front desk when you check in. No card no towel. By the way this is the same card that keeps your electricity on in your room so if you take the card to the pool
your computer doesn't charge!!! WHO THOUGHT OF THIS??? Service at the buffets are horrible. You may get your first drink after finding a table that isn't dirty but after that good luck.
I know that tipping is included in these deals but we always tip for good service and the staff appreciates it but NOONE was tipping and I beleive this is because of the horrible service.
The location is nice and the beach is very small but nice. The pools are nice but when the
staff takes their two hour lunches the music goes off.... REALLY? Is there a law against having
music played at lunch time at the RIU's???????????????
The rooms are ok with a comtemporary flair as long as you like purple and lime green!!!
Staff at front desk were very rude and when we tried to get a scale to check our bags there wasn't ONE in the whole hotel... Really 5 stars...??? Lets just say we won't be going back to this
one or recomending it to anyone for that matter. To the management of the hotel, you have a lot of work to do with your staff to get them ready for the "Palace treatment"!!!!!!
Good luck

Room Tip: Go to another resort!!!

My wife and I stayed at the Riu Palace Peninsula a few weeks ago....... all I have to say is what an overall amazing experience. We could ramble on about the amazing food, hospitality, great view and beach area and make this comment look like everyone else's. what i loved the most was the convenience of the location to participate in other activities along with the convenience of having travel representatives right there at the resort. We would definitely stagy here again.

Our family just came back from a 4 day stay at Riu Palace Peninsula.

Rooms - great, modern, sleek. There's a jacuzzi in each room which is cool. I don't know if it was just me and my brother but the rooms smelled pretty gross. Overall, the rooms were very nice!

Food - not much to complain about. However, we got sick of the same food after the 3rd day... good thing we only stayed for 4 days. There's mexican, italian, amazing deserts, and fruits are delicious.

Beach - the beach sucks. It's rocky but the nearby beaches are good so it's not that big of a deal. The many pools, bar, and outside resort area are great though.

Service - everyone here is happy and friendly! I can't say enough nice things about the staff that welcomed and helped us any opportunity they got.

The two strengths of this hotel are the quality of the hotel (physical appearances) and the staff.

Traveled to Cancun for vacation March 11-18th with two other guys. This resort was fantastic. From being greeted with an adult beverage at check in to check out I was never disappointed. Our group consisted of three single mid 20's guys looking for a week long party. The atmosphere of the resort is pretty laid back but lively at times. Unfortunately for us, it consisted of mostly couples of all ages and some families with older children. The bartenders were great and got to know us pretty well. The food was very good but make reservations for the restaurants at least a day ahead of time. The location if the hotel was fine and only a quick bus ride to where all the clubs are in town. Some people complain about the beach but if you walk next door to the Riu Caribe you won't be disappointed. That's also a good place to go at night if you're looking for a younger crowd to mingle with. Overall the trip was a blast and I wouldn't hesitate to return.
