“Excellent food, excellent service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

This restaurant is located inside the Royal Mayan (a members only resort) BUT El Conquistador is open to the public. We made a reservation by phone. When you arrive at the resort they will ask for room number to get in, just tell then you are going to the El Conquistador. Go up the steps and it is immediately on your right .. not hard to find. The service and food were nothing short of excellent. They bring complimentary cheese straws when you arrive. They also give you a tray of warm onion bread that is to die for. Had the Seafood Stuffed Portabello (130 pesos) and Lobster Bisque (85 pesos) for appetizers. The Portabello appetizer was wonderful! They brought lime sorbet before the main dish to clear your palate .. nice! Had the Coffee Crusted Snapper (260 pesos) for an entree .. a very nice size portion, beautiful presentation and delicious! Total for meal for 2 appetizers & 2 entrees was 730 pesos and it would rival any nice 4-5 stars restaurant .. we thought it was a great value! Guitar music started at 7pm and was a little bit loud for the size of the place. That was the only criticism we had for El Conquistador. We would highly recommend and we would go back again.

“Absolute Top Quality Dining at lower than expected prices!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

We stayed at the Royal Mayan for a week with our two boys, then 7 and 9, in 2010, and ate here twice. Our boys don't eat like kids (chicken nuggets, etc) but the food is high end and was concerned about what to get them. The maitre'd assured us the chef would make whatever we wanted for the boys. They love caeser salad so we got the "prepared at your table for two" and asked to have some grilled chicken added to it, to make a meal for the boys. I'm not a big grilled chicken person (boring) but this was divine tasting. I got the seafood and pasta medley which was incredible (boys stole part of mine AND ate their salads!). The second night we ate there we had to order TWO of the Caeser salad "for two" orders so my hubby and i could get some! the service was amazing to match the food.

In 2012 my hubby and I came back to Royal Mayan alone for 20th anniversary trip. Ate here 3 times in the week! Again, maitre'd and staff is AMAZING, food fabulous (tried different meals each night), and really good prices for this quality ($70-90 total with tip with appetizer or salad with dinner entree each, 1 wine for hubby, non-alcoholic for me). Even had live music nightly (guitar). We are discriminating eaters, have eaten at many great restaurants in Philly area and annual international vacations, and usu find ourselves saying it was good or really good, but rarely great. this place is AWESOME.

“We saved the best for last!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012 via mobile

This past week, we vacationed with my brother and sister-in-law @ The Royal Islander. Upon their advice, we waited 'til
Friday night to experience The El Conquistador at the Royal Mayan Resort. The food was outstanding with some dishes prepared for you right at the table. Barbara,
my sister-in-law had grouper rolled and prepared in Coffee. My wife and her brother had The El Conquistador Shrimp and I had the Shrimp Primavera. All were cooked to
the point and beautifully presented!

One word to the wise, save room for their exquisite desserts. Go and enjoy!!

“Best Meal of the Week”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

We were doing All Inclusive at Royal Sands and El Conquistador was one of the places we could eat. This was the best meal we had all week. Presentation was flewless , even the salads were a work of art. Baked French onion soup and Shrimp coctail were the best. We had to order fish because All of the steaks and some other top end items were not on the All Inclusive plan. Everyone was very understanding and helpful. This was the 1st week of A I and there are some issues to be worked out. Everything we ordered was 1st Class ....all the way.

We had a wonderful dinner last night at the El Conquistador restaurant located in the Royal Mayan!! There were 7of us and what can we say?? Everything was fabulous !! From the ambiance, the wait staff were superb, and the food was the absolute best! We had the seafood stuffed Mushroom, cream of broccoli soup, shrimp primavera, pork medallions, lobster bisque, coffee encrusted fish and more. It was the best!! No one had anything that was not fabulous!! They also had live guitar music and he was so talented! You could listen to him all evening. I can not say enough about this restaurant!!
