“A wonderful visit to Moon Palace!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

My husband, friends and I traveled to the Moon Palace in the 2 bedroom golf villas on Jan. 19 to the 26th. The golf villas were surrounded by the 27 hole golf courses and are about 1/2 mile from the rest of the resort. We enjoyed 2 bedrooms both with bathrooms, TV's, and two person hot tubs, an joining living room area and a outside sitting area. The golf club has, an amazing spa, a pool, a small restaurant/bar area and a Italian restaurant which is close by to the golf villas. We were also given a golf carts to get where ever we wanted to go which was fantastic and fun! The rest of the resort is in 3 sections Sunrise, Nizuc, and Grand which are all beach front. Every section has different restaurants and buffets also. Our favorite was MoMo a hibachi and the Brazilian to dine at, but we managed to try all of the many restaurants.
The staff was outstanding, always smiling and helpful. So many great employees at one resort, it was a great experience.
I really need to thank Isabel from the spa for transporting me to a new and wonderful place with a seaweed wrap, massage and facial! She is a fantastic massage therapists!
We enjoyed the Grand section to relax by the pool, it seemed the quietest, but all sections had somethings to do and places to relax.
Thank-you for a great trip Moon Palace, we will return one day!

Room Tip: Grand section is the newest and most updated!

We recently returned from a 3 day stay at the Moon Palace. It was lovely! It's an enormous place, beautifully maintained from top to bottom. Our room was very nice, quite roomy and comfortable. High quality toiletries in the bathroom and a nicely stocked minibar. There were many restaurant options and the food was above average for these all inclusive types of resorts. The pools are beautiful and the service charming.

Fantastic huge resort with loads to do. High quality resort with many restaurants and tons of activities than can be accessed with their great value Resort Credit programme. The best thing about this place is its amazing staff. Their personnel are well trained and very helpful and courteous. The 'flow rider' and on-site dolphins are a wonderful addition and the upgrades to the resort are wonderful. I fully recommend this resort and noticed visitors from many places including South America and Europe.

Room Tip: Sunrise section is better for families and lively. Nizuc section is central with easy access to eve...

We vacationed at Moon Palace, Sunrise section from Jan. 16th to 23rd, 2013. This was our fourth year vacationing there and this was our best trip yet!! We travelled with friends, our party was 4 adults and 4 children ages 17, 13. and two 11 year olds. I must say beyond the great service and food all around, the activities crew was the best!! Marco, Danny, Jose Luis, Caesar, Santiago and Ivan WERE THE BEST!!!! Whether it was hanging by the pool getting us involved in the guessing games, water vollyball or activity of the day, we had no problem joining in! We particularly enjoyed the mornings playing foot tennis (love the new permanent foot tennis court!) and the highlight of the afternoons was taking these guys on in beach soccer!. These guys can play some AWESOME beach soccer! These guys also worked so hard at night....they entertained and kept the crowd lively during the evening shows. At times I never laughed so hard! We will miss them!
We loved all the new additions. The Flowrider was exciting for all, some mastered it and others walked away laughing in defeat..., the new Dolphin Discovery was great to have on site as this use to be a full day excursion, but now can be done in an hour (and with resort credits)...loved the Dolphins! The adults loved the new Sky Lounge and the teens and 11 year olds (ok ...and the adults) loved the new Teen lounge.
Dining highlights included the new tappanyaki/hibachi at MOMO restaurant, it was a fun, family dining experience, the new outdoor grill /bar area near Flowrider, (we no longer had to change out of our swimsuits and go inside for lunch) and our new favorite, the Brazillian restaurant "Arrecifes" over at Nizuc. The beef was delicious and we cannot say enough about our waiter Juan Carlos, he was exceptional. We went back the next night and requested him again. He made sure the beef was cooked to our liking and was very attentive all around. He made the best Flaming Mayan coffees EVER!! What a show! When he asked if we had tried a Mexican coffee and we said "No", he made us those as well!! We also need to mention Francisco, our waiter over at the Carribean restaurant in Moon Grand, he went above and beyond as well.
The pool bar staff was tremendous, we never went without a drink in our hand be it a water, soda or a cocktail! Great service there as well.
All just sheer ....Paradise....perfect bliss for the soul....

My family of four (ages 20, 22, and parents [50s]) went from January 11th through the 18th and stayed in Sunrise. It was a great week--the service was over-the-top excellent, the weather was more-or-less beautiful, and the environment was friendly.
The entertainment staff (Diana, Dany, Jose, Oscar, Antonio, and a few more) were always smiling, dancing, and encouraging others to join them in the festivities. We played fut tennis, water polo, water volleyball, beach soccer, and beach volleyball.
In our week there, we managed to try over half of the restaurants available, from Bugambilias to Los Tacos (all the way over in Moon Grand). They were all delicious. Our personal favorites were Arrecifes (the Brazilian steakhouse) and La Trattoria (fancy Italian). Arrecifes is just like Fogo de Chao (in downtown Minneapolis) where they bring you different kinds of meat until turn them away. La Trattoria is all the way out in their golf course club house but well worth the trip! We had a fantastic waiter named Gonzalo who was constantly ready to take our plates but never hovered or felt intrusive. He was funny, bright, had great english, and more than helpful. Because we were there on a quieter week, all of the restaurants had a lower work load and the waiters tend to our every need--even trying to carry our plates of food for us (at the buffets).
They also had gotten an enormous wave-generator called the Flowrider in November that was an absolute blast. You can surf on the wave or boogie board (I only surfed), and as easy as Miguel and Pedro make it look, I spent most of my time wiping out with the other guests over and over. Everybody is just laughing because once you try it, you quickly learn why everybody looks so foolish on it. Miguel is always up for helping new people try to learn, plus he is very encouraging and friendly!
Final notes:
-knowing Spanish can be extremely helpful (and humorous if no one else in your party does) because you can occasionally run into workers who don't speak English well
-carry a lot of bills on you because it is customary to give tips

Swapped over to the Grand using our hotel credits after 4 days, I feel my review would be very different if this had not been possible. The nizcu rooms are old and tired with a huge spa bath taking over most of the room, however the rooms at the Grand are beautiful, spacious, modern, clean with outdoors space that is perfect for families with small children. Food is good, plentiful, with lots of choice and staff friendly. Would go back in a heartbeat but ONLY to the Grand.

Room Tip: Book the Grand or use your resort credit to upgrade, if reception says No then speak to the lobby st...

We've been Palace Resort members for years. Recently our stays have been at the Beach Palace because we love the room views of the beautiful water and waves, fantastic staff, and general location. This year, our friends who regularly travel with us to the Beach brought their children and in-laws, thus the 8 of us opted for a larger resort, with more options for kids and family. Moon clearly offers more.

We initially booked into the Moon Grand. The staff and particularly the rooms were excellent, but we did not like being so far from - the other end so to speak. Over two miles from one end to the other. And, note: There is no doubt, Moon Grand rooms are much larger, more luxurious, and have great balconies. But most have absolutely NO view. So if you don't care about a view, the Grand is nice. However, we wanted to be more central and to have a view. Moon Grand front desk manager Olivia was our first hero. Olivia went out of her way to provide us "other room options." Olivia blocked a room the next day - and arranged transportation to check the rooms she blocked. Thanks to Olivia, we were able to move to the Nizuc area to an ocean front room, centrally located.

While Nizuc rooms are older (part of the original Moon we initially bought at), they are very nice and well maintained. Plus, we were able to get three direct ocean front rooms, and close to the Nizuc pools. We were extremely happy with the change and accepting of the smaller room. But note - for our friends with their two kids these rooms are tight on space. (With four, the reason the Grand might be a better option.)

Unfortunately, our weather was not good, but with friends, family, a great Resort staff, we enjoyed our stay. The resort staffs' friendliness, good service, and fantastic food helped survive the bad weather. We did observe however, that for the one day we spent at the Sunrise, the service was not a good or as prompt. But back at the Nizuc, service was fantastic.

First - Adalberto , our pool waiter was bringing us drinks - including pop and water, as soon as our glasses approached empty. In addition, Adalberto made grasshoppers for the kids and my wife, a fun gift.

Each evening before dinner - we met in the Nizuc lobby bar. Here Lucas (the bartender) and Karina (waitress) provided excellent service. Again, anything we wanted they prepared for us. And, for the kids, chips and popcorn were waiting. Each night we were greeted with a hug and/or shake of the hand. These two made all of us feel special. Note - the Mindreader guy was unbelievable. We were amazed with his tricks!!!

Dinners were fantastic. We did not have one bad meal. Service and food was impeccable. Most agreed the Italian at the golf course was the best (slow, multiple servings), but our other meals were not far behind. The Brazilian with fantastic, we had fun at the Sunrise Japanese restaurant, Mexican at the Nizuc was fantastic, as was service. The waitstaff was great.

We spent a couple nights at the Sky Bar - adults only. Very nice. Ceasar provided great service. Ceasar went out of his way to make each of us special drinks - matching the color of our shirts, or providing great suggestions.

We typically get a small morning breakfast from room service before working out. Each day the service was timely and great. And, according to the other couples, the room service was always timely and good.

Most of the pools were pretty cool/cold; except for one heated pool at the Nizuc. Maybe the rain and clouds contributed to the cold pools, but because with the temperature, we did not use the swim up bars and by observation - neither did many other folks. But if you are a brave grasshopper, the water can be handled.

Overall, excellent week. the $1500 came in handy, my friends kids were able to swim with the dolphins, we were able to use Spa services, we golfed and avoided the Crocs.

Upon Departure, Mario (bell boy/bell captain) was a blessing in disguise. Somehow, the transfer group left us. They said we were no shows at the Moon Grand (where they dropped us). However, when I reconfirmed the trip back we were staying in the Nizuc, my room number was from the Nizuc, yet no one seemed to recognize we switched rooms. Mario took time to address our needs. Two other front entrance people told us to wait. Well, after 20 minutes, we needed action. Mario made some calls, and eventually the hotel paid our taxi.

Back in Wisconsin to freezing rain and snow - whew. I'd rather enjoy the rain in Cancun.

Room Tip: Ask. The resort is huge. Many rooms do not have an ocean view. So rooms with good views are limit...
