My husband and I planned a long weekend at Moon Palace in Cancun. I've never been to any of the Palace Resorts and have always heard good things. So had a chance and some things going on in our life so a trip away was welcoming and needed.
The flight was pleasant enough. Customs - quick and easy. Of course the vultures get you on the way out to your transportation but we avoided them easily - (just keep walking!!! :-)
It was about a 20 min ride to the hotel. Upon arrival we were given a welcome drink and escorted directly to the front desk. The lobby was gorgeous (Nizuc) and the staff very welcoming and inviting.
Our room was on the 3rd floor. We took the elevator initially but found we preferred to walk and take the stairs. In fact we walked EVERYWHERE. There were golf carts with drivers who will take you where you needed to go, but we liked to walk. Figured we should work off all the drinks and food :-)
Our room was fantastic. A 2 person jacuzzi tub, king bed, incredible view - we were blessed. We met a woman who complained about the jacuzzi. She said it took up too much room - ha! Who cares!!?? The room is HUGE even with the jacuzzi! Stocked mini bar with drinks, soda, water. We didnt have munchies or food but I think that's another room category.
Food was great. Meat and fish were cooked in front of you at the outdoor buffet stations so you know its fresh. Breakfast at Mangler's has an omelet station, waffle station and typical buffet items which changed every morning we were there. If I can make one dinner suggestion, you HAVE to go to one of the restaurants at the golf course. Reservations are needed but was no problem. One is La Trattoria, Italian food and the other was Asian food (forget the name). We went to La Trattoria. OMG is all I can say. The service was A-1. The meal was even better. I rolled out the front door - it was sooo good!!! I have no complaints of the food at all. Sure some things are made differently than we do here in the US but I was in another country. Can't expect everything to be the same.
During our stay we walked the entire property. Its HUGE giving you a selection of so many pools, bars, restaurants to choose from!!! But such a nice walk. There is a lot of construction going on at the Sunrise section of the hotel. It didnt affect us at all but I can see how some would be annoyed if that's the section they are staying. If you are traveling soon and this is where you are checked into, I would simply tell the front desk no and to move you - the hotel was very accommodating to other guests I talked to and have done the same. And even if your room can't be moved, when you are outdoors, you have so many other pool options to chose from - dont let it affect your stay.
On Sunday (right before hurricane Sandy) our flight back to Philadelphia was cancelled for that Monday. We needed to stay 2 extra days (BUMMER :-). The hotel happily worked with us and extended our stay without having to move our room and worked with us on the rate. THANK YOU! And it actually worked out for my husband who was able to get in a round of golf at your golf course. He said the course was incredible. He didnt bring clubs but your staff accommodated him and he had a wonderful time. He met another gentlmen at the course and played together and had a blast - cigars and drinks during the playing. I'm not a golfer so will take this as a positive!!
I will say, however, besides the lovely accommodations and immense property, the service is the main reason we WILL come back. The staff remembers you by name and you never feel like a number. In the mornings, we were assisted by the best waiters in the Mangler restaurant for breakfast. I have to give major kudos to Rafael Rodriquez, Maredonto Sulub, and Miguel Nunez. Every morning they were waiting for us and treated us like a king and queen. Simply terrific!
The rest of the time it was the bar staff at the various bars we walked to. In the sunrise section, at the Bar Columpios, THANK you to Jose, Luis, and Jaoquin. Great service and people to talk to (thanks again Jaoqin for having me download that talking cat app on my IPAD! :-) LOL. And the swings at that bar instead of regular bar stools or chairs - how FUN!!! Trust me I tried to knock my husband off his all the time - never succeeded :-(
Another thanks goes to Carlos and Erik at the Pelicanos at the Nizuc pool. Great service from both. A special thanks to Carlos. When he was serving if there was something I needed or maybe I didnt like the food options, he left and brought me something else. I never had to walk away. He also went out of his way to set up a private dinner for us the night before we were to leave. A nice surprise and out in the moonlight - just romantic and inviting. Fantastic! Carlos was off that evening wo we were assisted and served by Angel, Valentin, Jesus, Aorian at the Delfines Nizuc pool bar served us that evening. We even had a show with a coffee drink we ordered - liquor, fire, amazing!!! Thank you gentelmen!
And finally a thank you to Rigoberto (Rigo) at the Nizuc Lobby Bar. What a cutie!! So nice and friendly and we'd just sit and talk when the bar was quiet. And Kenny at the Nizuc pool bar - who greeted us everymorning with a Miami Vice in hand!!! I felt like I've known them both forever!!
Over all, thank you again Moon Palace for a special vacation. Your property is warm and inviting - regardless of the construction - we just avoided that area. (And if people complain about that - boo hoo on them because they can easily walk to the other areas of the hotel). Your staff is incredible and you are very lucky to have the staff I mentioned on your team along with everyone else. I will be back and recommend your hotel to everyone I can.
