“Awesome place to stay, rest and play”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2013

Very well kept property in the beach of Cancun. Rooms were very clean. Beds were a little bit soft for me, but that is personal preference. Wife and kids were delighted with the balcony, which is by the way, very well isolated by a thick window in case you want to leave the noises outside. Otherwise you can leave it open and hear the ocean come and go. The beach is lighted up during the night, and as far as I could see no other property do that. That is specially good if you come in late after a full day of activities at one of the theme parks in the area and want to have take a rest there.

Breakfast Buffet served in the Capilla Argentina restaurant is gorgeous, they offer a wide variety of fruit, cereals, mexican, american, and oriental-type food. You can also order special fruit juices. Just make sure that your room rate includes it as it may be quite expensive ~US$50/couple

Pool is crystal-clear and HUGE!. However it may be deep for little children, not a problem if they know how to swim of course. Bar is right in the pool, very well served; In summary, extremely courteous personnel everywhere will get you what you need.

Room Tip: Had reserved a "resort-view" room, they offered an upgrade to a "ocean-view" roo...

I have to say off the bat, I would never usually stay in a las vagas style hotel like this, but we were out of time, and needed a short stay before a flight to mexico city.
Having said that, the hotel, built in the late 90s I think, is a sprawling over airconditioned wasteland of concrete and fake marble. I have no idea what the carbon foot print of this hotel is, but it must be horrifying. The only real plus here was the buffet breakfast, which was included with the room. Otherwise we felt the hotel mentality with customers was trap them, and get as much money out of them as possible. Staff over worked for tips, everything was very expensive, and all activities outside the hotel were exorbitant.
We ate two dinners. One was at La Capilla Steak House, which was actually very good. The second night we walked over to Gustinos an italian restaurant at JW Marriot next door. This was both horrible, and expensive. We got a few drinks, two very average pastas and salad and it came to $110 US! We could have made better pasta at home! It seemed the policy was to serve food and drinks as slowly as possible, so whilst I asked for a wine list as soon as I arrived, the menu didn't get to our table for about 10 minutes, and the drink 15 minutes after that!! It was by far the worst meal we have had in our time in mexico.

We appreciate your concern about the environment, as our company also holds an extensive program to reduce the impact in our environment, which includes energy and water saving, the preservation of the local fauna and our successful Turtle Protection Program. We have shared your comments to our Gustino Italian Restaurant to follow up in the service details that you mentioned. Thank you for your feedback.

This place looks amazing at night... Come daylight it needs a lot of maintence. Our room has a nice view but is very small.. So called free wifi in lobby is a joke! We had to purchase wifi so we could keep up with the outside world... 15.00 US dollars is a lil extreme ... So staff is somewhat friendly but most just don't care! Our next trip to Cancun we will be staying elsewhere and as other post mentioned the inside store is extremely over priced...

Overall I would rate this hotel a 4.5 out of 5. Great property, centrally located in the middle of the Hotel zone in Cancun. I was at this property back in 2000 and its still one of the better ones in Cancun. Well maintained with a great pool area a few feet from the beautiful Cancun beach. Service is top quality or what you normally expect from a Marriott hotel. Plenty of umbrellas for shade and a no fuzz pool towel policy. Beautiful pool, the rooms are nice, clean and comfortable with excellent mattresses. Food & service at Mikado restaurant was first class. The only reason I did not give this Hotel a 5 is the food and drink prices. A can of Coca cola at the pool was $5. A bit much even for Cancun. If you travel with kids like us and stay for 8 days it can get expensive. Best recommendation, go to the Wal-Mart in the town of Cancun buy a foam ice chest (ice machines are located on every floor), stock up on milk, cereal, juice, fruits and yogurts and your breakfast is covered for the week. Also stock up on sodas beer or your favorite spirit. The Wal-Mart in town is great and the prices are very reasonable. There's an OXXO minimarket across the street, as well as a McDonald's and a Papa John's Pizza.

Room Tip: Third floor has bigger balconies.

The room was average, price could of been a lot lower for the quality of the sheets they provided (our sheets where ripped on both ends). The front desk service was horrible but service from all other departments (housekeeping, maintenance, spa) was great. Although there where things that we disliked, like the ones mentioned above we enjoyed our stay.
The best experience during our trip was when we saw a sea turtle at night laying eggs right in front of the Resort at the beach (while my boyfriend was proposing!).

Nice hotel and clean room. One of the elevators was out of service but other than that it was a good stay!
My husband told them we were celebrating a special anniversary and they surprised us with rose petals in the room on the first night!

Overall I like this place.

Things I liked:
Nice warm pool, beautiful ocean proximity experience, snacks and drinks by ocean and pool, Friendly hotel staff, nearby thrifty car rental, nice bed and room view of ocean, cool and convenient gym, nearby bus stop, beautiful building

Disliked:
Highly expensive for common things like water, coffee[5 $] etc. Internet is 15$ per day, only one working elevator that is slow and hot inside, poor TV and cable quality inside the room, super over priced restaurants inside the hotel[30$ per person], 30 minutes drive to town

Room Tip: We stayed on 4th floor and it was nice.
