We took our fourth trip to Cancun in April. It was our third year in a row and second year in a row with our teenage daughters.
We used Cancun Limo for our transportation from the airport and they were superb. Best experience yet. I recommend them for sure. We grabbed a ride back to the airport from the hotel limo from the JW. More than adequate.
Antonio at the hotel front desk arranged for us to have the same adjoining rooms as last year. It took some doing (I had requested it before arriving but I guess not to the right person) but he took the time to move things around and got it done. That set the tone for everything going right throughout our stay.
The service was excellent throughout the hotel and restaurants. We especially enjoyed Victorio at the pool. He has worked at the the Casa Magna for twenty years and is a great example of someone who loves their job and it shows!
We did not choose the all inclusive option. I keep receipts and have looked at it every different way. We spend less by not doing it. If someone is going to have a lot of drinks it probably saves money but for us it doesn't work. We are not big drinkers.
We got our breakfast in the hotel shop and ate at all the hotel restaurants except Champions during our stay. All of them suited us just fine. Our teenagers especially liked Mikados and La Capilla. We ate at both twice during our stay.
The beach was fantastic. Windy like usual but we don't choose to swim in the ocean. We witnessed a rescue in front of the hotel. The lifeguard was amazing. People just don't pay enough attention to them. Red flag means danger!
The pool had lots of kids this year but it was fine. It is a family hotel. If you want to avoid that book the JW next door. They have an adults only pool. We met several people who were staying at the JW but found the pool scene TOO quiet and came over to ours for the fun. Ironically they don't allow Casa Magna guests to use the JW pools.
Only complaint about the pool is the hot tub. No restriction on age to use it. There were kids in there with floaties and diapers on. You just can't rely on parents to stop their kids from ruining other peoples experience. They should not allow anyone under 16 in the hot tub period.
We took two trips to the La Isla Mall to satisfy our teenagers need to shop and look around. Good place to go if you are bored. Nice mall, safe with lots of people. They have stuff you can find in any U.S. mall. Our kids got henna tattoos for less than $10 each. Cost us $9 each way for a taxi. Buses are cheap but not something we like. They drop you off and then you have to cross the main drag which is a challenge and somewhat dangerous.
Overall another great trip. The hotel facilities are clean and well kept. The hotel is distintive and unique. The staff friendly and helpful. It is a safe place for you and your family. We will go back next year.
