“Another great family vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2011

We took our fourth trip to Cancun in April. It was our third year in a row and second year in a row with our teenage daughters.
We used Cancun Limo for our transportation from the airport and they were superb. Best experience yet. I recommend them for sure. We grabbed a ride back to the airport from the hotel limo from the JW. More than adequate.
Antonio at the hotel front desk arranged for us to have the same adjoining rooms as last year. It took some doing (I had requested it before arriving but I guess not to the right person) but he took the time to move things around and got it done. That set the tone for everything going right throughout our stay.
The service was excellent throughout the hotel and restaurants. We especially enjoyed Victorio at the pool. He has worked at the the Casa Magna for twenty years and is a great example of someone who loves their job and it shows!
We did not choose the all inclusive option. I keep receipts and have looked at it every different way. We spend less by not doing it. If someone is going to have a lot of drinks it probably saves money but for us it doesn't work. We are not big drinkers.
We got our breakfast in the hotel shop and ate at all the hotel restaurants except Champions during our stay. All of them suited us just fine. Our teenagers especially liked Mikados and La Capilla. We ate at both twice during our stay.
The beach was fantastic. Windy like usual but we don't choose to swim in the ocean. We witnessed a rescue in front of the hotel. The lifeguard was amazing. People just don't pay enough attention to them. Red flag means danger!
The pool had lots of kids this year but it was fine. It is a family hotel. If you want to avoid that book the JW next door. They have an adults only pool. We met several people who were staying at the JW but found the pool scene TOO quiet and came over to ours for the fun. Ironically they don't allow Casa Magna guests to use the JW pools.
Only complaint about the pool is the hot tub. No restriction on age to use it. There were kids in there with floaties and diapers on. You just can't rely on parents to stop their kids from ruining other peoples experience. They should not allow anyone under 16 in the hot tub period.
We took two trips to the La Isla Mall to satisfy our teenagers need to shop and look around. Good place to go if you are bored. Nice mall, safe with lots of people. They have stuff you can find in any U.S. mall. Our kids got henna tattoos for less than $10 each. Cost us $9 each way for a taxi. Buses are cheap but not something we like. They drop you off and then you have to cross the main drag which is a challenge and somewhat dangerous.
Overall another great trip. The hotel facilities are clean and well kept. The hotel is distintive and unique. The staff friendly and helpful. It is a safe place for you and your family. We will go back next year.

My wife and I recently stayed here for four days using Marriott points and added on the all inclusive meal package.

I just want to highlight our experiences with some of the areas of concerns that other posters have expressed on Check-In, Safety, Service and Value.

Check-In - We arrived after 4 PM and had no issues with check-in. In fact, they had upgraded us to a Caribbean Suite which was ocean facing with a wrap around balcony. The room was absolutely beautiful.

Safety - It appears the media markets have blown this way out of proportion. We rode the city bus all week at all hours of the day and never once felt unsafe. The bus is a good inexpensive way to get around and only cost 8.50 pesos per person.

Service - We ate at every restaurant the hotel had to offer and every one of them knew me by name as soon as I walked in and were very attentative. The pool staff was limited but still very friendly and prompt. The Aregentina Steak house was closed for renovation a couple of days we were there but the staff addressed the issue and allowed us to use the restaurants at the JW Marriott next door. Again, these guys went above and beyond on everything

Value - I highly recommend the all-inclusive. Tips are included and you are never pressured to tip more. We travel frequently and never have done an all inclusive because we like to try and eat local restaurants and tour the towns we are visiting however my opinion may have changed after this trip. Drinks and Food were extremely high quality for an all inclusive. Room Service was also included as part of the all-inclusive.

We also did a catamaran tour to Isla Majerus and visited one of the eco parks ( I dont remember the name but it was like Xe-Ha or something like that :o) ) We did not book through the hotel. We found the same tours from a street vendor at Market 28 for $20-30 pp cheaper. These street vendors do not require timeshare presentations. They can offer discounted tours because they work direct for the vendor and dont have to pay for real estate in the hotels. Ask for Rubi if you visit Market 28 and she will hook you up.

Market 28 is also the cheapest place we found for souvenirs as well and can be reached by the city bus; about 30-40 min ride from the hotel.

Hope this review helps, I am already planning a repeat visit back to the Casa Magna

The whole stay was incredible from start to finish.

SERVICE
We were greeted with airport transportation that was far more luxurious than what we expected with a packaged holiday.

Service was great, staff were friendly, security responded promptly to neighbours who were partying loudly late into the night and housekeeping was impeccable.

AMBIENCE
The room was lavish, flat screen TVs, kind sized bed, sofa bed, coffee table, good washroom with a bathtub, plenty of closet space, before we knew it, we were unpacked and felt completely at home. The view was simply incredible, we overlooked the pool and the ocean. We took a look at the JW Marriott next door, and Casa Magna Marriott appeared far more beautiful and opulent.

The lobby also features a very nice piano bar with a view to the pool and the ocean.

THE BEACH
The beach was perfect, plenty of lounge chairs, soft white sand, turquoise blue water, wave runners available for rent, beach volleyball court and the beach was lit up at night.

LOCATION
When you stay at the Marriot, you are far enough from the centre to avoid the noise of party goers and enjoy a tranquil holiday yet you are close enough to the centre that you be there in a 15 minute bus ride.

Food and drinks can be pricey at the resort, but there are 3 mini markets across the street, a pizzeria and the world's worst McDonald's. It has the potential to be the best with its lagoon view and free WIFI, but with service times often running at 20 minutes, this certainly wasn't fast food, or good food, in fact, we even received a burned egg mcmuffin.

AMENITIES
WIFI at the resort will cost you $15 a day, but you can go to McDonald's and get free WIFI or go to the mall. The resort is only a 15 or 20 minute walk to the Luxury Avenue mall, or you can take the bus. The bus stop is right outside the resort.

The gym was state of the art, it had all my favourite equipment, plus the cardio machines had built in TV's and ipod docks. They also provided headphones at the entrance. Be sure to pack your gym shoes though, they do not allow you to work out in your flip flops.

Took the family of 4 to the Casa Magna with points on the all inclusive plan. You can find the deal on Marriotts site for 90k points (includes some other locations in the caribbean). This is about our 10th time to Cancun and our third at the Casa Magna. I will tell you that this is one of the finest (and best choices) on the strip. It is always well kept and VERY clean.

I read some complaints on the service. I can't imagine what drives these sorts of comments, unless the writers have their nose in the air. The staff, in every situation, was very personable and tuned in to making our stay a pleasurable one. The pool staff incuding everyone working around the pool and at the bars, were top notch and worked their cans off. This has been the case every time we have been there I have to say.

Resort itself is a calmer setting. There were many types of people and never did it get crazy, annoying or overbearing........at the pool or in the hotel.

All Inclusive - The way to go if you plan to hang at the pool. Resturants do have a more limited menu for the all inclusive, but we never found it to be an issue. Good choices of food, Japanese, Thia, American and such..........actually, we enjoyed them all especially the Japanese steak house.

Rooms - Being Platinum Marriott, we were "upgraded" to a premium ocean view, although not the suite I had hoped for. But, I bet 75% or more of the rooms have a pretty good ocean view based on how it is built. Rooms are nice and clean and average in size. You will find them pleasing.

Beach - Very nice beach area. Hotel has resturant down on beach level and staff up and down the beach to serve you.

Just an FYI - We are members of Palace Resorts, which is one of the better "vacation Club" operators in Cancun. We stay there a lot as well. The Marriott is pretty equal and our choice when not using the Palace Resorts (like when we use points)

Book the Marriott, you will be very pleased !

I booked this room on Marriott.com and got a special rate that included buffet breakfast and 1 free night. Upon arrival I was offered an upgrade (extra $313 total for 4 nights) to a suite on 3rd floor that has a very large wrap around balcony. This room was impressive mainly beacuse of the view. The AC worked very well, although it was a bit noisy. Now I can list 4 or 5 "knit picky" things that may have been wrong with the room, but at $210/nt (incluiding bfast for 4) for a beachfront hotel it was really unbeatable. The best part was the hotel staff from houskeeping to the front desk, Everyone we encountered was so friendly, and professional. The pool staff is great and there was never a problem finding a lounge chair at the pool or beach. The hotel is far from town (about 15-20min by bus) and there is very limited dining options away from the hotel. Obviously eating at the property or next door at JW is very pricey. We ate at the sports bar our 1st night as we were not up to going into town. About $15 for a burger plate. Overall I would go back here beacuse of the staff, beach pool.

Room Tip: Get room 3094!!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2011

My husband and I stayed at the Casa Magna Marriott from April 10-17th with our two young children (1 yr & 2yr. old). This was my third trip to Cancun but our first time at the Marriott with the family. It was great. They gave us a room on the first floor by the pool which was very convenient with children, very easy to run back to the room if we forgot something or if the kids needed a nap. This was a very slow week for tourism in Cancun and we never had to wait for anything. The hotel looked like it was about half full. The staff were very helpful and knew our names by the third day.

The restaurants were very good and very pricey, but our kids always eat what we are eating so it wasn't too bad for us. We went to the breakfast buffet every morning and kids eat free so that wasn't bad either. If you have AAA you get a 20%off discount on all of your food and the spa, but you have to ask for it or they forget to give it to you. Drinks at the pool are about $9 each (beer is about $5) but we just walked across the street to the 7-eleven and bought a bottle of Captain Morgan and Coke and made rum and cokes all week, that's all we drink anyways. Also, I would walk to 7-eleven every other day to stock up on bottled water, snacks and juice because the store at the hotel is more than twice the amount you would pay normally.

It is only 85 pesos to ride the bus and the La Isla mall is only a couple of minutes away so we took the bus to the mall twice. Huge outdoor mall with an Aquarium and dolphins to take the kids to see. Great restaurants too, very inexpensive.

The only thing I didn't like was by the fourth day I noticed they don't really scrub the pool every day so the chemicals would build up along side the pool and it turned my bathing suit green. The last two days we went to the JW Marriott pool (the two hotels are connected) and stayed there all morning and had lunch by the pools. They say you can't use their pool but no one said anything to us and the JW Marriott pools were really clean.

All in all I would go back, but I might stay at the JW just because the pools were cleaner and that's where we spent most of our time.

Room Tip: We used priceline, paid $79 per night

The hotel is good. People buying an all inclusive deal should doublecheck. We bought vacation package from jetblue which clearly stated All -inclusive. I spent 3 days looking for this deal and bought the package thinking it was a good deal.Once we checked into the hotel we were told that only breakfast is included. Called Jetblue and they said thats what I have.
The room is neat. Pools/beach is clean.Breakfast was vaery good. There aren't many resturant choices nearby. There is a japanese/Thai restaurant inside the hotel.Food is average and very expensive.Opposite marriott there are a couple of seafood resturants which are good.
I would recommend you to visit Chichen Izza which is 300 miles away from Cancun. its one of the 7 wonders.
One has to be very cautious on the beach. The waves are rough and shouldn't go far. One fo my relatives recently got drowned while trying to save his son. Be careful.
Overall I am happy with the hotel .I suggest buying an all inclusive deal. Food inside the hotel is damn exp. One lunch sitting can cost 100$ for a family of 4.
