Description: We took the downtown Cancun bus, got off by the big grocery store, Chedraui, and cabbed to the restaurant for 25 pesos. It is bright and cheery and has an awesome mural on the wall across from the cooking area. The variety of meat fillings and combinations for tacos is amazing and everything was delicious and inexpensive. No more La Parilla for us!!

“Best Tacos in Cancun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2011

This place is the antidote to Habaneros! The food was delicious, they have a great section and we ate so much you could have rolled us out of there!
The Tacos al Pastor were outstanding! And we ordered way too much food for 2 people! The place was full of locals - which is the sign of a good Taqueria! The service was fast and the ambiance was authentic and a little kitschy!
The next time I'm back in Cancun, this is the first place I'm going for tacos!
YUMMY!

“THE BEST AUTHENTIC TACOS IN CANCUN!! DELICIOUS!! INEXPENSIVE!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2011

Thanks to Rafael, at the front desk in the Royal Cancun, we gave Tacos Rigo a try a week ago during our annual stay. We took the bus to the centro and got off by the big grocery store, Chedraui. We easily hailed a taxi and for the standard downtown fare of 25 pesos, were deposited outside the large, brightly lit, colorful dining area of Tacos Rigo. If you look at a map of the area, you will see that is right off the main drag of a street named Palanque. Rafael had called ahead and advised the main guy that three gringas were on their way, and we were welcomed warmly and allowed to choose our table. We sat next to the huge wall mural incorporating as many cartoon characters as you could imagine, along with the two rolled taco characters that comprise the restaurant's logo. The main menu is in Spanish, but there is an English translation on the back. Our greeter/host speaks some English and helped to describe some of the preparations. What this restaurant does that is different from any other place we have visited is offer combination plates of various meats, with frijoles, grilled onions, etc., and a big stack of tortillas, so that diners can make their own tacos. Another option is to select individual tacos that are served open face on little plates. One of us chose a preparation called "Regoleto (sp)" that featured a blend of meat, peppers, onions, and cheese for eating with tortillas. Meat options include chicken, beef, pork al pastor, and more. Two of us chose one of the combination plates designed for two-three people, for about 200 pesos, or 20 USD-pretty cheap for lots of good food. We didn't order mixed drinks, but stuck with beer-also pretty inexpensive. Oh-the waiter even brought us a free sample taco to try with one of the meats-who does that these days?

Anyway, the main hombre helped us hail a cab for the trip back to the bus stop outside Chedraui and we were on our way back to our resort, happily stuffed and pleased with ourselves for breaking out of our comfort zone and trying a place tourists don't know about and the locals obviously love. If you are squeamish about the bus ride, take a taxi all the way and you will still come out ahead of the game because of how reasonable the prices are at Tacos Rigo.

PS We returned to a previous favorite, La Parilla, and were so disappointed by the noisy, touristy mariachi band and the decline in the quality of the food that we vowed not to return. It will be Tacos Rigo for us from now on, for sure.
