“Average at Best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

We had a wonderful time at the resort, the staff was very friendly and helpful! We upgraded to a room with an ocean view. Which was nice, but it would have been much nicer to have an balcony. With the hotel fairly empty, I was suprised they did not even offer the upgrade. We paid extra for the room with a view. We were in a very quiet part of the hotel, which was nice - except for during part of the day when people were playing putt-putt (we were on the bottom floor) or when the workers were climbing up ladders do work! The room was okay. NOT a 4 star room! Not even close. The widows fogged up with humidity, and there was definitely a musty smell. We have been to other tropical/humid destinations and have not had this problem. Again, not a total mess, but average. The food was okay at best. The buffets were horrible, however the meals at Vento, Marco Polo, and another sit down for lunch were very good. Our bed was comfortable for us - they were hard, but we slept like babies! Watch out for the concierge(s) who will try their hardest to get you to come to their presentation. They were persistent, but just keep saying no - unless of course you are really interested. The pools (both property sites) are nice, the ocean is beautiful. Their area on the beach is not very well maintained. We give it a three because the ocean is beautiful!

I really enjoyed my time at this hotel. It is clean and quiet with good food and lovely decor. I love the Moroccan decor theme, the pool is quiet and clean; it is right on the lovely beach. The staff are so freindly and courteous and really aim to please. The little quiet romanitc courtyards everywhere are so charming.
The food is also great. you have the choice of three restaurants in this hotel, and the big themed buffet at the sister hotel next door. The 'bogavante' restaurant overlooking the beach serves amazing food, as does the a la carte 'veneto' restaurant in the lobby. I would expect to pay top dollar for the same quality food in London or NY. The free lobster dinner was also great. They try and revolve the menus as much as possible, with french, italian and even sushi on the menu! Drinks are great...amazing mojitos and they actually have a cocktail menu.
the snack bar is also actually really good with pizzas, burgers, hotdogs, nachos, fries, salads, chilli, ribs - a lot more than the usual slop you get at all inclusives!! the breakfast buffet at the restaurant by the pool was small but had great variety. hot coffee on tap all the time in the lobby and different services like flambe coffees and specialy shots at around 5pm in the lobby. the staff are all freindly, charming and really well dressed. the place is kept very clean and the maids do a fanatstic job, with a turndown service to boot; chocolates on the pillow and all!
we even travelled with a 4 year old and had no problems.
The place is quiet and i would say geared towards older people or couples, but it is pretty kid freindly too (as long as your kid isnt a monster...) next door at the Royal Solaris sister hotel, you can use their facilites and restaurants but dont bother; stay at the GR Caribe, becuase the solaris next door is horrible, loud dirty and had bad food (apart from the evening buffet, which has good food but an awful atmosphere).
The gym is ok...as good as they get over in Mexico with four treadmills, bikes, steppers, weights etc. staff try and organise daily activites but it is so quiet, people didnt really want to move from their sun loungers! (which was great).
We came in turtle season so every night at 8pm they let go 400 or so baby turtles into the sea; you can hold a few and get to learn about them - that was amazing.
I love the lobby-Open air lobbies are normal in countries like this and it would have been a shame if they close it off and air-conditioned it. I think if you want everything to be a closed, airconditioned box; you ought to stay in the US or something.
There are some things I would change...tiny things like upgrade the gym, maybe have a buffet lunch going at the GR caribe (as well as one next door). they are already doing upgrades right now, so I think it will be even better next year. Maybe invest in a few english speaking TV channels (only for the kids really). the beach isnt huge but is still lovely. of course mexican beaches all need a good clean, but that is mexico in general, not this hotel...oh yes and a shuttle service to the airport or to the mall would be good. Oh and the rooms dont have balconies, rather they have 'nooks' with couches and a table. We got ajoining rooms, which was great.
Lol if we got to rate the US airports though - my rating would be a solid 0/10 every time.

My husband and I stayed for our 2 yr anniversary in October and we were very pleased. We have stayed at 5 star all inclusives before and this met all of our expectations! Food was excellent and service was amazing! You didn't even have to think about needing another drink and Abigail was already there with one! Joe , heme , and Giovanni were awesome at keeping breakfast and lunch entertaining and Fernando and Alberto with over the top service for dinner. All staff were polite and appreciative!! Only complaint was not having a balcony but we weren't really in our room that much so we didn't miss it...def would recommend and will come back.

Here they treat their guests like king & queens! They know your nanes, they great you with a smile and do everything within their power to make your vacation the very best! I traded in my Palm Beach Resort and purchased here. That says it all!

Room Tip: This is truly a five star resort. I am a prudent rater. This is the first to get 5 stars from me.

We are Members with Solaris,a nd this was ur first time @ Caribe. Its beauitful and so peaceful. Geard at adults and quiet areas, we had such a relaxing time. Little Plazas all over the prperty, where you could sit and relax, the open air lobby is beautiful. The 2 resturants were amazing, th food and service were PERFECT! I was so happy witht his place! Very clean, and reminds me of old school Mexico. Service was supurb! Jose ( in the morning / service @ Cafe Solaris was AWESOME so friendly! ) The beach, pool, and Spa were also AMAZING! Love it! Thanks for another beauitful, relaxing vacation!

Do not listen or read the few bad reviews, I would think these are from people whom dont travel often! The place is simply amazing!

Had a nice time at GR Caribe for a mini-reunion with my husband's friends who all turned 40 this year. We were greeted promptly and were brought a refreshing drink while we were checking in. No, there isn't air conditioning in the lobby. If you have travelled to the Caribbean or Hawaii, etc. an open air concept isn't uncommon. Did you come to Cancun to be inside with the AC on? The room was decently appointed and a good size. We had no patio or balcony, I enjoyed the comfortable seating area. The pool area, though small was nice, but we spent most of our time on the beach under the palapas. We took advantage of the cocktail servers who were kind enough to trek down to get our drink orders. Yes, it is all inclusive but we did tip food and beverage staff when we felt we got great service. Breakfast buffet was ample and we loved the omelette station. Food by the pool didn't have healthy choices so some of us in our party didn't eat there. Ordered a special birthday cake to be delivered to our table at dinner one night, and the entire wait staff sang happy birthday to the guys. The two main restaurants were great. Always had attentive service and food, for the most part was decent (not 5 star, but we had no real complaints). It is all about expectations. You are in Mexico, it is a reasonably enough priced all inclusive, don't expect too much and you will be pleasantly surprised. Oh, yes, we can attest, the walls are thin. We heard more of our neighbors than we would have preferred. We did go to the pool and have some meals at the sister hotel next door. Loud music and more activities by the pool, more crowds, but nice to have the option. Preferred GR Caribe over Royal Solaris.

I stayed at this hotel in June for 5 nights (not by choice) and I can honestly say that it was one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at. The grounds at GR Caribe are nice enough and our room wasn't bad, we shared a 2 bedroom villa with another couple. We got the King bed which wasn't horrible, sadly the other couple got the room with the 2 double beds which were very uncomfortable (beds were hard as rocks). The room did not have a balcony, just a small window.

The main concern with this hotel is the food and beverage. It is by far the most disgusting food I have ever had at a hotel. It was an all-inclusive so we were expected to eat at the hotel. Let’s start with the breakfast. We tried the breakfast buffet one morning and we were grossed out. The items looked like they had been sitting there for days, very unappetizing. Fresh fruit didn’t look so fresh, cereal stale, not to mention the milk was NOT REAL. It was powdered milk mixed with water, one of the servers told us this b/c my nephew (who is 1) needed milk for his bottle. We ended up going to the store to buy milk for him. They also didn’t have cream for your coffee, just the fake milk, so we used the milk bought from the store. After this, we ordered breakfast in our room and it was better, but 3 star quality at best.

Lunch by the pool was also terrible. They don’t use real meat in their hamburgers; again, one of the servers told us this. They use something that is PINK after being cooked. I don’t understand how they can do this and who they think they are fooling, it clearly doesn’t look like a burger, nor does it taste like one. The only edible (just barely) thing they had were chicken nuggets and French fries.

Dinner – we went to the members dinners and those were not any better, food was mediocre, steak, fish, everything you got lacked flavor and didn’t seem fresh. We tried to eat outside of the hotel has much as possible, we didn’t care that we had already paid for the all-inclusive.

Drinks – all drinks were watered down, cheap alcohol was used, they didn’t have real fruit juice, no OJ, Mango juice, etc. Everything they had tasted like fruit punch. We ended up buying our own real alcohol and mixers from the store.

I am honestly shocked that this hotel has the rating that it does. I guess people don’t mind eating fake/gross food/drinks. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, nor would I ever come back. This place made our vacation stressful and we couldn’t wait to leave.

Room Tip: choose a different hotel, there are plenty of nice ones in Cancun, such as Le Blanc or Ritz Carlton
