“Extended vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

We had a great time, but found our rooms to be noisier than we like. Our villa was situated quite handy - - - close to the pool, front desk and restaurant, but the beach seemed difficult to get to. The setting is beautiful, although not quite as nice as the Royal Sands. The Tradewinds restaurant was great!!!!

This was a wonderful place to spend a vacation with the family. Very kid/teenager friendly and our 13 year old had the best time of his life. Staff are very friendly, and the maid service is excellent. They treat you like family, and the entire staff works to make you feel at home every minute of your stay. Wonderful place to spend your vacation.

Room Tip: We asked for a room with a view on higher floors. The penthouse on the top floors are wonderful for...

I have been staying at the royal Caribbean for 21 years and it is one of the finest resorts in the world! The property is always very well maintained and their staff is always professional but more importantly personal and friendly. They make such a difference no matter which of their restaurants you go to or what services you utilize. You will always leave with new wonderful memories!

Room Tip: The higher the level the better views you will receive.

This resort exceeded our expectations for a trade. Sometimes in the past when we had a specific date that we requested I felt just lucky to get a unit, this was not the case and we will definitely go back or request it again. It was clean, the staff was warm and not overly pushy to sell, and everyone had a smile on. The resort was large and the pools we wonderful and the aqua water was beautiful. The unit that was given to us was not the one that was listed on my confirmation form, that one was to be a ocean front unit, but it was ok. When you have an ocean front unit, all you will see is the beach, this resort is beautiful, and the pools, fountains, cabanas, with the water in the background was very pretty and the ambience was there. Maid service everyday except Sunday, she worked very hard, even washed all three sliding doors to the large balcony every day. Our unit was a renovated one, so it was not outdated, and they were replacing a few balcony railings and repairing stucco on other units, so in the middle of the day there was some noise, but we just went down to the beach and then all we heard was the waves....

The drinks were a bit expensive if you wanted to buy them at the bars, but with a happy hour somewhere that went from 3-7, it was easy to find two for one, or large sized drinks somewhere. the bell rang everyday at the swim up bar. We said, "ring it and the will come"...

We used the recommended Thomas Moore travel for the airport connections shuttle, as we had 5 girlfriends all arriving or leaving at 4 different times. A much less expensive option than a taxi...when they say, go outside the airport, they mean go outside the airport to pick up your bus/van. The hawkers, or commission driven pushy people were the worst I have ever seen in an airport, trying to get you to use their service, even though you had a different paid confirmation in your hand. We even had a guy say he was from Thomas Moore, had the blue pants, and yellow shirt, but not the logo patch, try to stear us over to a podium table to sell us what I don't know, maybe a tour, but it is hard to get out of the airport without being accosted, just keep walking!

The sleeping arrangements of the 2 bedroom was a bit of a surprise. When I looked at the layout of the rooms it was hard to tell what size the beds are. Ours was as follows, 1 bedroom a King, in the second bedroom, there were two almost fulls, bigger than a twin, but not a queen, it would be tight fit for two people to share that were not a couple...and in the shared living room there were two single murphy beds that came down out of the entertainment center. The picture on the website showed that as a double, not two, one on either side of the tv. So the twin was a bit narrow, perfect for children, but tough for an adult as it wasn't against a wall. My one girlfriend felt like if she rolled over she was going to fall off. Some units also have a sofa sleeper, but ours did not, I think that went with the rennovation.

We did not get a hard sell at all, but as this was a girls trip and we left our men at home maybe they didn't think we could make any money decisions which was great with us.

Room Tip: We liked being closer to the center of the resort, than in one of the perimeter, closer to restauran...

The Hotel was fine, very clean and friendly - we had a villa that slept 6, it was nice - althought out of all 6 of us women we forgot there were murphy beds in the living room ....

The highlight of the whole place is definelty the staff and the service. They are From the housekeepers to the wait staff to the travel staff to the grocery store - everyone was wonderful.

Mario at the swimup Bar and the inside bar and Jesus were our absolute favorite !

Have stayed at the Royal Resort chain too many times to count. Bewarned if you are trading or purchasing getaways through Interval that they will attempt to renege on specific units booked. I traded a week for a beach front unit at the Caribbean and upon check in was assigned probably the worst view unit in the whole joint. I tactfully protested and even brought out my laptop to show the specific unit I had traded for. They will attempt to tell you that their internal system is not synched with Interval and that may be, but if I trade for a specific unit, I want that unit. Otherwise I would have continued to look for another unit, possibly at another resort. In the end, it was resolved and they looked after their customer. That should be the takeaway from this review, that even though there are some issues with this chain, they have always been top notch in the area of customer service.

The units are everything you've come to expect. Clean, well maintained, with great housekeeping and concierge services. Concierge checked in with us upon arrival, and recognized me from past visits. He knew that I did not need him to explain everything about the resort and area so pretty much left us on our own. He checked with us midweek to see if we needed anything and did not try to give us the hard sell to attend a time share presentation.

The units themselves are showing a bit of wear, but nothing drastic. Some of the stucco and masonary work was showing cracks and some of the tile in the bathrooms need replacing. The A side had no hot water upon arrival but was quickly repaired. I'm sure the ocean front units are a hassle to upkeep as the salt water must wreck havoc on them. We did see about 6 units in the resort being completely upgraded during our stay, so I don't think you have to worry about the place getting rundown.

Pools, restaurants and service in the resort remain top notch.

The only thing that will ruin this chain is if they extend the All Inclusive aspect to all of their resorts. It will take away any of the advantages it holds over the cookie cutter, drink and eat till you puke, chair saving game, look at me I have $1500 to spare, beheamoths that clutter the landscape of the Mayan Riviera.

We got a deal from our timeshare management company that was too good to pass up. We even extended our vacation to take advantage of it as we already had a week at the Westin Lagunamar.

This was our second time staying at this resort. On both occassions we were there with my son, who is now 3, and my in-laws.

We all enjoy this property very much. The staff are very nice. There is ample room for the five of us in the two bedroom two bathroom condo. The furnishings and decor are a little dated but nice. My mother in law especially liked the vanity stool in the master bathroom.

The pool facilities are great! It never feels crowded.

There were a couple of negatives on this trip. First, the laundry facilities are not located in the room and I paid $8 for two washes and a dry when I provided the laundry detergent. But with a toddler, laundry facilities on site are a must.

The other negative was that they were doing quite a few repairs/maintence on the property so at times it was a little noisy. I didn't notice the noise from inside my condo, only while out and about at the resort.

The on site restaurant has good food and good service at reasonable prices.

I recommend this resort and will stay there again if the occasion arises.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the rooms facing the pool on the first floor of the buildings surrounding the pool...
