I just returned from my annual trip to the Royal Islander. This is my 6th visit here. It is nice to return to my suite that has the same staff year after year. Our room was cleaned daily by Elvy who has been doing it every year since I started going here. Even the waiters at the pool are the same. This makes me believe that the Royal Resorts takes good care of its employees which is important to me. It is a very safe resort and very comfortable for families. Restaurants on the property have good food and you are close enough to plenty of others if you want something different. We usually like to try something more traditional. This year it was a little Mexican restaurant we heard about called VaQueVa. It was pretty good but you really need to speak some Spanish to go here. Sunrise is beautiful from the beach or observation deck. I plan on returning to the Royal Islander again next year and can't wait!

Of all the time share resorts that I have stayed in over the years, the Royal Islander is without a doubt, the best one so far! The grounds, units, restaurants and even the beach were spotless, the staff couldn't have been nicer or more accomodating. EVERYONE there, housekeeping, front desk, market, waiters , security etc were very nice. The units all have a water view and are quite large. There is a restaurant, mini market (mini only in size, not selection!) and bars on site & you do also have access to the sister resorts.

Room Tip: All rooms have water views!!!

My husband and I arrived at the Cancun airport 8 hours later than expected because of a cancelled and then a delayed flight. We had reserved our airport transfer with Thomas Moore through the Royal's website but we were concerned that anyone would be there to greet us because we arrived after hours. How delighted we were to be greeted by Elias, a Thomas Moore representative after such a long traveling day. Thank you Elias for going the extra mile, and Thomas Moore for saving our day and delivering us to the resort so quickly.
We stayed at the Royal Islander with friends in a two bedroom villa. Everyone on staff was extremely polite and helpful. The resort is immaculate, no matter where you look you will see a staff member cleaning. The villas are very comfortable and we loved relaxing on the huge balcony in the morning and after a day on the beach or at the pool. We were on the 8th floor and the view of the pool and Caribbean was amazing.
The Royal Islander is part of the Tri-Royal complex which offers many restaurants and activities. The Royal Caribbean, the Royal Mayan and the Royal Islander each have beautiful pools and incredible beaches which always provides guests with a place in the sun or shade. We enjoyed a delicious buffet breakfast at the Royal Mayan during our stay, the waiters were very attentive and remembered our preferred drinks as we arrived. Happy Hour everyday from 3:00- 5:00 at all pool and beach bars offers half price drinks. We enjoyed the Mango Daiquiri's, Banana Monkeys, Margaritas and the Miami-Vice frozen drinks.
The Royal Spa offered a special of four 50 minute massages for $200 which my friend and I shared. Our massages were very relaxing and on the pool veranda overlooking the beach.
One of our favorite meals was at the Royal's Captains Cove across the street from the Tri-Royals. We shared a delicious grilled seafood dinner which included a bottle of wine for only $95 per couple.
We wanted to visit Chiten-itza and Thomas Moore organized a private van tour to the ruins and a swim in a cenote at a ecological park. It was a long day but very enjoyable and informative. Thomas Moore has over 300 possible trips or activities in the Cancun area, something for everyone's taste. I would highly recommend any of the Royal Resorts, they certainly know how to treat guests and make your vacation one to remember.

We had such a great experience here at the Royal Islander!!! It was definitely a place we would love to revisit again. The rooms were big, the staff were wonderful, the facility was well maintained and the beaches were great. What else can I say, it was a wonderful experience.

Room Tip: We got a oceanview room. It was very nice but I think the oceanfront room is probably the best.

We just returned from Cancun yesterday, 4/21/12. We traded our timeshare for the Royal Islander. Our group included 4 adults and we were lucky enough to have the full villa on the 8th floor. All the rooms view the ocean, but being on the 8th floor gave us a spectacular view of the pool area and the ocean. The balcony is great. The beds were comfortable and the unit was immaculate. The villa is so spacious and having two bathrooms was wonderful. We heard no noise and sleeping was great; the air conditioner provided a constant hum which also made sleeping comfortable. The staff is very friendly, polite, and helpful. Just be aware that if you accept their "free" visit to see Playa del Carmen and their sister resort, The Royal Hacienda, you will have to hear their timeshare pitch. It is misleading because they have free shuttles to see their other resorts in Cancun to use their facilities. We were upfront with our concierge that we were not interested in purchasing a timeshare, and he assured us that we could just take a tour and have time on our own to tour Playa del Carmen. This ended up not being the case and it was difficult and awkward to walk away from the timeshare manager who was a high pressure sales person and was rude. After we returned to our resort, we never saw or heard from our concierge again. Other than that experience, everything else was perfect. There are four other Royal Resorts on Cancun and we took the free shuttle to see the two that were a distance from ours. We also borrowed golf equipment from the sports desk (towel hut outside) and played golf at a Par 3 Course, the Grand Oasis which is a short walk away. It was a nice course and we had it all to ourselves. It was $20 to play if you don't need to rent clubs or buy golf balls. The local buses come by the hotel constantly and we never had to wait. The buses are 8.5 pesos, 75 cents each way.

We also enjoyed the pool side restaurants at the Royal Islander, Carribean, and Mayan. It was great being able to walk the paths between each of these three properties. I would not hesitate to stay at a Royal Resort again in the future. it was a great vacation.

My daughter, son-in-law, and I just returned from our second trip to the Royal Islander. We had a wonderful time. It was nice to return and find the same friendly staff waiting to welcome us home! Everything was just as perfect as I remembered it from last year. This year we stayed in a 2 bedroom villa right on the beach. It was great! The sunrises are beautiful. Last year we stayed on the 7th floor in the center building which was nice too. From there you get a great view of the pool area and the beach. The food and drinks are fine, and the staff is polite and friendly. We used the shuttle bus to go to the Royal Sands for our massages which were wonderful. We also used the city buses that are fast and plentiful. We booked our tour to Xcaret through Thomas Moore at the resort. We went on a Thursday which was nice as they pick you up and drop you off on the doorstep of the resort! We also did the Pirates of the Caribbean dinner tour. It was so much fun. I have found travel to Cancun to be very safe. We will be back again next year!!
