“Great !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2012

- great family location
- lots of kids activities and terrific security.
- no cash transactions (everything is on your room card). Thus almost no beach vendors.
- extremely clean and neat. Gardeners and maids are always at work.
- Having a well stocked market and travel agent on site are very convenient.
- Great pool and beach access and environments.
- palapas and lounge chairs on beach provided.

Room Tip: I recommend ground floor by the pool (especially if you have children), or beach front for the spect...

I rated a 2 because of how strong outside noise can be heard. My wife kept on getting woken up by our neighbors throughout the night, and had trouble falling asleep because you can hear everything that goes on outside.Overall, the staff was very friendly. The beach was clean generally, but towards the end of the trip, due to a storm, the water had a lot of plants floating. You couldn't swim without touching the plants. The market is a bit overpriced, but is convenient. We payed 8.5 pesos to travel to WalMart by bus and did most of our grocery shopping there. Due to the poor insulation, we wouldn't stay at this resort again.

I am a travel agent, and have been all over the Caribbean. The Royal resorts are great. They are always clean, service with a smile, beach is always immaculate, restaraunts are just ok onsite. You have access to four other sister properties by free shuttle. The best places to eat off the property but nearby are the Captains Cove Sea food on the lagoon side for sunsets is awesome and the food and service is 5 star quality. Also, the Haciendas Sisal with Mexican cuisine is 5 star quality and service. You get 10 percent off these places and all other Royal restaraunts. Since you have full kitchens in your one or two bedroom condo, you can choose to dine in.There is a small grocery store onsite. I have been at all the Royal Resorts and they are all great. The only thing i wish they had was some kind of night entertainment onsite, like maybe comedians, or a small dancing area. They do have activities during the day like bingo, pool aerobics, painting, and ceramics. They are timeshares but they don't push you to visit, and if you choose to go on one because you are curious, they still do not push you. There are plenty of palapalas on the beach but need to reserve early before 7 am to get a good one, even though there are signs telling you do not save chairs people still do it. For you drinkers out there, you can buy fifths of your favorite drink in the small grocery store onsite or beer or wine.It is much cheaper making your own than buying them from the waiters or the swim up bars. They are like 8 dollars US unless happy hour at 3pm which is 2 for 1.Still way to high compared to making your own. They you for taking your time to ready this from Keith at heavenly_travels@sbcglobal.net

I just returned from another visit to the Royal Islander in Cancun. I have lost count of the number of times I have vacationed at this resort. I consider it a refuge whenever I need a break from the day-to-day. It is great for families and friends and it is also terrific if you are traveling alone.

Everything is meticulously maintained and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Everyone on staff is accommodating and nothing is too much trouble. I will continue to make this destination my favorite for rest and relaxation.

Room Tip: Ask for a beachfront villa for a fabulous view.

My husband and I stayed here with our teenage daughter and her friend. It was a great place to stay. The property is clean, the staff are very nice, and the beach is beautiful. If you are looking to party - this might not be the property for you. It is away from the party area and while you can take a bus (it's very easy) it's not a quick ride. You could easily stay on this property and never leave. The Islander is connected to it's two sister properties and as a guest you can use any of the properties and two others as well. Between the 3 properties, there are enough food options to satisfy everyone and the prices are not too bad.

This property (and all the Royal properties) use your key to bill you for everything. There is never any cash exchanged. The upside is that it is very convenient and hassle free. The down side is that it would be very easy to go over a budget if you didn't pay attention. Personally, we loved the system. You do need a credit card as upon check in the hotel will secure a balance in advance for those card charges. If you get close to the original charge, they will contact you to let you know.

Finally, they have an on-site service to plan any adventures you want to take. Again, this was very convenient and nobody pressured us to participate in any additional activities.

Many reviewers commented on having a personal concierge. We checked in a day later than we anticipated so that may have impacted it, but we never had a concierge - which was personally fine with us. I suspect if we had asked for one, we would have had one assigned immediately. They are very efficient!

Overall, we would stay here again.

Room Tip: We were located in a connecting rooms near the front (check-in) area of the property. While it was...

Professionalism and service have always been best at the Royal Islander. A recent incident proved this again when some guests who had been drinking heavily, disrobed completely to use the public beach showers. Security person Sr. Lima dealt with the situation swiftly and in a manner that respected the drunken guest but also assured that children and adults in the area would not have to see that sort of thing again. Kudos to Sr. Lima and the staff of the Royal Islander.

Room Tip: Not a bad room in the place.

The Royal Resorts chain seems to have gotten it right. We traded our time share for a week in Cancun and just happened to select Royal Islander. The resort is beautifully designed and maintained. The time share aspect discourages spring breakers and is relaxed and more quiet than the typical resort which is what we prefer. Having three resorts right next to each other gives you the option to change pools and restaurants. They have a shuttle that will take you to the other two Royal resorts in Cancun. That saves cab fare and allows even more choices. The restaurants choices are better than most in this type of resort and are quite good. There many restaurants close to the resort that offer great atmosphere and wonderful food as well. The staff is friendly and helpful and the beautifully landscaped grounds are well maintained. We stayed a week and wished it could have been two.

Room Tip: Rooms above the third floor will give a better view of the ocean.
