“Nice time ”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2014

We stayed July 2013, family of 4. Our kids were 7 and 8 at the time. Easy ride from the airport. We arrived before check in time, completed check-in process fairly quickly and waited for our room. No welcome drinks upon arrival. Room was clean, nice views. It was quite loud as we were on the 3rd floor over the pool. Beds seemed small and a little harder than I prefer, but fine. Our biggest disappointment was the Kid's Club. My 7 year old wanted to go one day, and when I took him down the staff member repeatedly told me that they close for lunch, not a very warm welcome for my child. I forget what time they close in the afternoon, but do be aware that they have limited hours. The entertainment around the pool was fun, but definitely more adult oriented. Chairs could be scarce at times, but we could usually find at least one to put our things down and wait until others came available. We loved the beach, although we were never offered any service while we were there. We weren't even aware there was supposed to be drink service on the beach until we read about it in other reviews. We ate at the pizza place by the quiet pool and found the service to be very slow and less than friendly. The steak restaurant was wonderful, great food and service. The Buffett was good with plenty of variety. The drinks were very weak, but tasted good. We made some friends and really enjoyed our time, but felt this was not a great place for families with younger children. Overall we found the staff here to be much less friendly than at other resorts we have stayed at. They were not rude, and did their jobs, but we definitely did not feel pampered.

The Riu Caribe is I would say a 3,5 star. The hotel is on the hotel zone, not too far from the club scene. The service was good, and the pool was alright, it wasn't that big. The food was decent, nothing too crazy, but it wasn't disgusting. I think the down side would be the beach, alot of seaweed and it was a very small beach. Book this hotel if it's under 1000$, not more. The good thing is that there are 3 or 2 more Rius around and you have access to those also to go eat and enjoy the beach. They are bigger and nicer.

Just back from two weeks in Cancun staying at Riu Caribe

Pro's
Location, excellent beach position
The food, excellent choice with first class presentation, five star standard
The staff, With the exception of one individual who works behind the bar we found the staff to be polite, obliging and very friendly.
Cleanliness, there is an Army of cleaners constantly cleaning
The mini bar along with its optics is topped up daily with beers, soft drinks and water
Con's
Sun beds, impossible to get a sun bed after 07:30 around any of the hotel pools, hotel does not manage this situation which is very annoying when bed after bed remains empty of occupants just covered in the towel which was possibly draped over sometime during the early hours.
Rooms, the ones on the lower levels suffer from poor views and excessive noise up until about 11:00'pm
Children's entertainment, for an hotel of its size quite poor
Lifts not always working

Room Tip: Higher the better

We spent a week at the hotel. Enjoyed ourselves. this was our first time in Riu chain back 4 years ago.
The best part of this hotel is the beach and the sand. Great service both on the beach and the rest of the hotel. Restaurants are not worth the booking. Drinks are great and the staff are very friendly.

We went to the pyramids by car through the villages and saw how people live.
I recommend this hotel but not to those who are seeking five star.

The resort was worth the money (considering it is one of the most inexpensive resorts in Cancun). The appearance was extremely nice!! Just like the pictures!!!! Everything was immaculate and the staff were very, very friendly!!!! The food at the restaurants that you have to make reservations for was very very good!!!! The general lunch and dinner buffet foods were not very good. However the breakfast buffet was outstanding!! The rooms were nice, but the walls were paper thin and you could hear every move that was made in the rooms next door and in the hall. In the bathroom, I could hear the people next door talking. All through the middle of the night you could hear music from the lobby bar area and all kinds of people screaming and cheering at the bars...very disruptive until after 2am every morning. Also, the housekeeping would be cleaning very early in the morning and you could hear them scooting furniture around and it sounded like they were inside our room!! Very noisy!!

The beds would rate a 1 out of 10. The mattresses were as hard as a rock. Our backs hurt the entire stay, and I asked other couples staying at the resort if their bed was hard and they said YES, extremely hard!!! For such a nice resort, they need much better quality mattresses!

The layout of the resort was wonderful!!! You could be in a restaurant, in the lobby, at the pool, pool bar, pool pizzeria, or the beach in just a few steps!! It was amazing!!! All of the staff are 5-star!!!!!!! Go the the Calypso Theatre at the resort. They put on outstanding shows!!!!! ONLY negatives were the hard mattress and the thin walls and noise.

Room Tip: Do not choose a room in the middle of the resort, where they have Jr. Suites. They are on levels 5...

A little late, but I stayed at the riu caribe in the beginning of February. We were a little weary at first as it is one of the cheaper priced of the rius, but knowing their reputation we gave it a try. IM SO GLAD WE DID! Everything about this hotel was absolutely amazing! We arrived a little earlier than the check in time, but we threw on our bathing suites and took right to the pool! The front desk held our luggage so we didn't have to worry! The swim up bar is the best, the beach is GORGEOUS, the entertainment staff is amazing especially crazy Cesar! No need to book the higher priced rooms either! We just had the general room and it was everything we could have hoped for! Exceptionally clean! We had no problem walking around barefoot in the room the whole time! Pretty nice view! The mini fridge is stocked everyday with water and sodas and beer! The restaurants were great! Although you do have to make reservations the day before/ early morning of. The buffet was great! Which was surprising for a buffet but there was always a wonderful variety of food! The only thing I wish there was would be more entertainment at night, but after a day in the sun we always passed out early anyway! This hotel exceeded my expectation for the price! We are returning in July and were sad to see that the riu caribe was sold out! :( for good reasons though! So we ended up booking the riu palace peninsula which is right next door on the property! I would recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone! Thank you riu caribe for making our vacation more than we could've expected!

Spent 2 weeks at the Caribe as a group of 4 (2 couples).

There was a mix of couples, groups and families staying at the Caribe.

The rooms were modern and comfy. They were cleaned every day (even if put the come clean my room sign up until the afternoon) and we did not have any problems with the fridge being filled up,

Staff were all friendly and helpful especially the Riu Entertainment team.

Personally if you want a relaxing break I wouldn't stay here as there is stuff going on around the pool all day, every day and you can also here this from the beach as well as activities going on on the beach. This was fun when joining in but by the end of the two weeks when you just want to chill and the same games and music are being played there it can start to grind on you a bit.

The beach was lovely though and was good fun going on the paddle boards and kayaks for free. The water was turquoise and looked exactly like the photos. If you want to use the catamarans you need to already be able to sail them otherwise they charge you to show you how to use them. There was a waiter on the beach who was very nice who got you drinks from the bar which was good.

The food was nice but nothing special. There was a lot of choice though and I didn't get bored in the two weeks I was there but other people I was with did. The breakfasts were very good with lots of choices including fresh juices.

All the facilities were good and the hotel, pool, beach was always clean. Location wise there is a bus stop right out side the hotel and it costs around 50p to get into town and takes about 5 minutes.

The hotel ticked all are boxes, as a young group ,we were out in Cancun pretty much every other night and often played drinking games in the lobby with other guests we met and came hoem early morning. The hotel had the right mix of people to allow us to do this. I would like to add that on the nights we weren't out we didn't get woken up by noise.

Cancun in general was really good fun! Coco bongo is a must. Cancun however is very amercanised and you do not get a feel for mexico!

Personally if I was looking for a 5 star luxury, romantic paradise I wouldn't go to Cancun or stay in the Caribe! However if you looking for a very nice hotel where you can have fun then this ticks all your boxes.
