“BEAUTIFUL ALL-INCLUSIVE RESORT!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Riu Caribe was the FIRST all inclusive resort I have been to in Cancun. I went over the Christmas Holiday and they had "entertainment" every night. The night of December 24 they had a "BEAUTIUL", "ELEGANT" dinner buffet.
The hotel was beautiful, the rooms were very nice, choice of different restaurants was wonderful as well. The waiters (especially Fernando, the Acapulcano at the lobby bar) were all very friendly.

Good service, could improve the food options and probably better maintenance to the rooms. Good restaurants but limited access to some of them. You need to do a reserve the day before and there is no guarantee that available places are at the time you wanted.

A great week long all-inclusive stay at the Riu Caribe. Everything about the stay makes me want to return. The Resort's entire staff are all A+, very friendly and helpful. Food & drinks were all fantastic. Rooms were all beautiful marble and kept satisfactorily clean. Nice pool area, and beachfront. I also enjoyed having the dive shop attached, very handy.
The only thing I didn't like was trying to sleep one night and listening to loud television coming from the next room.

Room Tip: Despite paying for an economy room, at check-in we asked for ocean view and received it complimentar...

Good value for £ and would go back to this hotel. Mexico has chamge a lot since I was there some 15 years earlier yet next time I would go back a month or two later so I could do the shark Diveing as I missed out as only a couple of hammer heads there that I missed.

Stayed in this hotel from the 22nd of July for 2 weeks. When we arrived at the hotel we where checked in quickly and our bags took to our rooms. After being in the room around 10 mins we got a call from Angel from reception to see if our room was ok, i told him that our fan was a bit nosey and that i did not love our view, he told me to come to reception the next morning at 10am and i would be able to move to another room. I done as he asked and we were moved to a another room with no issues and the room was perfect :) Rooms are cleaned daily and mini bar always stocked up for you. No fault in the room at all! There is a few resturants in teh hotel, steak which i ate in twice but i would not return to after the 2nd time as the manger was extremly rude to our party because we did not wish to sit in our seats as it started to rain and he was extreamly rude! Mexican restuartant was good but not a great choice, and the Asian resturant was my favourite out of the 3 resturants. The Buffet resturatant was my favourite out of all the eating places, there was a good choice of food and as ther was 11 of us in our group and everyone always found something they liked and could eat. The bar service is always good, but they are always busy so sometimes you can wait a few minutes to get served. The lobby is pretty warm as its not got many fans but you just sit outside and get the breeze, so its not a big issue. The 24 hour bar is extreamly warm at night i think i was only in it twice and i dont think i lasted more than 30 min at a time. This was my 2nd time being in cancun and i stayed in the Barcela costa previously, i liked the hotel and only had a few issues but i would not say its a 5 star. If a was returning i think id try another Riu but still a great holiday.

Room Tip: Pick a room up above the 3rd floor if you want a good sleep. We were in the 9th Floor and was never...

We arrived at the Riu Caribe and were greeted by Angel and a nice cold cocktail. We were allocated a central room on floor 9 with great view of the pools, the beach and Isla Mujeres.

The room was very spacious and clean and had a maid service everyday. The complimentary fridge & optics were restocked every 2 days. We left tips daily for the maid which was never taken for some reason. Staff were very helpful if we needed anything on the odd days too.

Positives.

The beach was brilliant. Staff worked tirelessly every morning to remove seaweed, and the water was crystal clear. There were always plenty of beds available but had to get there handy if you wanted one in the shade.

To the right of the beach was an artificial reef made with sandbags which has an abundance of Caribbean fish. On one day alone we saw a lobster, 5 squid, damsels, angels, surgeon & doctor fish, trigger fish and butterfly fish. It's definitely worth taking a snorkel out.

The staff at the hotel worked extremely hard all day. The buffet and bar staff in particular were very friendly and hard working making sure your table was cleared of any plates etc.

The small pizzeria by the quiet pool was delicious. They had a menu of around 6 pizzas that could be ordered from 11am-6pm cooked to order. We never waited longer than 30 mins.

The quiet pool was the best if you wanted loungers in the sun & shade. You could get a bed any time of day and the water was like a bath.

Negatives.

The food in the main buffet was very repetitive and far too salty. Breakfast wasn't too bad if you went for the made to order items such as the eggs, pancakes and omelettes. In a party of 12, 3 people got a stomach upset.

We had food in the steak house which wasn't anything special and also at the Asian. However, they had an Asian night in the buffet the night before we went to the Asian restaurant, and the food was exactly the same which was a bit disappointing. However, the fried Icecream was an experience.

The lifts in the hotel are very temperamental. The lifts which took us right to our room were always breaking down which meant us walking up a full 9 flightsoif steps one time which was never repeated because we found another 3 lifts on the other side of the hotel. However, maintenance teams would be out quickly to fix the lifts but they didn't last long.

Although the hotel was clean and friendly, we wouldn't recommend it to family's with young children due to the lifts and the drinking games in the main pools.

We went to the local shopping centre on the bus from just opposite the hotel which was a great afternoon out. Also if you need any directions or advice, the reception staff were great and the taxi dispatcher outside was a nice touch.

We went on a whale shark tour from Isla Mujeres which was a MUST DO if you enjoy snorkelling. We went with Jorge De La O (they are voted number 1 for a reason) and would definitely recommend them.

Overall, a great holiday but let down by the salty & repetitive food.
