We dined at Du Mexique for our anniversary this year. We've been to Cancun on and off for over thirty years and this is the first time we've been to Du Mexique...it will certainly NOT be the last. Chef Alain greeted us and, as we were alone in the dining room (being Americans we tend to eat earlier than most...the dining room filled up later in the evening), he suggested we share each of our appetizers and entrees in de gustation menu style. What a great idea! The food was fantastic and Chef took the time to describe (and discuss!) each item with us. He told me how to make several of the menu items. He offered recipes! He was the most charming man and VERY attentive. (BTW, did I say the food was fantastic? Creme of Cilantro Soup, Tarte Tatin with Figs and Foie Gras, Duck Confit stuffed with Duxelles and Foie Gras and a Rib Eye Steak in Bordelaise Sauce...and then dessert!).
And then there was Sonya, his wife. So charming and welcoming! Her friendly manner and personality enhanced an already wonderful evening.
And, oh by the way...All this with a terrific wine and a well deserved tip...$180 US for two. I expected twice that!
We will be back....maybe later this week! NOT TO BE MISSED!
