The location is perfect, within walking distance of all the clubs/nightlife and souvineer shopping.
The "Club Level" is under rennovation until 10/31/09. But since we had purchased the Club upgrade we received free FULL breakfast each morning. Three days in "O" Restaurant and 2 days at "The Grill". Service at the "O" was not very good. Since it was "buffet" style we were basically ignored and it was almost impossible to get a soda (they had to go get it from the bar and acted very put-out that I would even ask for a soda at 10:00am, even after we tipped them). We were charged $2.50 USD for the soda (but the rest of the full breakfast was free. go figure). The breakfast buffet food was very good, very fresh and there was a nice selection.
We were also provided with evening cocktails (2 each) and hors d'oeuvres from 5-7pm each night at "The Grill". The service at "The Grill" was better than the "O' and the atmosphere was nicer. The hor d'oeuvres were not plentiful, but what do you expect for "free". We purchased a couple of dinners and I highly suggest the duck tacos for an appetizer. They are the best thing we had, kind of a Asian-Mexican fusion dish.YUM. The service got better each visit as the waiters begin to recogize us and realized that they were going to get a decent tip.
The service at the pool was good, the drinks were fairly strong and got stronger with each tip, so take it easy in that hot Mexico sun my friend. The pool was very nice and a great place to spend a lazy afternoon. Chicken Nacho's were pretty good at the swim-up bar.
The maid service could have been better. Just the basics. We requested extra pillows and towels but did not receive them. They did not replenish the bath soaps at all (even after leaving over $11USD in tips the first day).
We had ordered chocolate covered strawberries and a box of chocolates on the Hyatt e-concierge web page on the Hyatt website however we never recieved them (the front desk said that they would check on it right away, but we never heard back from them). They did not charge us for them so it's not that big of a deal (just a little disappointing).
The doorman/porter Allejandro was VERY customer service oriented. He always called us by name and answered all of our questions. He arranged reservations for us at the "La Mansion" mexican steakhouse at the hotel next door (try the chicken spaghetti! It's awesome!). He saved us some money by suggeting a taxi to the airport for $28USD instead of the van we had arranged for $65USD.
We also did the Xel-Ha all inclusive (arranged through the Expedia concierge at the hotel), it was GREAT and we highly recommend it (we had such a good time on Friday that we went back on Monday). It was $125USD per person and that included an 8:00am pickup and return to the hotel at about 7:00pm and all the food and drinks at the park.
We will go back to this hotel next November. Hopefully the rennovations will be completed and ALL of the services will be as good as the service we received at "The Grill" and at from the doormen.
