We stayed at the CPC 4/17-4/24/2013. Traveled with my husband and 2 kids ages 10&12. Started to worry about my choice in the days leaving up to travel based on reviews I was reading. Our flight was delayed in Houston by an hour so we were pretty tired and hungry when we landed in Cancun. Somehow managed to get thru customs/immigration and out to our ride in less than 20 mins. That put me in a good mood.
Arrived at the hotel after a very short ride from the airport. Stepped out and immediately were greeted by bell boy who took our luggage and showed us to the front desk. Didn't get a welcome drink but check in was so fast we didn't need it. The did try to offer us an upgrade but since we booked the Standard Plus the only option was the two floor suite. Since we already had a room with bunk beds and a king bed with fridge I didn't see the need to spend the extra money. We declined with a no thank you and got our room keys. Bell boy met us with luggage and directions to our room and off we went. Only got asked once about the "vacation club" as we were on the way to the elevator.
Our room (1249) wasn't anything spectacular but the view sure was. Fridge was stocked with Coke products which made my spouse happy, and lots of water. The king bed was a bit on the firm side (ok that's putting it nice, it was like sleeping on concrete) but I expect that to a certain extent in Mexico. The kids' bed was however extremely soft and I even contemplated switching them at one point. Air conditioner never felt as cold as I would like it but we did acclimate pretty quick. Maid always kept it well cleaned, with enough towels for all of us and one extra. Always left her a tip and some days she didn't take it unless we left a note telling her to. It is possible to watch TV in English just push the LANG button on the remote and you can easily figure it out. Our room was on the 2nd floor so we just took the stairs (52 to be exact since my daughter counted) and I believe that helped us to keep the weight gain to a minimum while gone.
Food: We made reservations for 2 of the specialty places before we left via email. I recommend this. First night we had buffet and we were pleased. Lots of choices and food was always plenty hot. Nice to actually get Mexican food in Mexico. We also ate at Fisherman's (delish), the Mexican restaurant was also good. To make our last reservation for Wayne's Boots I called at exactly 8am and got thru on the first try. Had a great steak there that night (rib eye). Kids were a little disappointed they can't ride the bull, have to be 18 and older. Lunches the kids at at the poolside bar. Lots of burgers and fries. They mixed up some things and on some days we got onion rings, calamari, wings and deep fried veggies. All very good. Husband and I enjoyed the Sushi place. Breakfast in the buffet daily didn't get too boring as there was so many different things to choose from.
Pools: We mostly hung by the main activity pool until we discovered how much quieter and cool the other pool is. Husband and son got pretty sun burnt and shade is hard to come by so I regret we became the people who played the towel game. Lost a towel one day but someone ended up fessing up that it was ours. Next time I will bring my own from home. My towels don't cost $35 if I lose one. I understand why they do it so I'm not complaining but the towel game is just too much for me. After the sun burn issue we spent a lot of time in the indoor pool. Kids still got to have fun, I was still able to find a little sun there and husband wasn't turning crispy.
Drinks: Roberto and Angel were awesome and no matter where we ended up they found us and kept our drinks coming. Some of the blended stuff was too sweet for me but the mojitos were mostly good. I found that drinks in the specialty restaurants were better quality than at any of the bars. Since we were with kids we weren't there to party so never really caught a buzz. Whether that's because we didn't drink much or they were weak I don't know. You could always ask for more booze if you want it. They are there to please.
Never once felt like anyone was expecting a tip but we do tip for good service. Service all around was great. Would for sure return to this resort. Kids were never bored. Ocean was so much fun to play in the waves right in front of the yellow flag. Even my chicken of a daughter loved playing in the ocean. My son did get stung by something and got a weird rash (was told maybe thimble jelly fish). The store told me what I needed to buy to put on it and it helped a lot with the itchies. My daughter did the rock wall once and the zip line 2 times (only open from 9-11a) while we were there. She loved it. The kids and my husband enjoyed the water slides but I wouldn't try them as I don't like the enclosed tube kind and both of the slides had an area on them that was fully enclosed.
Over all it was a wonderful vacation and I'm already mourning it's end while sitting here at work. Would gladly return. All those who have complained must be a whole lot more picky than me. Is it a 5* place....no...but we all know that when we book it. Is it a couples resort...NO...but I know my parents would love it even with kids running around. If you hate kids or want time away from kids don't go. It's geared towards families.
Thanks CPC hope to see you again someday!
