I know this review is very long but please take time to read it!
Firstly I would like to bring up the stupidity of bad reviwes this hotel has - what is wrong with you? Are you sure you have the right hotel, or did you end up staying in the hurricane abused one next door, because everything you say could not be more wrong! Please do not listen to the bad reviews this hotel is lovely - we did not have a single problem or fault with anything and I have never ever felt this way about any hotel/holiday before!
We arrived and as soon as we stepped out of our transfer - there was a Bell Boy, taking our luggage out of the car, telling us not to worry or help. We checked in - it was super quick, but I can be so greatful and understanding in the fact in prime season with bus loads of you turning up it may take a bit longer - but get over yourselves! Even before we had checked in though, we were offered either a glass of champagne each or even beer if we didn't like champagne, already amazing. They then directed us to our room and told us the Bell Boy will be up with our bags in a few minutes.
We stepped into our amazing room. We had upgraded to the Crown Club rooms (WHICH I COMPLETELEY RECOMMENED YOU DO) so we saw the jacuzzi and laughed, we were so excited! The room was spotlessly clean, our view over the pools and the beach was breathtaking - even seeing the sunrise in the mornings were beautiful.
A/C WORKED PERFECTLY FINE AND HAD A FAN OVER OUR BED!!!
After a little while of exploring and getting used to our room our doorbell rang and there was Jose, the Bell Boy with our suitcases, very quick and efficient. He revised our room and went over that the minibar was non-chargable, showed us how to use the safe and the telephone etc. He helped us with all of our questions such as their currency, he was brilliant!!! (Thank you Jose!)
After we had gotten used to the hotel, we would eat breakfast at the Crown Club Lounge every morning and that food was great, it had a selection every morning, from an american breakfast to crossiants, toast, cold meats, yoghurt, ceral and fruit (no selection my [--]). Whilst eating we would have a fantastic view of the pools and beach, who wouldn't want that? We had our own conceirge and free wifi, the ladies who worked on the conceirge would ALWAYS ask you if you want to make a dinner reservation for the night and the next night to make sure you had one, if you wern't going to th buffet (you do not have to make a reservation for the buffet). So it was a great reminder, very helpful.
Dinner, we are a bit of a fussy couple, we do not like French food or seafood, so I have no advice on those restaurants, although if I can go on all of the others they'd probably be great! We went to all the others though - I mean with 6 Restaurants and a buffet to choose from where can you go wrong? Again I want to point out - reviewers, 'no variety' really? Anyway; we had amazing food at the buffet, the Italian, Mexican and the Steak House (Wayne's Boots). There is a small set menu in all restaurants, but theres enough all together to have a different thing for about 3 nights for each restaurant plus the buffet has soooo much selection and its all wonderful food.
The waiters make you feel so special like VIPs, Rudy in Wayne's Boots was a fantastic waiter so helpful and courteous!
To add, lunch was great the buffet is amazing, GO TO THE DELI - the woman is fantastic bless her, gets overwhelmed with people everyday and is a trooper! You can also go to the beach hut and get chinese which is very nice too!
You are right on the beach which is so convenient, it is soft, clear sand, clear warm sea water and the workers from the hotel are out there clearing and preparing the beach every morning! There's also a bar on the beach, so you can just waltz over and grab a soft or alcoholic drink. The pools are also great, the bar by the infinity pool is convenitent too and at lunch time they prepare a BBQ! There's also and adult pool on the first floor of the main part of the hotel, nice and quiet yet sociable with a swim up bar! Get there early if you want sunbeds with a parasol though.
The bars at the hotel get really lively at night and it's brill! Trafalgar bar is located by the small nightclub round the corner from reception and that is mainly English and American based. Karen and Albert who work the bar are absolute LEGENDS! They get you so involved with drinking games etc and give you shots at every given moment it is brilliant! All bar staff remember who you are, or seemed to remember me and my boyfriend anway! And remember your favourite drinks! Orange juice during the day and Amaretto and coke at night :). At the Collage bar they barmen are great - Roger you are a top guy, thank you so much!
The clubs in Cancun are INSANE, YOU HAVE TO GO TO COCOBONOGS. This is not just for the younger generation, everyone got involved in the club crawl, it is fantastic! I can not describe the clubs and nightlife enough - just go, you will love it!
The entertainment at the hotel is also really good, we went on a Lagoon/ adult booze cruise with the hotel as it was included with our room upgrade. The staff on board again, we great Robocop (Robo[--]) You rock! He was fantastic, got everybody involved in the games and was really good fun.
That was not the only excursion we did, we went to Coba ruins (very interesting and a great day out) and went on a Jungle tour and snorkelling etc! You MUST do excursions, there is sooo much to do Cancun is full of great trips and activities to spend your days doing etc.
One last thing, we did not even book though Thomas Cook but our 3rd party booking used them for the hotel booking - Laura the Thomas Cook Rep was so lovely and very helpful! Just want to say a thank you to her too for making us very welcome and helping us with everything.
I think that is all but if you do have any questions about the hotel or our holiday - just messgae me, I am hands down happy to help and being utterly truthful. Amaing location, hotel, staff: Cancun is just Amazing!!!
Upgrade to the crown club room!!!
