“"Great Property but Got Sick"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

My wife and I vacationed April 16, 2013-April 23, 2016. We've vacationed there before several times, and we love the property and the activities. But this trip we got sick the third day. We suspect it was something in our oriental restaurant dinner. We know to drink bottled water always, which we did. We did not venture off the property to eat either. So our only thoughts are it must have been something at the Omni. We would have preferred to have the ala carte menu available to AI travelers like it used to be, but it is no longer....great disappointment to us. We won't vacation there again.

My husband and I recently enjoyed 5 days at the Omni and were happy from the moment we checked in until we departed. The staff was wonderful! Helpful and always smiling, with or without a tip. We enjoyed the beach as well as the pools. There was not a single thing we wanted that they did not immediately provide or have ready at any time. Restaurants, drinks, pool chairs, bus out front, advice for getting around, you name it. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about the Omni. (Fortunately from other reviews, we did avoid the people in blue shirts at the desk near check-in. Not sure what they were "selling" but they do try to talk to you upon checking in and then call your room the next day.)

This resort is phenominal for Mexico. From arrival to departure it was by far the best I have been to yet. Our room was spacious, very clean, very comfortable and no major issues with hot water or pressure. The food here was excellent, always hot and fresh. Pina Coladas was my favorite for breakfast down in front of the ocean. Fast food was excellent from both Viva Mexico and Trattoria's. Only one set back there was salad at the buffet that did not identify there was seafood in it and my friend is deathly allergic to seafood- so be sure to ask before you eat that they identify the foods that contain anything you may be allergic to. Most food was identified on the hot buffet, I think it may have been an oversight on the cold salad bar. The staff were more than fantastic, Alberto front desk supervisor is a charm and very nice, Condswella our beach waitress was super and so sweet, Carlos our pool waiter was a charm. Our room was cleaned daily with fresh linens and towels and top up on servi bar and washroom supplies. We had 24 hour room service woke up to fresh coffee each morning sitting on the patio on the day beds. No bugs, no solicitors, no pressure what so ever. More than enough security. The beach is to die for, just breath taking, big waves but still breath taking. On the beach there is security as well, locals will walk by selling stuff but will not come up to you and bother you more or less would have to wave them over, they are not bothersome. The jacuzzi pool at Kulku's beach bar is amazing. All the pools are very clean. Whether by the pool or at the beach you really don't have to move as the staff are very efficient and keep you happy all day long, you can even ask that they bring you food and they will. Tip well, what's a dollar a drink-really? You would do in Canada or the US, so why not there. I have been to many resorts and this is the best yet! Anyone who has complained about this resort is way too self righteous and needs their attitude adjusted. I didn't do any of the a la cartes as I was just there to relax and was very satisfied with the buffet and snack shacks. Fruit is awesome, drinks are awesome, do you need to get up ealry to secure shade yes and no, depends where you want to be, if by the pool then yes, if the beach you are usually good until 9ish. OMNI is awesome. I can't wait to come back-thank you Omni. :-)

Room Tip: We had 1619, great room facing Lagoon and main strip, not loud and had 2 days beds on each side of b...

The checkout was easy and quick. I will recommend to do some updates to the rooms but they were clean. The spa services were overprice.
Pros
- great food. Awesome burritos from the tractoria
- awesome amenities
- great views
- you are able to enjoy the beach
- the staff goes the extra mile to make you feel special

Cons
- Wifi not included $15 per day one device
- reservations needed for the Asian and Italian restaurant when we got there both restaurants were booked and we were trying to have a nice dinner due to an special occasion
- first day of arrival they have an special event and we thought it was public. One of the waitress gave us the drinks and then she realize we were not part of the special event. She grabbed our glasses even though we had been drinking from the glasses.

We spent a nice relaxing week at the Omni Cancun resort. Check in was a little slow but faster than the times we have stayed in Hawaii. The staff was awesome and very friendly. Any calls for towels were answered immediately. Never really waited for anything. They put up with my husband trying to speak Spanish with them all week and helped him quite a bit to make corrections.

The grounds and restrooms were very clean and well maintained. There were quite a few dining options. I will say that the buffet food was marginal, but we always found something we could eat.

Our main issue was that the guests we were there with started staking out beach and pool chairs as early as 5 am. Once those people moved on, the chair time went to 6am. WIFI was a little weak only two devices could be used for free. But we were there to get away from technology so didn't really care!

The web site says you have free Wi-Fi, it is free for only ONE device, no matter how many people in the room or villa. You cannot switch between devices. There were four adults in our villa and each one expected to be able to use their own devices. We negotiated for two access codes and paid for two. There were several hours a day when there was no connection available. It does not cost per device to provide Wi-Fi for guests, so why charge $15 per day? When I booked an all inclusive I didn't thing I would be charged more for Wi-Fi?
The villa we were in did not appear updated, there was construction in one nearby, so perhaps it will be updated. The beach was wonderful, everything else was okay. The food, the service, were all okay and I would not have complained if they also provided Wi-Fi as part of the package.
I stayed at this Omni in 12/2003 and liked enough to return, mainly to be able to stay in a villa.
I will not stay there again.

Room Tip: We were on a family trip and stayed in a 3 story villa, which had a balcony for each bedroom, two oc...

We were a family of 11 (6 adults and 5 children). The hotel was great. Rooms, pool areas, restaurants were clean and always looked after. Room refrigerator was always well stocked. Staff was very attentive to our needs in getting us food, beverages, etc. There were plenty of beach chairs at both the beach and all the pools.

When going to the restaurants, the staff always catered to us and moved tables for us to sit together as a family.. We will definite come to the Omni on our next trip to Cancun.

Check-in and Check-out was handled very smoothly..

Room Tip: Both views (ocean and lagoon) were good. Villa is large, inviting, and roomy.
