We have stayed at the Omni Hotel in Cancun a number of times, as recently as in February 2013. The hotel is very nice and could have a five star rating if it did not have to be compared to other hotels such as Ritz Carlton. etc. The rooms are spacious with comfortable beds and nice bath rooms. make sure you get a room withe balcony and ocean view. The view from the balcony is breath taking. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The entire hotel is immaculately clean and the staff constantly cleans the grounds and the common areas.
Cons: Difficult to get an ocean view room. The all inclusive rate is very expensive if one does not drink alcohol or eat a lot. In the past the restaurants in the hotel allowed guests order individual items from the menu and pay for that item. This is not allowed any longer. A hamburger can now cost as much as $20. A dinner can cost up to $50 or you can buy the all inclusive for $90 a day for a minimum of 3 days. The management is trying to persuade the guests to purchase the all inclusive plan during their stay, There is no other disadvantage.
I will stay here again if I can reserve a room facing Gulf of Mexico.
