The Omni Cancun far exceeded our expectations. My husband and I just returned from a 6 night stay, December 1-7 in a lagoon view room with the all-inclusive package. We traveled with my parents who were celebrating their 30th anniversary while on the trip. Overall the resort is amazing; however we have two small complaints. One being that the elevator was terribly slow the first 3 days of our trip. This made it almost impossible to use unless you wanted to wait 15 minutes (literally), my husband and myself took the stairs a lot during that time but they were dirty and smelled awful. Luckily, they opened a new set of elevators which worked much better. Another complaint was the entertainment in the evening was really lacking, which is fine if you don’t care to stay up and watch a show but for us it was boring in the evening. They did karaoke two nights which was a joke, and not a joke as in fun. It was awful. Casino night was pretty lame and the dancing show they put on was not much better. Everything else I can assure you was amazing; this is just some information that I would have liked to know prior to booking my vacation.
A helpful hint, you can sign up on the Omni website prior to coming in order to receive free Wi-Fi in your room. It’s under LOYALTY on their website and you just have to join. Make sure to take your select guest number with you or print out the information. Free is much better than paying $14.95 a day that we would have had to pay had we not signed up.
Here is some more in detail information:
FOOD: Every morning breakfast is served in La Paloma which is very good. Made to order omelet’s, eggs, tons of fruit, pancakes, along with other Mexican dishes. Bacon is not served on the buffet but if you ask you waiter for it they will gladly bring you some out. There are lots of places open for lunch. We really enjoy sushi and it was great to be able to grab a roll or two while you’re handing by the pool. Viva La Mexico is another restaurant located near the pool. They offer tacos, fajitas, quesadillas, hamburgers and hot dogs. We ate here a couple of times just to grab a quick snack. Everything was really good and comes out fresh; this is open 12-8. Pina Coladas, open 12-5 is the restaurant open right on the beach and this I thought was very good. Lots of seafood selection to pick from. We enjoyed the view with lunch a couple of times here. Pina Colada turns into La Deva at night but unfortunately during the week we stayed it wasn’t open so we didn’t get a chance to try it. Everything was delicious, I cannot complain about the food at all however compared to other resorts we have stayed at their restaurant selection is slacking. Dinner in the buffet was just that, a buffet. Nothing was awful but nothing was spectacular either. We were able to book Da Vinci 3 times while we were there and every single time is was impressive. Great food, make sure to take advantage of your reservations here. Also, it is fancy so there is a dress code. No shorts or flip flops for women and collared shirt with closed toed shoes for men.
DRINKS: Were GREAT, not watered down and you could definitely get the top shelf liquor if you asked for it. I stuck with the Electric Lemonade which was a frozen melon drink with vodka in it. All you have to do is ask for the top shelf brand but I will give you a tip, if you just say top shelf they think you want just extra of the top shelf. You actually have to ask for specifics.
POOLS: The pools were always cold during our stay but felt okay once you were in them. I think the ocean was warmer than the pools were. We enjoyed most of our time sun bathing or relaxing at Kuku’s which is the Jacuzzi hot tub that they keep only a little warm for it to be enjoyable in the heat of Cancun.
We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation and would recommend this hotel to others looking for rest and relaxation. This is definitely not a party hotel, but for lying by the pool and relaxing it was just fine for us. I hope you have as great of a time as we did.
