“Whole hotel smelled like raw sewage. Mold in room very strong.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

My wife and I booked this hotel based on the reviews found here. Our standards are not unreasonable and we entered with an open mind.

1)Only one key per room regardless of number of guests per room because the ran out. A week later they still were out of keys.
2)First room they put us in was a clorox flooded dungeon next to a very noisy pool.
3)They then put us in a room that was much better and even had a good view.
4)Floor in bathroom had not been cleaned...there appeared to be dried urine puddles around the tiolet.
5)That night the pipes burst and water started falling from the ceiling.
6)Then the plumbing from the toilet started to leak on the floor.
7)The hall light started blinking and calls to the front desk brought no response from maintanance.
8)The water from the pipes bred even more mold. When we got home we had to wash our clothing twice.
9)The staff seems to not have any concept of customer service, in fact, they seemed to be focused on repremanding their customers.

I don't understand how these other reviews could be accurate. The beach was exceptional, but the hotel needs to be refurbed an new management is needed.

Room Tip: In the end you get what you pay for. I will prefer to pay for having the urine puddles removed from...

First of all, I've never written a review here but I thought I had to do one for this to do it justice, I was here for a quick getaway for only 3 nights (all inclusive for two) and had my doubts about it after reading the reviews on this site, anyways, we arrived Wednesday 13 at 2pm, check in was at 3 but they gave us our room right away and not only that, they gave us an ocean view room upgrade for FREE, this was great to begin with, all the staff was helpful and nice, they took us to our room and gave us quick tips on the pool, bars, restaurants and activities. The first day we went to the beach (beautiful I must say and great location) and were at the pool bar, they had snacks from 1 to 6 at the beach every day (burgers, hot dogs, chicken nuggets fries and chips) the breakfast and dinner buffet at the restaurant was O.K., but you should book your dinners at the Albatros restaurant for a la carte menu, their Italian food was really good there, probably the best I had at this hotel, you can also have lunch here without booking it, which was good too, I had chicken wings and the burger, they were good. The room was really clean, we had a flat screen which we didn't use, we had a private balcony and housekeeping was done every morning, they also restocked us with bottled water which was nice. I did notice that the pool bar opened earlier on Friday, around 10am (instead of noon), the activity guys were always were cool too, we played pool volleyball on Friday, they had more activities planned but we didn't participate, they also had Mexican show night on Friday but we didn't attend either, the inside bar was good as well, but I only saw grown ups there, by the way, I only saw foreigners at this hotel during our stay, mostly from the US. Overall I had a nice stay, the weather was awesome and staff was friendly and helpful, If you want to book tours talk to Ray from Lomas Travel who's right next of the front desk, we booked Xcaret and Cocobongo with him at cheaper prices.

First time at this affordable beach front hotel and I would not hesitate to go back. The location is good with shopping, bars and restaurants across the street and plenty more nearby. Plenty of public transportation available at the front door. The hotel is clean, the staff is friendly. The all inclusive package offers buffet meals, the food options change slightly for each meal everyday. Albatross restaurant with decent menu choices is also included as well as pool side snacks in the afternoon and evening and all alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. A small convenience store is available on the premises.

Room Tip: An ocean view room is worth the expense. Watch the sun rise and if the timing is right, great during...

We had stayed at this hotel about 4 years ago. It is not a 4 star hotel, and we didn't expect it to be. We also didn't pay 4 star hotel prices.

We had a problem when we checked in. Because of a recent major winter storm in the North East USA, many of the existing hotel guests had their flights cancelled. The hotel manager, let's cal him "Miguel," moved us to another hotel for one night so he could accommodate the existing guests. We have two issues with this. First, we feel he should have found them another hotel and kept our original reservation. Second, they made us wait for over an hour to tell us that they didn't have a room for us. We were moved to the Great Paranassus hotel for one night, which was much nicer than the Flamingo anyway. But, we were meeting 4 other couples at the Flamingo and we had no way to contact them. The manager, who either lied to us or was simply incompetent, told us the other couples would be moved to another hotel as well. Upon our return the next day, the other couples had not been moved, and wondered what happened to us because the hotel desk said they had never heard of us! Three out of four of the other couples did not get the rooms they had paid for initially (junior suites) and one couple moved three times before they finally got the right type of room.

Other than that, the service at the hotel was typically very good, and many of the staff were happy and helpful. Probably the most consistent issue was the speed at which we were served our meals at the Albatross hotel restaurant. Which usually has better food than the "buffet". Gustavo (bellman) and Oscar (Albatross) were particularly good. Considering this was Mexico, the service was overall very good.

The hotel is a good value in most respects. Some people would be turned off by the age of the hotel and it lacks the grandeur and space at many of the newer resorts. Again, you are not, and should not, pay 4 star prices. We paid for the all-inclusive option, and we knew what to expect as far as food and drinks. The beer is average, the liquor is low quality, but mixed drinks were fine. We went out to eat a few nights for a change of pace. We tried Limoncello's (within ten minute walk), Bubba Gump's (right across the street), and a small taco place at the end of the drive to the left of the hotel (as you exit).

The room (junior suite) is good sized with a ground level balcony (patio). The jr suite included a small refrigerator which was restocked with beer, soft drinks, and water every day. It was clean but dated in decor. Being on the ground floor, it was near a hallway where the staff came and went with their carts, and the noise started about 5:30 am. Hallway conversations were also easily overheard in the rooms and a restful nights sleep were rare. Between the late night revelers, the early morning risers, and the hotel staff, there was a lot of noise coming in from the hallway. We understood from one of the other couples that the noise coming from the road side of the hotel made it difficult for them to sleep as well. For maintenance issues, another couple had to wait two days to get their air conditioning fixed, and another had a water pipe burst in the middle of the night (so that's why there is a floor drain in the bathroom!)

The location of the hotel is not bad, right across the street is a shopping mall - mostly inexpensive touristy wares, but also Margaritaville and Bubba Gump restaurants. We took the bus a few times - which is 8.5 pesos or 1 american dollar each way. They will not give you change for american money, but they will for pesos. We went to Isla Mujeres one day, took the ferry and rented golf carts when we got there. We also did the Xplor park, where the zip lining was fantastic, and the food was actually very good.

Overall, this is an inexpensive hotel, with years of wear and tear, yet clean with some very helpful (not management) staff. The food is okay for breakfast and lunch, but the dinner selection is limited. We will probably not come back to this hotel. The manager's name has become synonymous with "screwed" to us ("Boy, we sure got Miguelled on that deal!").

Room Tip: Junior suite or deluxe room on 6th floor with ocean view

We have stayed here three times before with good results, so we invited four other couples
to go. Things went downhill from the time we tried to check in. We had booked junior suites
for a week. Four couples were asigned rooms all on different floors, which none were on the
first floor were the junior suites are. The fifth couple who checked in earler in the day had been
moved to another Hotel, that we were unaware of. I asked to speak to the manager about the problem with the rooms. I showed him my paperwork for the bookings of junior suites,he said
there was nothing he could do that nignt and i would have to see the day manager. The next day came with asking to speak to the day manager, who we saw go behind the front desk. The
desk clerk said he wasn't there , then he finally came around the corner. He still had no reason for why we did not have our rooms, said he would work on it and to come back after 2 pm.
When we checked back He was only able to give the couple who just came back from the other hotel and one other couple a junior suite.Said to come back the next day and he would be able
to take care of the other three couples. Next day came with only one couple geting a jr suite.
This went on two more days until everyone was moved. It was very frustrating not being able
to unpack, and moving suitcases in and out of rooms every day for four days. The a/c did not work in one of the rooms for a day, another room the sink faucet burst in middle of night flooding the bathroom.Ice was not available for the rooms for the first three days. Food is not the greatest but you get plenty of some things.
The lady cooking eggs at breakfest was very nice. The drinks were not top shelf liquor and very watered down. The beach is very beautiful and the pools maintained well. The adult jacuzzi has no heated water. The staff is friendly but not helpful . The hotels location is excellent with easy to stores and bars.

Room Tip: Floor six with ocean view are newly renovated. jr suites have great location but very noisy in earl...

Sorry this is a long review but I like to let others know what to expect as I also read these reviews before choosing a hotel...My wife and I stayed here for our last night of a 7 day trip to Cancun on the week of February 6 2013. The stay started off badly and never did really improve. When we arrived we were left standing in their 92 degree "welcome " area while they searched for our reservation which they claim didn't exist. We booked through booking.com and had a printed confirmation with a reference # and a pin # which when we showed it to them they just ignored it and claimed we didn't have a reservation. After sweltering there for about 30 minutes we were informed we would have to pay again if we wanted to stay.At this point we decided rather than to stand there 2000 miles from home without a place to sleep we would pay again for our room. We were charged for a "junior suite room" which is a spacious room with living area ,a bedroom and a bathroom, 3 rooms total .what we got was a 1 room studio with absolutely no amenities but a tv set.when I asked to be moved to the Junior suite which we booked and paid for I was informed by their rude evening manager that there were none available. So why then did they charge me for one?THIS IS BASICALLY THEFT BY DECEPTION.Later when we realized the A/C wasn't working after running all day but not cooling the room,we reported it and were told by this same rude manager that it was working fine and not to worry about it,...Easy for him to say,he did'nt pay for the room...I didn't eat here after I heard other guests say the food sucked which would'nt surprise me seeing the other issues at this hotel. There was absolutely no room anywhere in this place to cool down ,as nowhere did they have A/C that worked. ,Not in the lobby, not in the hallways ,not in the restaurants, not even in our room. The rooms seemed clean but thats about it.This place ranked #9 out of 9 resorts we have stayed at in the Cancun area. I don't know why anybody would work all year and then spend their hard earned money to stay in a place that you can't even cool down in to sleep at night after a hot day on the beach.I would never return to this place based on our experience and the lack of care shown to us by their desk people when we raised issues including being wrongly charged for our unit. There is areason this place is ranked #124 on trip advisor, and it should be ranked even lower as far as I'm concerned.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else

Flamingo is a medium sized A/I hotel in the midst of the hotel zone. There is are two small pools ("small" in comparison to other Cancun resorts.) One is designated a quiet pool, and is located next to the gym equipent building. The other pool is larger and used for activities, water vollyball, kids, etc. There are plenty of places at the pools and the beach to sun yourself, or hide under the shade.
Food is typical Cancun buffet fare; many opportunities to eat vegetarian and had no trouble eating their fresh fruit and salads; When you get bored of the buffet, go to their restaurant Albatross for different entrees. Across the street from this hotel is Margaritaville, the Outback Steakhouse, and Bubba Shrimp. You are not going to go hungry! The hotel's gift shop is small and contains essentials that you may have forgotten to pack. You can shop at the mall across the street for a larger selection and for bargains.
We spent 10 days here in January 2013 and had a relaxing vacation, and never got bored. Spent most of our time enjoying the beach, partaking of drinks at the swim up bar, and hanging out at the quiet pool. We felt very safe here and the staff went out of their way to correct any minor problems we encountered. It makes a difference if you adopt an attitude of respect for the workers, rather than demanding that everything be done for you (your way) immediately. Relax. You are on vacation. Everything will work out.
Met folks from other parts of the USA, Canadians, Europeans and Mexicans. It was easy to connect with other vacationers over drinks and have casual conversations during the day. Perhaps that is because Flamingo is a smaller hotel venue than the other Cancun hotels I stayed at previously.. The Mariachi band performs once a week in the buffet restaurant at dinner time, the Carribbean Dancers perform once a week in the lobby. and a few local artisans sell their wares twice a week in the evening by the pool. Other than that, you make your own diversions. No one is going to "hold your hand" to make sure you are having a good time. If you are expecting a huge mega-complex hotel with nightly entertainment that caters to only USA tourists, this is not the place for you.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, pay the extra $ to get an ocean view room.
