“GOOD PLACE. OUTSTANDING STAFF”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014 via mobile

We became "owners" of a time share here about 20 years ago and to their credit, the place is fairly well kept with rooms that are acceptable for what you pay. We just came back from it last week and the experience was good.

Even though we bought the all inclusive package, we like to give a little tip to recognize good service ($5 or $10 dollars per day) and judging the waiters reaction to it, I'm sure we are some of the few that do this. Now, you may ask, why should I do it? Well, this little extra will buy you an unbelievable level of attention. They will remember your name and beverage preferences to the point of guessing when you want your next drink. Service in Mexico is normally well above average... well, this will make it beyond your dreams.

The place is small and more of a relaxing environment. Go to the Pizza place, where Ileana and Sevideo will not only give you incredible fresh, wood oven made Pizzas, but and amazing service. The view is calm and prone for a playing cards or just chatting.

Sergio and Christian are great servers at the restaurant and Pool bar and at night Amadeo will fix you great drinks at the bar.

This is not the huge thousand-room resort you normally find in Cancun and there is its magic.

The bad/ugly:
1. Some rooms at the far end are noisy because of its closeness to the streets
2. The company insists on continue selling their time shares so, some days you see the restaurant swarming with sales people doing the typical tricks...

Just wanted to thank everyone at the Sunset Marina Resort & Yacht Club for a wonderful vacation. My twelve-year old daughter and myself spent seven days and had an absolutely awesome time! Very relaxing, clean rooms, immaculate facility. The staff at Sunset Lagoon were by far the greatest as far as making us feel extremely comfortable and were very attentive to our needs. I have vacationed at many resorts over the years and I have to say this is by far one of the BEST experiences I have had.

A special thank you to Sevideo - excellent at always making sure we had the food and drinks we wanted and he always was extremely pleasant to be around.

Also, much thanks to Felipe Awimadon - the activity director at Sunset Lagoon. Felipe is the best activity director!! His charming and fun personality make him a huge asset to the Sunset Lagoon and would be one of the reasons I would have for returning to this place. Sunset Lagoon is lucky to have a person like him on their staff - he certainly makes everyone's experience a GREAT one!

Thanks also to Alexander for making sure we enjoyed our stay!

I enjoyed my time at the sunset Marina, the staff was excellent and the food is the best. We looked forward to the excellent service from Francisco every morning at breakfast. The night entertainment is excellent and the bartender is great conversation. See you next year!

The staff at the Sunset Lagoon was amazing and the rooms were even nicer. Marble and tile galore and the master bathrooms/showers were amazing! I felt I was in the Trump Palace with minus the tackiness! Your right on the lagoon which is perfect for kayaking and water sports. I also loved the hammocks and tiki type huts for just relaxing and reading a good book and was only slightly annoyed by the occasional visitor getting the dog and pony timeshare pitch so if you're looking for a topless tan....this is not the place to sun bathe. Fun notables/memories of our trip: Kids swimming with dolphins (at another resort). Deep sea fishing on a half million dollar boat and touring the local island village and eating fish tacos. Caught some small tuna that the chef had no problem cooking us up for dinner. Attending a professional Mexican League baseball playoff game and even caught a foul ball. Now the bad: Time share presentation long and cumbersome. Resist the temptation and walk away if your gut tells you to. You can find the same deals they're pitching for pennies on the dollar on timeshare resale websites. Just do your research and due diligence like you would any major purchase and try not to get caught up in the emotion of the moment. Local drivers are crazy and slow for nothing!!! Need to keep head on a swivel when crossing the streets and keep small children close by at all times. Also, when venturing off the resort, I noticed a heavy presence of police dressed in military uniforms and carrying M-16's. I noticed also that all of the upscale local homes all had security systems and even bars on their windows and doors leading me to believe that there are major security problems outside the resort areas. All in all, I intend on going back to the Sunset Lagoon as it is truly an oasis!

Went to Cancun and stayed in a wonderful 2BR 3 BA resort. The staff were excellent--super friendly. Special thanks to the dining crew: Gonzalo, Sergio, Rudy, Gabriel, Francisco, Brandon and Amadeo for making our stay so enjoyable. They were a delight! We had a few issues with the room but maintenance was prompt. If you are attending activities, be patient Felipe and others may be on "Cancun time". Miscommunication was the general theme but at the end of the day, it was a very nice trip.

Room Tip: Wifi is only in the Lobby and EXTREMELY limited. Be careful before you use the jacuzzi bathtubs. If...
