5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2003

Soon, very soon it´s finally time to go to Royal solaris again. It's going to be my sixth time and I'm looking forward to it every year. On the 28th of november we are leaving cold sweden for two weeks in paradise. So all you people that are complaining and allways have a oppinion of everything...stay at home...because I want to enjoy my self, just as you can at Royal Solaris..Paradise a long way from home....

“Disappointed”

We traveled with three other couples for four nights. When we arrived we were very disappointed with the appearance. We have stayed in Cancun four times and the Royal Solaris was definetly not as attractives as other resorts that we had stayed at. When we arrived the rooms were not ready so we had lunch...food was very disappointing however the staff was very accomodating and friendly. The pool area was very crowed which made it hard to manuver. We actually felt that it was Spring Break. We went back to the desk and asked to be transfered to another resort, which we were and was very pleased. I would never recommend the Royal Solaris.

“Great Time”

What a great time we had. USA 3000 flt no problems from EWR. The young entertainment staff was great. The kids loved to get their own frys and burgers all day by the pool. The food was fine. It was kind of hard to find food that the kids would eat in the evening though. Marco Polo had good filet and shrimp so that is where we took the kids most of the evenings. The beach is nice after you get past the flat rocks. There are places you can go through. Just take a look over the side of the pool to the beach and you can see where the openings are. Took the jungle tour that we booked at the hotel it was a two-person type jet ski that you drove for approx 40 mins then snorkeled for about 45 mins then returned. The rooms were clean, they did not get to clean ours until 2PM but we only noticed that cause the kids were going up and down. The lobby bar is entertaining at night. It is pretty hot in the lobby they need to up the A/C. Room A/C was great the kids had to get extra blankets. I like a cold room. The entire staff always smiled. We tipped good, did not need to but we did. We bought our own plastic mugs with tops it was great to walk around with coffee in the morning and cold beer and drinks after that. They had bottles of Corona, Sol and XXX, on tap was also Corona and XXX. The bottle beer is quarts so they pour it into a plastic glass for you. NO GLASS AT THE POOL!!! The kids had as many virgin drinks as they wanted. Only other name brand hard stuff I saw was Seagrams 7, Johnny Walker Red and Quervo. But they will give you as much as you want. Take the bus it is 60 pesos, each time you get on. Downtown was quite so the people selling their goods can be annoying trying to get you in their store. The girls got their hair done in town for 15 US each. Senior Frogs is a nuthouse went there with the hotel staff one night. For 21.00 US open bar all night there. Went to Xcarete (?) did not enjoy that at all. Too spread out, clean but it is a long day. The show at night is long some interesting. That was an expensive day. Around 400.00 US for 4 with transportation. That is an hour south of hotel. The hotel is showing some signs of wear. They seem to be keeping up with it though. One tower is a quite side and the other has the hotel staff keeping you busy all day. Wish they would have kept the pool bar open longer in the evening. As soon as that closes, the lobby bar opens. But it would be nice to stay that the swim up lobby bar for a while longer. Any questions e-mail

“Excellent time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2003

We stayed at the Royal Solaris from Oct 26 - Nov 2 and had an fantastic time in Cancun. We were 6 girls in our mid-20s looking to have a good time in Cancun. We paid a low price for our package and knew not to expect 5-star luxury. The hotel is older, but very well-maintained and clean. The staff there were nothing but friendly and helpful. We stayed in the Royal tower with an amazing oceanview. We were able to book an oceanview room with our package for an extra $10 per person, so keep your eyes open for this or ask your tour operator. In Cancun, if you have any problems or requests, talk to your tour operator representative. They are your most valuable asset. They have much more pull with the hotel and will try to fulfill your requests. The food in the hotel was great and the hotel puts on different theme nights to add variety. We tipped our bartenders and waiters because the service was excellent. They all seemed very surprised to receive a tip and never acted as though it was expected. If you're friendly and are nice to them, they will treat you the same way in return. For $22US we signed up for the pub crawl through our tour operator. They take you 5 different clubs. Senor Frog's was lots of fun, but the highlight was Fat Tuesdays. What can be better than dancing in an open courtyard under the stars? I would highly recommend Chichen-Itza. We also went to Isla Mujeres to snorkel and to see the island. It was nice but I'm not sure that I would recommend. Xel-ha was lots of fun as well, with snorkeling and inner tube rides. We went on our own, taking a taxi there from our resort. If you go by yourself, make sure you get there well before 12pm as all the Tulum/Xel-ha tours are dropped off then and it will get crowded. The bus system in Cancun is great. For 6 pesos ($0.60US), you can take the bus to the clubs, shopping centres and Wal-Mart (cheap alcohol). They run all the time so we always took the bus home from the clubs at 4:30am. We always felt very safe. Your vacation is what you make of it so go there with an open mind and positive attitude and you will have a great time.
