“Great Vacation!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

We stayed from 09/28/13 to 10/2/13 and we had a great time. Beautiful beach, food was pretty good for the most part and service was excellent. They have good shows every night at the main lobby and the Kinky bar. The only thing that I didn't like is that everything pretty much is close by midnight with the exception of the Coyote Loco which is more for a younger crowd. They should have something like a piano bar or even a sport bar for people that want to stay up late but don't want to be in a loud club. People seem to forget that this is not a 5 star hotel. The facilities are very nice, the service is excellent and the food is pretty good...... relax and enjoy.

I booked a 5 day all-inclusive stay at the Grand Oasis Cancun with some friends. Upon entering the hotel we were impressed at the layout of the lobby being a sort of jungle-themed with all the vines. It just happened that we arrived when a Mayan performance was happening in the lobby, pretty impressive show!

At check-in is where we got our only hiccup, the staff did not speak fluent English and did not provide correct information, nor did they seem to care either. While we were 3 people checking in, the check-in staff said we only get two of each type of drink in the fridge, which is ridiculous considering we paid for 3.

Other than that, the rooms we clean, the best were comfy, the hot water, however, was never consistent. But our rooms were cleaned everyday and fridge refilled, the restaurants at the resort itself were fantastic! My favourite being the Bahia, Cocoa, Akuru and Careyes! Least favorite had to be the Sarape, the Mexican restaurant. Not only was the food disappointing, the service was absolutely terrible, and also the only restaurant that limited you to one appetizer and one entree.

The resort was so big, you were able to select areas depending on your mood, if you wanted to party, there was an area with a DJ and a large crowd partying whether by the beach or in the pool. Anywhere else on the resort was quiet and good if you wanted to relax, I loved how I was able to lay on a padded chair on the beach and had a waitress bring me drinks.

I had the opportunity to meet new people from all over the world and taught each other our languages, I learned mostly Spanish, along with some Hebrew and Portuguese! On our last night, we hosted a party in our suite and it was absolutely amazing!

My ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE place was the VIP Lounge, EDEL and JESUS were the most amazing bar tenders in the entire resort, I'd even go as far as being the best entertainers and their service was just first class! I'd go their every night for pre-drinking before hitting the clubs and they'd give me a good laugh every time! They are definitely hard workers and deserve every dollar they make! Other bar tenders and staff can definitely learn from Edel and Jesus! Love you guys from Canada!

Room Tip: Get an ocean view room!

Just stayed at the Grand Oasis for the second year in a row and wow did things change in just a short year. Some of the reasons why we came back for our honeymoon again was gone. For example, the jalapeño poppers at coco are now gone. The BLT sandwiches were taken away at Ibiza bar. Went to breakfast one morning only to find out that they had no cream cheese for the bagels. Jack Daniels is now only available at the VIP bar. They also took away a lot of the higher end liquors that was there last year and have substituted for cheaper liquors. I did also notice if you didn't tip at the pool bars, your drinks sucked!! I'm sorry, I know people like to tip but however, when I book an all inclusive resort I should not have to tip to get better service. All you people out there that are tipping are ruining the whole basis behind going all inclusive. You leave your wallet at home. This is reflective in the service. The manager at check in was extremely rude, and please note to EVERYONE out there, Do NOT, I repeat do NOT order room service. Even though the Grand Oasis is listed as all inclusive with 24 hour room service they fail to mention any where on their website or on expedia that they are now charging there guests 159 pesos for room service. That's OUTRAGEOUS!! Last year room service was free as it should be. Let's just say they have lost our business. We will not be back next year. We will take our business elsewhere.

Room Tip: Bath tubs do not drain well, be prepared to have standing water while showering!

My boyfriend and I stayed the week of September 13-20...

Perhaps my expectations were too high. This was my first actual vacation. It was my first time getting on a plane, leaving the country and being away from the real world for a whole week in, from the pictures on the internet seemed like, paradise.

We asked for ocean view, we did not get it. We paid for all inclusive, but were told we'd have to pay for snacks in the room (which, by the way, were the only edible thing on the vacation). At least I can drink, right? Well sure, but good luck finding a bar that is open. Don't even bother with the vomit flavored rum.

I think my biggest mistake was not packing Imodium. Not only was the food unappetizing, but it made both of us horribly sick. Oh, and how could I forget to mention: I got a worm. Yep, that happened.

So, while we were both sick and not feeling well, we'd at least like to be in our room, right? Tada! The room key won't work! No biggie, go get another. Just kidding, the front desk is going to make you go up to your room 4 times before they call the bell boy to finally unlock your room and he informs you the keys aren't working. That's convenient. I do want to make an actual 'thank you' to a guy named Kristopher who works the front desk at night. He was the only one who actually fixed our room key instead of giving us the run around, unlike the manager that works there most of the time. I regrettably didn't make note of the manager's name though to put him on blast.

I will say, the beach was beautiful. The little creatures crawling around on the beach at night were amazing, and I'm grateful for that experience.

The place has potential, but it's definitely not living up to it.

My friend and I went to Cancun for a long weekend and stayed at the Grand Oasis Cancun. The hotel is in good condition and we enjoyed ourselves. Our favorite thing about the hotel was the nightly shows in the main building... these performers are unbelievable!! Better than many Vegas acts we have seen! Simply amazing!
The hotel is comfortable and we enjoyed being able to walk into the pools without steps. The food was good and there was always a variety to eat. Our biggest complaint was the amount of ‘ala carte’ items. For an all-inclusive hotel, there were way too many.
We stayed in the main building and also had access to the VIP lounge, which was nice. Especially for morning coffee. The hotel seemed to cater more to the younger adults, so if you want to go and party, this would be a good fit!
Overall a nice hotel, but not a true all-inclusive!

We LOVED the omelets for breakfast, and the apple juice was to die for! The resort itself was pretty decent, right on the beach. No major problems! Enjoyed our stay and slept pretty good, which isn't always easy in a place other than your own bed!

We stayed here in the summer of 2009 or 2010. It was a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Trying to remember what all we encountered...

The particular room we stayed in was not too bad. It was spacious with an ocean view. It needed a little updating, but it was nowhere near bad. There were no problems with the room or any other guests. The food at that time was not too bad. It was better than what I've had in some AI resorts, and worse than others. The resort is pretty spacious when compared to most of the other resorts located in the hotel zone of Cancun. There were plenty of restaurant options, and different bars throughout. I also remember spending a lot of time in the very large pool area.

It was a very enjoyable experience, but again, that was 3-4 years ago. Maybe it has improved and maybe it has gotten worse??? They kept the facility looking nice and the beach was nice. If they have done some updating/renovating, then that should definitely improve the appearances there.
