We traveled to Cancun with three generations of family; 11 people in total - two grandparents, four parents and four adult (20 something) children. Unit 511 held us comfortably for a full week.
This was our first stay at Villas Marlin. We traveled to Cancun for warm weather and relaxation. The affordability of the condo attracted us, but what really sealed the deal and will insure that we return, was the service from Alvin and Fernando. Their attention to our needs was beyond what I could have ever expected. Not only did they arrange for seamless airport transporation for our large group, but their recommendations for, and arrangements of, dining experiences and day trip outings was invaluable. Everything they promised, they delivered. Not one time was transporation promised that did not arrive early (not just on-time, but early).
Prior to our trip, Alvin asked if we would like to have him stock our condo with groceries. I responded postively and after consulting the others in our party, sent him what I was afraid would be a list of items much longer than what he might feel comfortable filling. For a very small fee above the cost of the items, he and Fernando managed to find and deliver all but one of two odd items. We arrived to a fully stocked bar and refrigerator...enough so that we only had to purchase two additional items during the full week of our stay. And those items were purchased in a very nice, fully stocked and modestly priced convenience store located in the Villas Marlin complex, only a few steps from our elevator. No taxi or bus rides to Wal-Mart to do our shopping...it was a very highly appreciated service.
The accommodations, themselves, were nice. It is an older property, but well maintained and up to date. It is located in the middle of the hotel zone, on one of the nicest beaches you will find. The rooms were spacious and clean. There was plenty of closet and drawer space in each room. Each bedroom had its own bathroom, with an additional bathroom, complete with shower, on the main floor with the kitchen and living room.
There are three pools, the largest of which has a snack bar where you can get reasonably prices burgers & fries, nachos, drinks, etc., all day long.Three steps from the pool and you are on the beach. Unlike other places in Mexico, on this beach you are not continually hounded to buy trinkets, hats, CD's, food, or any of the other myriad things being peddled by the locals. In a full week, we saw maybe three or four vendors and none were bothersome in any way...a simple 'no, thank you' and they were on their way.
Located directly across the street from the property is the Kukulcan Mall. This is a brand new, nicely appointed shopping mall where you can get everything from cheap souveniers, to hand crafted swords and cutlery, to the latest watches, sunglasses, perfumes, electronics....you get the idea, it has everything. Restaurants in the mall range from Burger King, to the Tequila Grill (entertaining and good food), to Ruth's Chris Steak House.
If you are into walking, you can head north on the main drag and reach two other large shopping malls within twenty minutes. Within that trip you can reach many different restaurants and clubs, some of which include Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville, Outback Steakhouse and Bubba Gumps. If you prefer not to walk, you can reach all of these, and more, by catching the local bus... for 8.5 pesos you can go as far as you like.
If you want a truly memorable dining experience, have Alvin arrange for you to visit Palapa Belga. It is outdoor dining, on the water, with a view of the hotel zone...beautiful at night. Great food and affordable. It is a bit off the beaten path, but worth the trip.
In conclusion, if you are looking for Cancun sun, beach, relaxation, and all that goes with it, in a clean, quiet and friendly atmosphere....all at affordable prices....you owe it to yourself to book with Oracle at Villas Marlin.
