if you aren't doing the all inclusive resort thing, then this hotel is perfect for your trip. we were out everyday doing various tours and beaching, and only came back in the evening to sleep. it was quiet during the 3 nights we were there... it's about a 10 minute walk to the bus stop... the continental breakfast was great, we loved it... the only thing is that the a/c was a bit like a humidifier so our room felt a little moist everytime we returned... our clothes that were wet from the day before wouldn't dry... but i wonder if that's because overall the weather in cancun is humid. the staff is super super friendly and speak english. we didn't get bothered by any time-share presentations or anything, (i read a review that someone got bothered with them). i didn't even know they had those people there... we just booked our tours on the zona hotelera strip to go to chichen itza and to cozumel. make sure when you bargain for your tours that you bargain with the currency you will be paying with. we bargained in dollars but we ended up paying with pesos... and when the sales guy converted the dollar to the peso, he used a high exchange rate and thus we didn't end up getting a bargain on our tour. :P other than that, had a GREAT trip! would recommend this hotel for those who are just looking for a budget hotel and just to sleep. oh and there is a pool if you'd like to go for a swim. Oh, and the internet we thought was free because it said "free internet" but we ended up getting charged 25 pesos after we used the internet. so, make sure to ask before you use it. the computers were down the first night we were there. :P

Our Mexico adventure was made complicated by the big flu scare so we had to make some changes to our plans and this resulted in a 1 day stay in Cancun. Now Cancun is not the place to stay unless you're a teenage nightclubber and like to speed up and down the mainroad all day in your rental car. Anyway we were lucky to have chosen this hotel. It's a few hundred yards from the front so no noise, the rooms are very comfortable and spacious. The free breakfast was excellent. The reception staff are very helpful (steer clear of the travel agent in reception who constantly wants to sell you something..but that's her job!), they did some printing for me to help with out travel arrangements. There's good WIFI that's free as well. Nice pool, easy parking. At the price you can't go wrong. In fact I think it's only 2 star because it doesn't serve lunch or dinner. I've stayed at worse 3 and 4 star hotels!

We booked this hotel for a one night stop over as we flew from Florida into Cancun late afternoon and flew out the next day early afternoon. It was fine for a one night stop. Check in and out not good; slow cumbersome and not that helpful. Hotel quite full and they could not be bothered to find us a room near our kids - they wanted us at opposite ends of hotel - till we insisted and they found us rooms on same corridor. Pool nice and breakfast fine. Rooms basic, clean and A/C worked well.

Nice Clean room, comfy bed - great rates, Excellent breakfast, and quiet area close to the beach. Make sure and make it clear to the concerioges that you are not interested in time shares or presentations. Jackie - was the best and recommended great restaurants and other advice. Make sure and try the Jalepeno poppers at La Parilla and the fish at Macombo.
The hotel staff is terrible at translating to english - couldn't figure how to acess my phone messages - Take your laptop Wireless worked fine. Pool was nice.

My wife and I, along with another couple, booked a vacation in Akumal, Mexico, for five nights. We booked a sixth night in Cancun to be close to the airport the next day. We came off of one of the most enjoyable experiences of our lives straight into this place. Our experience was not pleasant. We dropped off the rental car and then had our agent drop us off at the Holiday Inn Express. He visibly cringed when we told him where we were staying. We went in the door and were told at the front desk that our rooms weren't ready, and then we were herded towards the lying time share shark's table. According to the bell boy, she was a concierge who would "help us get settled." Her lies began immediately. If we would do the time share, anything we wanted to do would be free. Although we told her that we had been in Mexico for five days, and she could see that I spoke Spanish, she consistently lied to us about the prices of excursions in Cancun. She became rude and arrogant when we explained that we weren't interested. She claimed that it would require two cabs to carry us to the airport the next day (for four people). Again a lie. Finally, we walked away from her after having been insulted repeatedly. Then, I asked the guy at the front desk to hold our bags while we went to the beach. Then he admitted that our rooms were actually ready. He, along with the "concierge," had been lying all along. This behavior continued for the duration of our stay.

The pool closes at 10 p.m. at which point the hotel sends a slew of guards out to ensure that no one enters it, despite the fact that the hotel rooms open directly into the pool area. We got back from dinner at 10:03 and were forbidden to enter.

We got up early the next morning and left immediately for the airport. Even the taxi drivers out front are in on their scams. They began lying to us about the price of a taxi. We walked about 200 yards down the road with our luggage, hailed a taxi, not associated with this hotel, and he carried us to the airport. We spent five hours there waiting on the flight, and we were much happier holed up in the Cancun airport that we would have been hanging out at this ripoff of a resort.

Incidentally, my friend travels on business and is a Holiday Inn World Points member. He is treated like gold at every Holiday Inn in America. This resort knew of his status, yet still lied to him during the checkin process and immediately funneled him directly into a timeshare scam. We've notified corporate about their actions. I can only hope that this hotel in closed as soon as possible so that others are not subjected to the treatment that we were.
