Me and my fiance stayed here the 1st two wks of Sept 09. We were a little worried after reading some bad reviews, but as soon as we got to the hotel we were very happy. We couldn't believe how friendly the staff were, they made us feel so welcome and relaxed, they couldn't do enough for you, Flor was my favourite waitress she was excellent, and works very hard every day. We had a room on the 5th floor with a lagoon view but also a little of the sea view as we were on the corner, the sunset view from the balcony was stunning. Room was very clean and spacious and the shower was very good, mini bar filled every day with lager, soft drinks, water and snacks. The food here was really nice, always plenty to choose from, the amount of work that goes into each meal time is outstanding, i'm a little fussy with food but i was always happy, breakfast, dinner and eve meal i had more than enough to choose from. My partner was over the moon with how many different meats he had to choose from.
. The shows in the evening in the tucan buffet/ theatre were very good and entertaining, with many different themes throughout the week. The only thing i wasn't that fussed on here was the lobby bar...a little boring so we found that we went out a few times after making the most of the all incl in the bar 1st. The bar was however very good if u just wanted to relax with a drink for the eve, corona on tap and the cocktails were very nice. The main pool with the built in sun loungers is where we spent most of our time...it's so hot that those in water sunloungers are like heaven to cool off. This really was the best holiday i've ever had and even after 2 weeks i still wasn't ready to leave, it was like 2 weeks of heaven and i'd definately go back. :-)

Let me first start by saying that I travel to Cancun often and was just there in August with my best friend. We stayed at the Royal Solaris. I like to try different places each time. I was very excited to stay at this resort. The reviews all seemed so good. When we arrived at the resort we were quickly greeted by a young man named Eric who took us into his office for at what at first seemed to be nothing other than him explaining the property to us and telling us that if we needed anything at all to come to him. Then he went on to ask if we would be interested in visiting a sister hotel the following morning at 8 am and that they were just trying to get this new hotels name out there. He said that they would give us a beach bag, swim suit cover and 1300 pesos if we would go to this hotel, eat breakfast then allow someone to show us around for 45 min and then we would be back at our hotel within 1 1/2 hours. My fear was this was a timeshare, but he assured me it was not so we went ahead and accepted his offer. Needless to say it was not a timeshare, but they were trying to get "members" signed up for this vacation club. I bet I said no at least 20 times before they let me leave. Back to the hotel itself.. The hotel is clearly old, but I was suprised to find that the beds were actually very comfortable.. much better than any other hotel I have stayed in Mexico. The bathrooms were nice and the shower was large.. Those are the things I liked about it. First thing I noticed was the A/C was more like a swamp cooler. The temp never got below 80 degrees even though they called maintenence twice. I heard other people complaining about it as well. I had convinced myself that this was just the temp of the whole hotel, because the resturants were also the same temp. We werent happy about it, but wasnt going to let it ruin out trip. I am from Texas so we were hoping to escape the heat.. at least a little. The staff was very friendly. I wouldnt say they went over and above.. but they were working hard. The food was pretty good.. the pool bar with the swim up bar was alot of fun. I highly recommend it. The beach did not have ANY relief from the heat. No umbrellas or palapas.. there were 0nly about 10 plastic chairs out there.. but I assure you there wasnt a problem getting one since there was no shield from the sun. The waves were alot of fun. All in all.. there are a few things I liked about the Barcelo, but I would not stay there again.

I booked this hotel the day before swine flu was announced to the world and thought "fantastic!!!" then i went home and looked up on Tripadvisor what other people had thought about this hotel and couldn't believe what i was reading about bad food, not nice rooms and valubles being stolen from their rooms. I stayed in an ocean view room and loved it. The room was a nice size with a double shower, two king-sized beds, a tv with approx 30 channels and a mini bar/fridge. We used a lock/safe box and had no problems what so ever from things going missing from the room. The cleaners were great, no problems. The hotel itself is really clean and tidy, the 5 bars are friendly and fast serviced and have Corona on tap plus proper Tequila and Barcardi on the all inclusive. The buffets have a good selection of food and drinks plus there are 3 al' acarte restuarants (Spanish, Mexican and Seafood) that you can use EVERY day as long as you book at reception before 2pm that day. The food in these restuarants was extremely nice. (I recommend the fillet steak!!!) I've never eaten so much steak before!!!.
As for the staff themselves, the ones i got to know where very nice and friendly. Jose in the #3 Pool bar, Saby in the lunch buffet restuarant and Ossi, Marianna and Vanessa who arrange the pool activities during the day are the friendliest people you could wish to meet and certainly made our stay all the better. I am already planning on going back next year and meeting up again with all the friends we made. All the bad things you have read about this hotel should be ignored. Great Hotel and even better people.

I recently spent a week at Barcelo Tucancun. It was my first trip to Mexico ever. The resort was very nice, rooms were clean, pools were nice, service people were excellent. It was very reasonably priced. The water was beautiful, but the beach was very narrow and small. I usually spend much more time on the beach when I go on vacation. I found myself at the pools alot this trip. This was the only disappointment for me, and that is just a personal opinion. The beer and liquor at the bars were not so good either. The food was ok, not wonderful, but you certainly should be able to find something you like. The breakfast buffet was very good though. I have never stayed at an all inclusive before, and I think it was a good deal. The ala cart restaurants provided excellent service and I enjoyed them very much. Overall we were very satisfied and had a great time at this beautiful place. If you are spoiled and like only top notch you may not like it here. The average vacationers should not hesitate to stay at this resort.
