Last December we rented directly from an owner at this hotel. We have been to Cancun previously for our honeymoon, and decided that we would like to try a chance and cook for ourselves this visit. We rented a 3 story villa type room. The top floor was a terrace facing the lagoon. Not that great of a view. The residences next to us were still being renovated, so there really wasn't much to look at.
The pluses of the resort aren't much. If you were paying for your food and beverages, the drinks were fairly cheap. I think we only paid $1 per cerveza. My husband said that the mixed drinks weren't top shelf, but were still good.
The beach was awesome. It was fairlly dirty in the morning, but they would come out early and rake up all the seaweed that had washed in. The service was good as far as the check in desk and bar. The women that worked in the restaurant acted as if this dsomething that they had to do and absolutely didn't enjoy.
In the room that we had, my husband and I had 2 double beds, not what we were told we were going to get. The pillows were horrible and the mattresses were like sleeping on cardboard. In our friend's room they did have a king size bed, with updated bedding and decorations. Their room had a great full-size fridge. We were told a full-kitchen, but I would not consider one burner a full-kitchen.
The minuses about the resort was that the food was absolutely horrible. Inedible I should say. We understood going in the begining of December it was going to be low season. They were understaffed to begin with. The times that we did eat, there were literall 4 different things to pick from on the menu. So we did have every intention of cooking for ourselves, but it got tired after awhile. I do have to say that the most interesting thing about the whole "cooking for ourselves" was our trip to Wal-Mart. That was definitely an adventure. Another down-fall, even though the weather was great, the pool was way too cold to just sit in and relax.
Overall for the money that we paid for 10 days there was a great deal. We paid $600 per couple, $1200 altogether, not bad. If you are looking for something extra-ordinary, this isn't it. It is just average. You really don't spend too much time in your room anyways, so its worth it.
