We just needed a hotel for the night to catch a flight out of Cancun in the early morning hours, after taxes I paid $83.00 for one night on-line. Ouch---it was too dirty for the price I paid! First-upon entering the room it smelled bad, like stagnant water or mold. The blankets smelled bad, there were red stains toward the bottom of the sheets. The floor was grimy. The noise during the night was horrid, chairs or something being dragged across the floor above and you can hear the toilet flush every time, 3:30 in the morning didn't come soon enough. If the room had been cheaper, then I would not have complained, but it was too expensive for this experience. bad neighborhood too.

This was our first trip to Cancun/Yucatan Peninsula/Riviera Maya. We definitely knew we didn't want to stay in the Zona Hotelera, and staying in Ciudad Cancun was a great way to escape the extreme commercialism that is associated with Cancun. Hotel Margaritas is in a good central location, with the ADO bus station within 5 min walking distance. There are also plenty of good restaurants and bars nearby. The city pretty much wakes up after 6 p.m. The restaurant, 100% Natural (which has many vegetarian options), was right across the street from the hotel and that was a HUGE plus! Taking a bus to the beach and back was no problem. In fact, we went to the beach in the afternoon, ate lunch, and wanted to come right back to Ciudad Cancun! If you want to go to the beach and just relax, stay in Tulum instead. If you want to spend a night or two in urban Mexico, then you'll be pleasantly surprised by Ciudad Cancun.
The best part of my hotel experience were the sheets underneath the bedspread - they were SOOOO soft!!! And it was really nice to have a free internet cafe inside the hotel. Overall, no complaints! Oh yeah, but make sure to ask for a balcony because the receptionist had no intention of giving me one until I asked for it.

My friends and I stayed here at the end of a 10 day visit to Mexico. It was nice and clean, located in the city, as opposed to out on the beach, which for us, was a feature. It was easy to take the bus to the beach, and there was a big plaza with music and good food nearby, and a number of large sprawling tourist markets with excellent food and every kind of tourist stuff from wrestling masks and tacky t-shirs to nice jewelry for sale.

Here overnight for our early flight out of Cancun. Great location with lots of restaurants and the 'main drag' in downtown Cancun nearby, yet our room was quiet (although toward the back). Also easy walking distance to the two main markets for ceramics, etc. Pleasant and helpful staff. Room is fairly basic but nice enough, clean, a/c, balcony, good beds. Has pool, parking, very nice terrace rest/cafe out front. (The wonderful La Parrilla rest. is almost nextdoor- great food, reasonable, lots of locals and generally some kind of fun waiter/show or wandering mariachis going on - an impressive staff effort at this place.) This hotel could be an option to the high-priced places at the beach I suppose, as the mini-buses are plentiful and easy to get out there.
