“Get what you pay for!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

We stayed here for 3 nights, which included continental breakfast, but this is not the normal continental; you get 1 small juice, some toast & spread and 1 cup of coffee or tea. There is no cereal and do not ask for extra juice as 1 small glass is all you get. Some of the staff are great, while others can just be rude.

Positives:
-Good air conditioning
-plenty of hot water
-fast checkout
-Elevator
-room had super fast wireless once you are connected. Sometimes takes a few goes to get connected and occassional drops out.
- there are a number of retaurants close, including MacDonalds if you are not sure of the food. And the a a few mini marts within 5 minutes walk.

Negative:
-the shower was old.
-The bathroom did not "look" clean, but was OK. The rest of the room looked ok.

An OK hotel that is close to the airport and not too far from other areas in Cancun.

“Great value near airport”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2011

Inexpensive and <30 minutes from CUN airport. Large, clean, quiet rooms though the furniture and bath design are dated. Free light breakfast, free parking, free internet.

Note that when bililng to a US credit card, the room rate was converted to USD using a fixed exchange of 13 which seemed odd, but was not unreasonable and the charge for one night was a bargain!

“ok for 1 night prior to trip, cheap, 30min from airport”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2011

We got a cheap rate (December 11 2011) ~$60, including continental breakfast for 2 people.

Positive:
-Continental breakfast included (coffe, juice or fruit, bread+ spread.)
-Good air conditioning, and TV with lots of channel, hot water
-we were able to park right in front (free parking)
-fast checkout
-Elevator
-room had super fast wireless
*If you like Japanesse food, right across from the hotel, there is a great japanesse. We got great sushi for 100-95 pesos, tempura for 135 pesos. Great service, great quality of sushi, and the walk is a 2 min across the street.

Neutral:
-Check in slow. And, we were charged their "ongoing" exchange rate. *I think it was 12 or something, vs the 12.90 seen everywhere else

Negative:
-public computer with super slow internet and no printer
-the shower was beyond old. It looked put together with cheap glue
-Old blankets/towels
-uncomfortable beds...but we were coming from spending all afternoon hiking and swimming at the cenotes, so we slept fine.
-The shower did not "look" clean. The rest of the room looked ok.

*if you are looking to save some $$ and will arrive here late in the evening and will leave early in the morning, I do recommend. If you need to be close to the downtown, turistic area, this is not a place for you.

“Ughhh...don't stay here”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2011

This place was really gross. The room had textured white washed walls with some drips and stains on the walls. The bed was well worn and the coverlet was old and faded. The lighting was dim and I believe flourescent. The batheroom tub had stains and backed up when we took a shower. The water started running brown, though it did clear up after 30 seconds or so.

The drain on the bathroom floor was broken and I kept catching my foot on it. I've backpacked in Asia and stayed in some pretty run-down places, but they were $5 a night. At $90 a night, I expect clean!

Also, they advertise free parking for guests...this is street parking that they hold at the front of the hotel, and you have to pull up on the curb. And, the pool was green tinted with algae.

The only bright spots in this dismal experience: the staff is absolutely lovely and they gave us a refund for the nights we'd already paid for when we checked out after just one night. The continental breakfast was just coffee, toast and either juice or fruit, but the coffee was awesome!

“Adequate Accommodations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2010

Kokai Plaza has a great central location (in el Centro close to bus station). The hotel's rooms are adequate - somehow the air conditioning never really functioned well. Tile floors and hard beds probably resemble every other budget hotel in Mexico. But room was clean and had bottled water. Pool is very small and not so clean. Restaurant attached serving continental breakfast is good. Staff was helpful. I would probably stay at Radisson down the street in future for a few more pesos.
