“Honeymoon Package”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2005

I have seen bad reviews and good reviews of this hotel, and the good reviews were the reason we went there on our honeymoon. We booked directly through hyatt and bought the honeymoon package, which i thought was a great deal, considering that you have a open bar lounge from 6-8pm and a breakfast every morning. Additionally we got a free dinner at the nice restaraunt there worth easily over $100. Our room was also upgraded to the largest suite for free. I cant really complain about this hotel.
Some people like to critique every little flaw they find on a vacation, but i try to just enjoy myself, and this place definately facilitated that for us. I would recommend this place with anyone. Book directly with hyatt though, they have a best price guarantee.

“I liked the Hyatt Caribe!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2005

I divided my time in Cancun among two hotels...one was the Sheraton (see my review there) and the Hyatt Caribe was my final destination .....I really like this hotel, its a little older and smaller than many of the hotels there, but I think it has a certain charm. The pool is very large and infinity shaped, really nice, and the grounds are well kept. There could be more lounge chairs, I think people were saving them from the night before...If you like to walk the beach, this presents a little problem as a large rock formation on one side, cuts off the beach from the area hotels. But the rooms are nice, soft colors, comfortable beds and pillows all with a fabulous view of the ocean, which is a color that is hard to describe, gorgeous shades of aquamarine and turqoise blues, just awesome. The bathrooms are small, hard to shower and get dressed in them, but I still like this hotel . It is a nice walk into the town where there are plenty of restaurants and shopping....I would definitely stay here again.

“Would stay here again”

My husband and I were in Cancun Jan. 29 thru Feb. 5 2005 on our honeymoon. When we went to check in at about 2:30 our room wasn't ready. Which I understand 3:00 is the standard check in time. When I asked the question about them having the information on our reservation that we were on our honeymoon. They indicated there was nothing on the reservation that we were on our honeymoon. They stated that our travel agent didn't indicate this information on our reservations. Which isn't true we checked it twice before we left. I talked to the manager who contact someone from MLT. After about 45 minutes they said they would take care the honeymoon stuff the next day. Which turned out to be 2 robes and a heart shaped flower arrangement on our bed. This isn't wasn't avertised on their website for honeymooners. Still at this time our room wasn't ready so they had to move us to another room, plus we had to take our own luggage to our room because there wasn't one to be found. Also the food in the downstairs restruant was terrible. Which is sad because we paid 60.00 for this meal. I wouldn't stay here again. Our first day of our honeymoon wasn't very good. The hotel staff at the front desk were rude.

“NOT a 5 star hotel”

Stay away from the Hyatt Caribe.

Each year my wife and I head to Cancun to get a break from the ice and cold. Normally we stay at the Hilton, but this year we decided to cash in on our credit card points and chose to stay at the Hyatt. Even though we were using the Chase Travel Rewards certificate for a free night, for some reason our Chase credit card would not work at the Hotel. The concierge would not call Chase to verify my credit card and I ended up coughing up my ATM card for incidental purchases at the Hotel. Thinking something was wrong with my credit card, I ended up purchasing a calling card to call Chase myself and found out my credit card was fine... still a mystery why it would not work at the Hotel.

Enough of that though...this hotel is overpriced and overrated. For example, $6 for bottled water and $5 for a 6oz. cup of beer -- I thought I was a Woodstock. Although the hotel includes a coffee maker in the room, coffee to go into the coffee maker comes from the mini bar. Can you believe $3.50 for coffee ? I travel a lot for business and never came across this before.

They need to improve on customer service also. My room was not available until 4:30pm although check in was at 3:00pm. They did not go out of their way to "make it right" or appologize for the inconvenience.

Also, not enough beach chairs and a small pool.

Beware of timeshare staff stationed at this Hotel also. Everytime I walked down the hall, I was accosted by someone trying to sell me something or send me on some type of tour. If I wanted to be treated that way, I would have slept in the street.

Next year --- we're going back to the Hilton, I suggest you do the same.

“Great Hotel in Cancun!”

Hi there,
I visited this hotel from Jan 14-19 and it was just wonderful!
The rooms, staff and service were excellent.. I was swept into some scary waves on two separate occasions and fortunately they had trained life guards on staff that pulled me into safety.

The housekeeping staff was very attentive to our needs and did everything they could to satisfy our needs!

I would recommend this hotel would for a nice, relaxing getawy with a great beach and a very nice pool area!
