This place was absolutely amazing! They took care of us right from the moment we arrived. The lobby was stunning our room was perfect, the bed was comfortable the view of the ocean from our room was the best thing to wake up to. The food was delicious, I loved all the food. The steak house was especially good. The pools are just breathtaking. My favorite view was from the swim up bar. The star staff is what really makes this place amazing, they work non stop entertaining you, we played all the games. My favorite was pool volleyball and the running carpet. Shout out to all the guys who kept me busy and entertained. The beach was beautiful and relaxing, service was great.

The only thing I wish the had was a disco bar, I love to dance and I would be hyper after the show that ended at 11:00 after the show everyone goes to have a drink in the lobby that's very quite. So I went out to dance 2 nights out of the week. But I will still definitely be coming back to this beautiful place.

Thank you to all the wonderful staff!

Visited here with approx 15 family and friends for a 30th Birthday Party.

We had a beach view, it was amazing to wake up to the gorgeous view every morning! Definitely request!

The swimming pools and beach are stunning, but if you want some quiet time, visit the spa pool at the back of the hotel. For some reason (probably as it was overshadowed by the beach!), this was always quiet, but find some time as it lovely also.

The staff were friendly - the entertainment staff were great and always come to chat and talk if your eating alone or sitting alone - great personal touch!

Drinks were delicious - the pool barman was a legend and always knew what we wanted!

The food was gorgeous! was slightly apprehensive at first but was proven wrong - tepinyaki bar was yummy!

This was a fantastic holiday! I am so grateful to have these memories with all my friends and family at this fantastic hotel!

Room Tip: With a view of beach

My husband and I went from Thursday 08/21 - Sunday 08/24. All Inclusive is definitely the way to go. From the time we checked in until the time we checked out, we did not have one complaint. Everything was great! The staff is always interacting with the guests, making sure they are comfortable and having a good time. The buffet had a big selection and the food was good each time we went. We did not make reservations at any of the restaurants, as we didn't want to be on any "schedule". We just wanted to relax, hang out and eat when we felt like it. There is also an pool bar called Caery that serves hamburgers and hot dogs until 6pm so you don't have to go to the buffet at lunch if you don't want to. Our room was nice, clean and well stocked. It was always restocked and cleaned by the time we came in from the beach/pool in the evenings. Bottom line, this was an AMAZING place to be. We are definitely planning another trip, with our family next time. There was really no reason for us to leave the resort other than we wanted to go check out a few shops - bus stop is in front the resort on the main road - $1 to get on and go anywhere or there are taxi's in the driveway (not pulled up in the front loading/unloading area) - they were just as easy to get a ride with - it's usually a $10 charge for about 15-20 minute ride. Overall we very pleased with Iberostar Cancun.

Stayed as a family of 4 (12 and 10 year old children) 9th to 23rd August.

This is a fantastic hotel and is well worth it’s high marks on this site. Thus far, it’s the only All Inclusive hotel that I’ve visited that I would definitely return to.

Location
The hotel is situated at bottom end of the hotel strip and is an easy 15 minute transfer from Cancun airport. The hotel itself is surrounded by other similar size hotels and it’s about a 10 minute ($1) bus ride to the first shopping mall (Las Isla) and about 20 minutes away from the main night life zone containing Coco Bongo etc. There’s nothing within easy walking distance so if you plan on getting out and about, the bus is your best bet. We used this lots of times and never had a problem.

Reception
The reception is well staffed and efficient. Check in took about 10 minutes and involves the usual form filling and issuing of the dreaded wrist bands. One of our room keys stopped working a couple of times whilst we were there and they fixed it straight away; similarly my sons wrist band was hanging off by the second week and they replaced this with no fuss. Checkout was again very quick and efficient.

Rooms
The majority of rooms are arrayed in an inverted T in the main building. The best rooms (those with the balcony’s) are in the leg of the T with the cheaper (and tiny balcony rooms) being at the top of the T. The villa’s are located off to the right hand side of the pool. We stayed in room 548 which was a small balcony room but luckily enough overlooked the pool and not the roof of the convention centre. The rooms themselves are well appointed and the furniture is in generally good condition. The room has a flat screen TV offering a handful of English speaking channels, coffee machine and a mini bar which contains 8 cans of soft drinks (full fat Coke, Coke Zero, Sprite and 2 cans of fizzy water). As well as the soft drinks it contains 4 bottles of beer and 3 bottles of water. All of these are restocked daily.

For storage, there’s a double wardrobe and a single wardrobe than contains 3 drawers and 3 shelves, one of which holds the safe which is free. The double wardrobe contains 2 bathrobes and the iron/ironing board.

The bathroom is a typical American layout with the sink area being completely separate from the toilet/shower room.

In general the room was great; the AC worked fine and wasn’t unduly loud and the beds were really comfortable. My only complaints would be the pillows are poor (3 per double bed and extremely soft) and the bathroom area was showing signs of wear and tear (few broken/missing tiles and the mirror on the toilet door was peeling at the bottom). The shower was warm but the pressure was pretty poor.

The room was cleaned excellently every day and we never had to report any issues to reception.

It’s definitely worth requesting a higher floor pool side room though as the view is amazing. Looking out over the beautiful sea and pool area from our room was a real highlight. If we do ever come back here, I'll definitely book a room with a full size balcony instead of the tiny one we had this time.

Food
If you’re going AI then this is probably one of your biggest areas for concern and in this the Iberostar scores highly. The hotel offers 4 restaurants of which we ate at 3 (we didn’t fancy the fine dining restaurant). The Mexican restaurant was the only dud for us, it has a wonderful location right on the beach but the food was pretty mediocre. The Steak House is located on the mezzanine level above the lobby bar and offers lovely views over the sea. The food is really good and the steaks are cooked to your liking and are well presented. Finally there’s the Japanese Hibachi restaurant located next to the Steak House. This was our undisputed favourite and offers both a great show from the chefs and excellent food. The meal is Sushi, Tempora Veg then a soup all of which are served while the chef is cooking the main meal. It’s a really nice experience and does stand out. Make sure you ask for a sake :)

The main buffet is brilliant and the best one I’ve ever ate at. For breakfast there’s a selection of cereals, fresh fruit, bread, cheeses, cooked meats, sausages, hash browns etc as well as 3 separate egg stations where you can get your omelettes/fried eggs. There’s also a wide selection of ‘junk’ i.e. pancakes, pastries and freshly cooked doughnuts.

Lunch and dinner buffets are very similar in that they offer a salad bar, a nacho bar (nachos and dips – be careful of the fiery chilli dip!), a Mexican station (fajita’s), a fish station (2 different varieties), a cooked meat station (chicken, pork and beef) and a carving station (roast pork/turkey/beef/lamb). There’s also a pasta station where you can get a pasta meal cooked to order. As well as this they offer a wide selection of choices from the hot trays and these vary from day to day. They offer a wide selection of deserts and cookies and a choice of 3 different ice creams.

For variety, you can eat at the snack bar directly facing the main buffet where they serve burgers/hot dogs or you can take your lunch in the Mexican on the beach (from their buffet). You can also get an Ice Cream Cone from the Mexican Restaurant in the afternoons as well; bit too sweet for me but the kids loved it!

They also cook a delicious sea food paella by the snack bar every second Tuesday where they serve sangria with it.

I have to say the food at the buffet is superb both in variety and flavour. You have to remember that it’s a buffet restaurant and designed to cater for hundreds of people so you’re not going to get a-la-carte. However, it’s tasty, plentiful and there should be enough choice for all. It’s also worth noting that in the whole 2 weeks, none of us got any sort of upset stomach which is a first for us on a AI holiday 

The only negative for us in terms of the food was the service was sometimes hit and miss in the buffet. Being seated was never an issue but we frequently had a long wait for drinks or for additional cutlery when being seated at a partly completed table. This wasn’t just us either, I noticed people on a number of occasions getting their own drinks/cutlery etc. as they got bored of waiting.

Drinks
The drinks are superb. The pool bar was fun but got get crowded (and occasionally rowdy as the day wore on) but the beach bar was usually always empty. You can also get drinks at the Mexican and the Snack Bar during the day both of which were usually empty. The Lobby Bar is a nice place to relax and they serve the most consistent quality of cocktails. The Sports Bar is ok but it’s very long and narrow and feels rather out on a limb. The final main bar is in the main entertainment ‘hut’ and is similar to the Lobby Bar in quality. There’s another bar in the Cigar Lounge but we didn’t go in there.

The drinks are of a really high standard and are not watered down. There’s a wide selection of cocktails (most people seemed to go for the frozen variety during the day) and the beer is good (the Negra beer in particular is nice). If ‘top shelf’ is your thing then there’s a huge selection of branded Whiskey’s/Gin’s/Vodka’s etc.

It’s also worth noting that the wine is by far and away the best I’ve ever had at an AI hotel. They’re served direct from the bottle and they’re very drinkable; the Champagne is also really pleasant.

Service can be hit and miss; some days by the pool we had a server asking us for drinks every 20 minutes or so where as some days we literally never got asked once.

Beach/Pool.
The pool is amazing and a real highlight of the hotel. The pool falls away from the hotel in steps to its lowest level which is the infinity pool and pool bar. There are lots of smaller pools but for the most part they are there for aesthetics. There are 3 pools really, a games pool containing a volleyball net and basketball hoop, a children’s water slide pool and then the main activity pool with the bar. The pool area is beautifully maintained and I can honestly say I’ve never stayed anywhere with a pool as nice (and as warm – it’s like a bath!!). One word of warning, don’t wear anything in the pool with white/cream on it as these colours turn a strange off yellow colour that won’t come out.....

The beach is great with lots of beds and a great view out over the amazing turquoise ocean. The only downside is the sea is too rough to allow swimming/snorkelling. The sand is nice and soft but you can hit the occasional shell fragment which can cut.

In terms of beds around the pool, it’s the same old story I’m afraid... If you want a good bed with shade and a nice view then you have to be prepared to be down with your towels by 7am. If you want a shaded bed and aren’t bothered about location then I would say 7.30am. Any later than that and I’m afraid it’s either fry by the pool in the sun or try and get a shaded bed by the beach. I don’t understand why the hotel have limited the number of shaded beds by the pool; it’s the Caribbean and the sun is extremely strong. In my view every bed should be afforded shade; if cooking is your thing then you just move the bed 2 feet out the shade and away you go.

Entertainment
The Star Friends work 95 hours a week and they are genuinely the nicest entertainment group I’ve ever come across. They’re great during the day offering all manner of activities (shooting/archery/beach football/beach volleyball/darts/bingo/table tennis/aerobics) and there are 2 ‘silly’ pool games each day designed to involve as many people as possible. These are a blast and range from hitting golf balls into a net to volleyball with about 100 water bombs which was absolutely insane (but fun). You don’t have to take part and they don’t pressure you to which makes a very pleasant change.

Of an evening the team hang around in the Lobby Bar chatting to guests and they encourage you to attend the nightly show. The shows themselves range massively in quality and if you go along with realistic expectations you’ll generally have a good time. It’s the same every night though; they have an audience participation game followed by the issuing of certificates for the winners from the day’s activities then an ill fitting short cartoon followed by the ‘big show’. What can’t be faulted is the enthusiasm and unwavering effort that the Star Friends put in; they’re there to make sure you have a good time and enjoy yourself and they do a great job.

We went out quite a few times to the Las Isla mall of an evening as it’s a pleasant place to walk around and there are lots of nice bars (The Lighthouse was our favourite) overlooking the lagoon. It’s particularly nice to be there when the sun goes down.

While we were there the hotel ran a baby turtle release programme on 2 separate nights. We went down for one of these and it is a genuinely lovely thing to do. Be aware though it’s pitch black and a bit chaotic; if your kids are very young you may want to give it a miss. Also, you can’t account for the staggering stupidity of a small number of the other guests. Despite repeated warnings about no flashlight photography as it can blind the turtles some boneheads still use their cameras... One tip here, they let the kids release the turtles but when the kids are done the crowds disappear; if you hang around they let the remaining people (adults included) release those that are left. By then the main crowds (and boneheads) have gone and it’s a far more chilled out experience.

One negative in terms of the evening entertainment is on a number of occasions the hotel allows in market stalls on the walkway that links the hotel to the main buffet restaurant. This in itself wouldn’t be a problem but the sellers are a nuisance and they pester you the whole way down and then whole way back up. There’s also the sad sight of a depressed looking donkey standing there with a false moustache and a sombrero for your ‘authentic Mexican photo needs’. The whole think just seems ill fitting, cheap and out of place for such a lovely hotel.

Other Guests
The hotel (when we were there) was about 70% UK/US/Canadian with the remaining 30% coming from all over the world (as far away as Korea and eastern Europe). In general everyone just seemed happy to be there and have a good time; there were a few groups from the US who got rowdy and very loud in the late afternoon by the pool bar but they never bothered anyone and in the whole time I was there I only saw one guest ‘over do’ it with drink (carried out the pool bar at 2pm....). It’s not a party hotel by any means and is very much family friendly. If being around kids isn’t your thing or you want somewhere with more of a party vibe then you may want to look elsewhere.

Overall
We had a fantastic stay at the Iberostar and should we ever decide to do AI again, there’s nowhere else I’d look. It’s a brilliant resort for families as there’s always something going on. The food and drink are excellent, the pool and beach superb and the hotel is extremely well run and presented. If they gave a good home to the donkey it would be practically perfect!

Room Tip: Go for pool side high floor if staying in the main hotel. Pay more for the balcony!!

We did go into town for some shopping, there is a bus stop directly in front the resort on the main road and there were always taxis waiting near the road as well. We has no problems with the bus or taxis. We will definitely come back to Iberostar Cancun and bring our children for a family trip.

Our first impression of the place was a 10 out 10. The food was always super good; especially the al la carte dinners and we didn't get sick once. Bartenders were efficient, friendly and very personable. Same goes for the entertainment crew, they try to get to know everyone on a personal level and come in each day with tons of enthusiasm. The staff let you know about the events happening without being to pushy or aggressive. It's an all around great atmosphere for all ages, nothing to rowdy but still enough to keep everyone engaged. To top it off it's in a gorgeous location with clean beaches and open views on both sides of the building. I came on a girls trip with my 20 year old friend and never once did we feel unsafe, definitely a great experience!
