Club Med was a resort like no other! It wasn't the rooms or the resort itself, although they were lovely too, it was the people, from the cleaning people, to the security guards, to the GOs to the Chef du Village, it was all very impressively run and the kindness and helpfulness of these people made it what it is. I am going to name just a few of the GOs because they really made our vacation so lovely, Olivier, the Chef, Nikos, both Vanessas, Thiago, Claudia, Marisol, Paola, Alina, Pablo, Valerio, Betina, and many, many more. They work their butts off and it shows. The reason we picked CM is because it is removed from the rest of Cancun, but not too far, that if you want to go it is not difficult. The main part of Cancun reminds me way too much of being someplace in the US, there is an Outback, and KFC and 7-11s, and walmart etc. If I go through the effort of getting passports for my whole family, then I do not want anything that reminds me of the US, when I can go to any of those places on any given day here. CM is completely different, it has a Euro/Mexican feel to it. There were many people visiting from Europe, and Canada, and all the GOs were multi-lingual, and I loved hearing all of the different languages spoken. People have mentioned the food, which I must say I was looking forward to, and it didn't disappoint, in fact it exceeded my expectations, there were so many choices, fish, beef, chicken, pastas, amazing veggies, frites (french fries), pizza, salads, seafood, Asian food, fresh fruit, yogurts, cereals, bread, bread and more bread, and the desserts, just delicious, I am going through withdrawal as we speak. Now for the beach, it was beautiful, and they have the largest beach that I could see on the strip. Not only is the beach large, it also has natural breakers, and therefore the water is very calm, you could walk 100 yards up the beach, and it was a completely different story, it was rough and the beaches small. The snorkeling was great according to my husband who loved going out, he saw squid, lobsters, barracuda, and so many more. I had a massage at the spa, which was amazing, and very professional. The sailing and water skiing was also great, our daughter water skied for the first time and what an experience for her! the kids clubs were wonderful, and very entertaining, especially the teen club, my daughter met kids from all over and will never forget them! It has inspired my kids to go and visit other countries and cultures, now that they have met so many people from far away. We did a couple of excursions too and the locals are so nice and trustworthy, I can't say enough about the people. We will go back for sure, I know this place isn't for everyone, but I think if you give it a chance with an open mind, you will have the vacation of a lifetime, we did!

All inclusive at a bargain price if you wait for last minute rates or a special deal ($150/night for an adult and kid, cheaper than some Marriotts in the US). At some prices I have seen I would probably check out Beaches or another all inclusive, or kick myself for staying here. I realize there is a club med "fraternity" of sorts but it was not so evident here, mostly just a standard all inclusive.

Great location, though not much of a beach left.

Rooms are very basic: ocean view is very humid b/c of ocean breeze, Jade building is the same as other rooms with free booze near room, free Internet, useless room service and vastly superior maid service, apparently now w/ private pool. Lagoon is the same as all the others, just with worse view. The rooms may vary slightly in size, but you would never know it. Everything is very humid all the time, never turn off the AC, you may regret it.

Food was great for an all inclusive. As far as I can tell the food schedule is on a 7 day rotation, as are all activities;if you stay too long it will feel like Groundhog Day, the movie. Clearly designed for one week stays, which I found odd since it had a large European clientèle.

Kids club was a blast for our child. Many of the advertised activities did not take place, but they sailed in the morning and trapeze after. Then it was mostly kid's pool and some TV, with occasional events that were great about half the time and otherwise were clearly done just to kill time or for photo ops. She loved it b/c of the kids she met, not really because it was so great. The GO's who ran the club worked hard and were friendly to the kids but seemed stressed a lot of the time.

GO's are friendly but the joviality can be a bit awkward at times since they are required to perform certain activities; they are all apparently worked very hard.

Lots of activities available and well maintained. GO's were always helpful and knowledgeable in their own area. Downside is that when it is crowded it can be a long wait to use any of the activities.

pros: good buffet food, nice activities, essentially free child care

cons: very basic rooms, kids club wasn't really what was advertised, potentially limited availability of activities

Just returned from the most wonderful week at Club Med Cancun! I traveled with my husband and two daughters, ages 7 and 6. We've stayed twice before at the Club Med Ixtapa but this was our first time at the Cancun location. Here's the thing about any Club Med. The longer you are there, the more it grows on you and the more you love it. Always the first day or two, I'm sitting back comparing and scrutinizing everything. You have to check your snobbery at the front door and just go with it! The GO's are the most friendly group of people you will ever meet and you won't find anyone quite like them at any other resort. They absolutely make the "Club Med Experience" so don't be shy and get to know a few of them.

The food was absolutely fantastic! We had high expectations since we loved the food in Ixtapa, and Cancun was just as good. They vary the food every single night so you will not be bored. Our favorite was the sushi which was featured on 3 of the evenings and the desserts are absolutely amazing. We ate lunch every day at their other restaurant located on the other side of the resort, next to the sailing activities. They had wonderful salads and fresh fish every day.

The location of this resort is incredible. It has absolutely the best location of any resort in Cancun, located at the end of "hotel row" just on the tip of the peninsula. Because of this, the snorkeling was very good. Every day, we saw loads of boats with tourists from other hotels just off of our shores partaking in snorkeling they paid a lot of money to do that Club Med guests can do for free. We didn't go sailing but tried Kayaking. My husband and I also tried water skiing which was very fun, although the fact that it took place in crocodile infested lagoon freaked me out a bit. Apparently, there is no history of a croc attacking a water skier yet so this gave me a little relief. We also played tennis several times. There is so much to do here, if you are bored, there's something wrong with you. The best part is that everything is included. Most resorts would charge a lot of extra money for these same water activities. Considering this, I think Club Med is a very good value.

We were very pleased with the rooms and preferred them to Ixtapa. The girls got their own room, identical to ours. They were very spacious, beautifully decorated and the air conditioning worked great.

The mini club was great for the kids. The first two days, the girls refused to go which was fine by us. Wednesday was the kids Hip Hop Show which the girls wanted to be in so they went to mini-club all day so they could practice for the show. After that, my older daughter wanted to be in mini-club every day. I hardly have any pictures of her on the last few days of our vacation. Our younger daughter preferred to stay with us but that was no surprise to us, she loves hanging out with mom and dad. A big "thank you" to the mini-club GO's. I think they have the hardest job in the whole village, working from morning till night with the little ones. They are absolutely incredible.

On another note, the day before we left was the re-opening of the Jade building which is their concierge building. They built a brand-new pool, very luxurious, that is only open to Jade guests. Not sure what the upgrade would be but it might be worth looking into. The Jade building is right on the tip of the peninsula, fantastic spot and the pool looked amazing.

We just got back from Club med Cancun and it was AMAZING!
They've just finished renovating the village and it looks great. The staff are really nice and friendly. The advantage of their location is that they have two beaches, one on the east side where you can snorkel on the Caribbean coral barrier and one on the north side where you can enjoy the beautiful turquoise water. Most rooms have a view of the water, wether it is the ocean or lagoon.
I suggest taking the local bus R-1 or R-2 to get to town or shopping centers. It only cost 1$ us. or 7.5 pessos. 1$=12.8 pessos. so if you pay in pessos you pay half price.
I also suggest getting of the bus at Playa Tortuga and take the ferry to Isla Mujeres for 15$ a person. Just make sure that it is a yellow and blue ferry and not the white ferry. The yellow one goes at twice the speed and has a/c at bottom deck. 20 minutes per crossing, last one back is at 5:30 pm. (don't miss it!)
Bargain like crazy when you're shopping on the island, start at 30% of asking price and pay a max of 50% of asking price. Unless you really have to have it, then pay a little more. Take the snorkel trip that they offer on the island with the included lunch and you will not regret it, 20$ per person and the fishes are plenty.
At last go back to your Hotel at the end of the day with a smile on your face from ear to ear. Sit back, relax and order a Tulum breeze and enjoy!!!

Club Med is very simplistic in rooms but being Mexico, Cancun, Yucatan Peninsula, snorkeling, day trip to local shops, all fantastic, especially during February, when you're from New England.
