Top notch service, wonderful hospitality, luxurious accommodations .. Paradise. We stayed in the Jade (5 trident space). Well worth the extra money. The GO team was fantastic, attentive, funny, personable .. Overall experience: dream vacation. Will definitely come back!

Went to Cancun for a week starting the Sat of Labor Day weekend. Opted for the Jade area and couldn’t

have been happier with it.

First the Pros: Jade is gorgeous and with low occupancy we had the large infinity pool nearly to ourselves, 95% of the GOs were just super and made our 4 year old feel like a star. In particular the Mini Club team deserves 6 out of 5 stars. I wouldn’t hesitate to follow Noemi and Jeff and the others to another mini club. The Jade accommodations were lovely (had a two room suite). Wifi at Jade was pretty good, too. Las Casuelas had good food. All the local staff, including the security guys every 25 yards or so, were quite friendly. Water ski staff were very nice to my wife and very encouraging. And the Aussie/Texan couple who manned the trapeze were so friendly and enthusiastic.

Cons: food at the buffet was meh, had to search for anything really good (and there were a few winners). With a 4 year old, only being able to go to dinner at 7pm just doesn’t work. Of course, on the last day Jeff the Chef du Village told us we could have gone to La Pergola between 4 and 7 and ordered anything off the menu. Nice to know, on the last day L We also had to make reservations for dinner at the steak house and the Mexican place every day despite the resort being booked only ~35%. Um, why?

Jade

From the moment we were greeted, we felt so much at home. Nadege, Ann Marie and Eduardo, were just terrific. Lovely modern rooms, big balcony, large closets, great shower, massive tub, comfy bed, dehumidifier and large flat screen? All great. The grounds were immaculate. Being at the very edge of the 24KM hotel zone, Jade felt like a private resort. The fully stocked bar poolside with hot and cold running premium drinks (included) all day and a repertoire of snacks after 5 was a very nice added bonus. The room service menu was limited but available nearly all day which definitely helped when hunger struck. Note, though that Jade is about as far from the mini-club as one can get. I think I walked miles each day going back and forth. But when your walk is surrounded by iguanas and very friendly staff, all good.

Food

Las Casuelas offered a yummy set of alternatives. We had both the buffet and the sit down there and it was quite good. Had read reviews of La Pergola and was frankly surprised at the quality of the steak – not Ruth Chris, but not Outback either. The buffet serves its purpose with a very wide assortment of everything you could ask for including of course a bread and dessert chef. I mentioned an allergy to shrimp and the head chef tracked me down to inquire and point me in the right direction. The continental breakfast delivered to your Jade room (I think $4 delivery charge) was exactly what we needed.

Activities.

What is there not to do? Every day we swam in the multiple pools and gorgeous ocean. Waterskiing, windsurfing (on dated equipment), kayaking, tennis, ping pong, Hobie cats, basketball, a moderately well equipped freezing cold gym (with lots of classes), trapeze… You can’t get bored here unless you try.

Mini-Club

Our four year old has done kids clubs elsewhere and was skeptical. But the GOs just put so much love on him, it was wonderful. Face painting, swimming, sand castles, trapeze, trampoline, reading, quiet time, meals together, “talent” shows and events. Could not ask for more your kids to have fun. Our son made friends with kids from France, New York… As he said, easy peasey.

Wifi

For geeks like me having robust wifi (included in our package) at Jade was helpful. Could easily surf the web. And using a 3rd party VPN software, he could watch his cartoons when he wanted. I heard wifi is not so speedy elsewhere

Quick travel notes

At the airport you will be accosted by official looking greeters who demand to see your transfer. If
you’ve arranged for transport through Club Med (and you should), ignore them and go find your service
outside. If you want to go to Coba or Tulum or Playa Del Carmen, renting a car is easy and cost us $100 for the day. (Can be arranged on site). And if you want to go the hotel zone for dinner (we ate happily at La Destilleria), a $20 20 minute cab ride can be arranged.

When you want to go do an activity (eat, movie…) go and ask the times of the people there. We had
so many instances of “oh yes, it’s open at 6:30” only to get there to find that the actual times were different.

A shout out to TravelWorld in Santa Barbara who arranged the trip and answered my 2010 questions.
Kudos to Tanya B.

One final final comment. Jade rocked. Made for a terrific lux vacation by a gorgeous sea.

Room Tip: Jade if you can afford it. Otherwise troll the boards.

My family does a lot of vacations, and this was one of the best in years, perhaps the best. I have been to other Club Med's (in April was at Turks) and several times to Punta Cana (and St. Lucia years back). This resort had superior service compared to the other Club Med's. There was free drink service on the beach and in the resturants they would get any drink requested (at others you have to get it, or they bring wine to your table). At the bar, despite the resort being at half capacity, there were multiple bartenders. As a comparison, during the night club in Turks there would be 3 bartenders and it would be a short wait, at Cancun they had 6 and no wait at all. Service was top notch at the resort. At the resort we water skied, wakeboarded, sailed, wind surfed, snorkeled, played boche, soccer and did the trapeze and all equipment and GO's were very good. The room was better than expected, with a small balcany (at Turks there is no balcany). We have also been to Beaches multiple times, and while Beaches is a bit more upscale and Scuba is included, the friendliness of the staff at Club Med is unmatched. We went for 5 days. It rained a lot, but it was still great. They let us release newly hatched sea turtles into the ocean one night. Mexican night they brought in vendors, a Mariache (sp?) band and a mechanical bull. Snorkeling onsite we saw many fish, an octopus and a large Ray, however overall snorkeling was just ok as the reef is kind of beat up. Perfect location in Cancun with the swimming beach protected by land on the side so it was nice and calm. Never a reason to leave the resort over 5 days (other than a walk down the beach) and spent no additional money. On this trip we had 13 of us and everyone had an excellent time.

Jeff SABAPATHY (Chief) and the Leisure Manager (Nadedge) have a great team!!! My favorite team was the wind surfing team (Cassey D., Brit, Mao Julio and Mario) .. .great instructors, fun people. Betinha's laugh is hysterical and worth at least one trip on the flying trapeze. Even the restaurant personnel where extremely attentive (Tony, Cealy et al). Julie and Paula at reception provided me with an umbrella and humor when it began to rain. I had been to that resort 12 times before when it was an adult only village and once before as a family village. It is well maintained. I observed constant maintenance and detailed repairs going on. My room was clean and I had plenty of towels. Jinn (Fitness) will work hard even if you are the only one in his class. Joe and Josh are entertaining. Great food selection!

Room Tip: I stayed between the wind surfing and the main restaurant. You may ask to stay closer to the tennis...

Returned about a week ago from a vacation at Club Med Cancun and we had a wonderful time. The activities there just can't be beat - we had a fantastic time trying out everything we possibly could (only thing we missed was tennis - we're not morning people and it just got so hot!). The location is also amazing - being on the corner of the hotel zone means they have a HUGE beach area, and plenty of room for their own snorkeling, sailing, kayaking, and windsurfing.

The only downsides to our trip were A. the number of children at the Cancun resort and B. taking several days to figure out the swing of the club med experience! Once we did, it was great - meeting G.O.s from all over and hearing about their experiences was great. I want to give a shout out to Stacy and Chad from circus for convincing us to even try trapeze (only took three days) and for being generally awesome people! We had a great time with them and were lucky to get to know and hang out with them!! Another shout out to them and the rest of the circus team for being wonderful with trapeze classes as well and also FANTASTIC performers. The circus show was by far our favorite :)

Miss it already and can't wait for our next club med trip!

the resort is fantastic. it is located on some of the best real estate in Cancun. it is away from the mess of downtown and the pesky sales people. this resort has its own coral reef that you can kayak and snorkel. it has exercises. it has its own lake with water skiing and all activities are totally free.
the beach is fantastic. you never run out of a drink not even on the beach. your drinks are refreshed as soon as they are empty. the sunsets are spectacular and the whole resort has an European almost Greek flavor to it. the GO's are everywhere and they are not really attendants or servants. they are really host friends that not only get you everything you need to make you comfortable but they even have dinner and conversation with you.
the food was fresh and plenty and the reservation restaurant was exquisite. lobster steak and seafood galore. and killer desserts. and the buffet, was fantastic and not boring like many other buffets in other places.

now the bad:

the rooms were clean and well appointed. but it was humid and musty all week inside the room even with the air conditioner running. even some of my clothes were still humid when i got home. incredible. they are going to have to put some money in updating the ventilation systems. something with dehumidifiers built in like hospitals

some areas of the hotel are showing their time. i know what it is to have a property in the ocean like that. the ocean is cruel to things and surfaces. the place could use a couple of millions on it. new furniture on the outside areas and lounge chairs. and the swimming pool can be renovated as well it is bland and white. some granite borders and a water feature will spruce it up.

the las olas restaurant which is a barbecue lunch place is horrible. the food was always cold and the service horrible. and when you eat you have these giant iguanas waiting for seconds. i mean huge iguanas and they are not even colorful, they are the ugliest creatures in the world. the theater can use paint, chairs new music system and more modern curtains and lights. i mean the theatre just sucks.

las cazuelas, the fancy reservation place is beautiful and so is the buffet. i had 90% of my meals at the buffet. beautiful nice warm and good service. i went to las cazuelas once and i regret not going twice. it was fantastic. now the iguana barbecue place was dead to me. it could also use a couple of half millions in furnishings as well. the chairs there are kind of skanky and showing their age.

the drinks were available all the time but were very watery on the alcohol. ask for a shot of alcohol on the side with your drink. add it in and then the drinks will be complete. i had mostly beer and wine since they cannot be watered down.

besides that the place is beautiful, very clean indeed and it has an atmosphere that i cannot explain but i already reserved again.

Room Tip: dont take the jade building. it is fancy and private but the pool is tiny and the beach they have i...
