“Outstanding meal service at Beach Club”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014

You have two options at this hotel, main hotel or Royal Beach Club. I stayed at the Royal Beach Club, and enjoyed two perks which are not part of the regular hotel offerings. You pay a little more, but the price is worth it. Between 6am and 11:30 am the dining room is open for a free breakfast. This is a real breakfast including french toast or pancakes on alternate days, eggs, meat, potatoes, yogurt, assorted cheeses and pastries, cold or hot cereal, and lots of fruit. The works. Two outstanding servers, Marco and Bernardo keep the coffee coming, and tend to your every need. From 6pm to 8pm is the free happy hour, unlimited drinks made to order, and hors d'oeuvres. The rooms are quite large, all have balconies. Water is provided free of charge. The only drawback is the shower stall is small.

We are staying next door at the Raintree Club Regina where the entire staff is marvelous, kind, professional, helpful and friendly. We walked over to the Westin adjacent to our hotel and asked the Concierge for directions to the Sea and Stones restaurant, and she was very rude and surly. I am not certain why she is working as a concierge, it is definitely not a good fit. She has short, honey blonde hair with large brown square framed glasses. She was working at 7pm on Friday March 28th. Beware--she is not helpful. The restaurant Sea and Stones was fabulous!

We only stayed one night here but the hotel is nice and a great spot on the beach. The pool area is great and the room was comfy and clean. The only downside to our stay is that I got food poisoning from the dinner buffet and had a extremely painful 20 hour flight back to Australia. I think I may have been unlucky, I would still stay back at this hotel again if I returned to cancun but I would be careful what I ate!

For our second trip in as many years, we once again chose the Westin Resort & Spa. This time we upgraded to their Royal Beach Club annex as those rooms are all guaranteed to have private balconies. (Regular rooms at the Westin only have balconies/patios if you stay on the top or bottom floors.) The RBC rooms also included a breakfast buffet and happy hour. This was perfect for my wife and me as we prefer to explore the area every day and avoid being trapped on a single property as often happens when travelling to an all-inclusive resort.

Our 5th floor lagoon side room was great and the sunsets from the balcony were priceless. The happy hour was also excellent (thanks Mariel!) and a handy way to get started before an evening out on the town.

The Westin is particular good for those of us who like to ride Cancun's excellent bus system. It's located at the south end of both hotel zone routes (R1 & R2)-- right at the bus turn-around. For those wondering, Cancun's bus system is AWESOME, safe, and dirt cheap.

Room Tip: Book a Royal Beach Club room if you must have a balcony or patio.

A friendly welcome and good experience from check -in. Large, clean room, super comfortable bed and view over the ocean. Staff were friendly from poolside, restaurants and bar to the spa facilities. A more adult orientated hotel which suited me fine. Friends were staying in the resort next door so was convenient to catch up with them when I wanted the "family" experience but easy to have my quiet time at The Westin. Bus stop into town is conveniently located, and a quick ride to many shopping areas, ferry to Isla Murjeres etc. I'll definitely be coming back. Not a loud party hotel - but convenient to other venues if you are looking for nightclubs.

Room Tip: I would try to get a room with a balcony, will try for the Royal Beach Club next time.

This hotel is at the far end if the strip so there is not the party atmosphere on the beach. We loved it because the beach in front if the hotel was perfect not rocky and on somewhat of a proctetected cove. The staff was exceptionally friendly. We will come back to this hotel again!

My family of 4 used points to book a room and got upgraded to the Royal Beach club. We have young kids (1 + 4) and staying in the Royal Beach club is a huge bonus as the hotel charges USA prices for food and drink (and does everywhere else if you haven't been before). The beach club provides free breakfast, water / coffee all day and appetizers and alcoholic drinks in the evening. The breakfast is really good and offers very healthy thro to fried stuff. The hotel is not a top end luxury hotel but it's all in good working order and having a balcony was nice. We could put kids to bed and read a book until they were asleep (the acoustics mean convo needed to be quiet).

The hotel is on my favorite beach on earth (and I've been to a lot of them!). We went early March, 2014 prior to Spring break and never had any issue getting loungers with an umbrella. The hotel is towards the end of the hotel zone and a little walk down the beach finds a rocky outcrop that breaks the waves and is perfect for snorkeling. My 4 year old swam with me, shallow, gentle, warm and plenty of fish, including a big ol' parrot fish. The beach is created from coral and therefore cool underfoot.

There are a number of dining options, all of which where good. If you are looking for more options I recommend the bus. Although not a designated bus stop, all the R1 + R2 buses will pick you up from the turning point just outside the hotel. The R1 + R2 run up and down the hotel zone and cost $1 each way (or 9.5 pesos). There is a Walmart if you want to pick up cheapest groceries, lot's of OXO's for minor groceries, usually with a pharmacy. There are a few shopping malls, some very modern and some not, La Isla is nice, equivalent in look and price to USA. Bus can also take you to the ferry terminal to journey to Isla Mujeres for a day trip. The Tortuga stop has a bar and an interesting bungee jump to keep you entertained.

If you have a car you can do trips cheaper and pay at the door. If you don't, the hotel will organize day trips for you to the parks and Mayan ruins, all are great (not cheap). Xel Ha is like Discovery Cove in FL and all inclusive and highly recommend if you like snorkeling and exploring (my 4 year old loved it). Xcaret is more of an eco park with chance to swim in lazy river. Haven't done Xplor but would like to. Tulum is the closet Mayan ruin and has a beach if you fancy a dip, lot's of people do. Chichen Itza is a pretty amazing place to visit and the guided tours are excellent, really bring it to life. We didn't do it this time due to the journey time (3+ hours each way). Note: you are not allowed you to climb it anymore.

Things to note:
- book airport transport through hotel $35 vs taxi $68
- the hotel next door has noisy entertainment on Wednesday evenings, ends about 10pm
- use the bus R1+R2 to get around, much cheaper than taxi's

Enjoy, it's a beautiful place :)

Room Tip: I would book all inclusive if poss or try and get into the Royal Beach club.
