“LIFE BECOMES A WONDERFUL GETAWAY AT DREAMS RESORT CANCUN”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2012

This was our sixth visit visit to what we call our home away from home: Dreams Resort & Spa Cancun. It is the perfect family resort. -- perfect location on a beautiful point. It has one beach on the bay side and another beach on the ocean side, which usually has larger waves. We feel the resort is the perfect size -- not so big that you would get exhausted trying to get around.
The whole staff -- from the cleaning people to the front desk to management etc. -- is marvelous. The staff makes each guest feel special from the moment you arrive until you leave. EVERYONE is eager to please!! They are excellent at solving any problem that might come up.
The wonderful atmosphere begins at the top with the gracious general manager, Mr. Alexandre De Brouwer, who sets the mood and keeps the hotel functioning as a cohesive family. We love it because there is very little staff turnover and you always have the feeling that you are home again.
Now for a more detailed review: When you arrive, you are greeted by either Oscar, Juan, Roger, Primo,Leonardo, Alberto or one of the other porters. They make you feel like you are home and will make sure your bags are delivered promptly.
Then you head to the front desk. As you approach , you are greeted by a gentleman with a cold towel ( during the day ) and a beverage. The front desk staff is exceptional in taking care of your room needs. Esteban, Victoria, Lupita, Karen, Diana and the rest of the staff will help you with all your needs. Anett Ortiz is the room division manager and is there to help and solve any issues. Jacqueline and the concierge staff is always there when any assistance is needed.
The food and service throughout the resort is excellent. I feel that if you cannot find something to eat that pleases you here, you would not find it anywhere in Cancun. First place to get a snack in the morning with your coffee is the Coco Cafe. It is opened from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. You can find a snack anytime of the day there. You'll be greeted by either Luis, Heriberto or Domingo. You'll always receive service with a smile. They have delicious muffins, cookies , pastries etc. They have many specialty coffees -- hot and cold-- and wonderful smoothies. We always stop there in the evening for my favorite after-dinner snack : tartaletas de frutas -- a baked shell with vanilla pudding covered with fresh fruit --- absolutely delicious !!!
The World Cafe is excellent for all of your meal choices (breakfast, dinner or supper). Eladio is the breakfast and lunch captain and Mindy and the other hostesses are terrific. The waiters Victor,Hugo, Clemente, Manuel , Abraham, Carlos, Roberto,Luis, Miguel,Francisco, Paulino and Hector are all terrific. Hugo makes the best eggs in town on the grill. Sergio and Aaron make great side dishes. All of the buffets are great and there is an excellent assortment of foods to choose from. At lunch ,we suggest trying the pasta bar at least once .It is excellent!! The evening staff is also excellent and they do various themed nights in the evening. The food is always excellent.
Next ,the Oceana is another restaurant that you can go to for lunch or supper. Sergio, the captain ,and Ana the hostess will greet you with a smile and make you feel at home. The staff is very sociable and eager to please and the food is excellent . Also the location is excellent with a great view of the bay. A few of our favorite meals are the stuffed grouper and the filet mignon with shrimp.
The Himitzu oriental restaurant is opened for supper only. It has many types of sushi and various oriental dishes. The choices are many and the service is excellent. We eat there once or twice each visit. The host and hostess are excellent . Memo is our favorite waiter.
Next, is the Seaside Grille. It is at the far end on the ocean side after the tower building. It is opened for lunch and dinner. However, it is adults only for supper. We have never tried it for lunch, however friends we have met say it is excellent for lunch. Jesus is the captain and Sylvia is the hostess . They are always friendly and make you always feel at home. Angel, Jesus, Juan ,Christian and all of the rest of the staff provide excellent service and the food is excellent. A couple of our favorites are the grilled salmon and the cinnamon steak (might sound yucky but it is terrific). I also love their pea soup and my wife loves their blueberry cheesecake for dessert.
Finally the Paloma Bonita just outside of Dreams Resort is included now. You need to get reservations the day you want to go beginning at 9:00 a.m. with the concierge near the Avis car rental. The concierge, Estela Medela, is in charge of reservations. Estela is wonderful to deal with and is willing to help with any of your needs our questions. This you must do at least once. The authentic Mexican decor and atmosphere is terrific . The food is excellent and the staff is very friendly and eager to please.
The entertainment staff headed by Saul is terrific at providing various activities throughout the day and evening .His staff which consists of Mini Me, Benito, Allison, Manuel, Channel , Itzel and Adrian are all very friendly and sociable. We learned how to make authentic Mexican Guacamole from Chef "Mini Me " and his assistant. It was a great lesson -- fun and informational. Now we can make our own Guacamole in the states . Also, the entertainment in the evening, which the hotel provides, is very good. There are various theme nights. Our two favorites are the Mexican show and the Fire & Ice Show . They also have the Desires Night Club, which has a different activity every night.
A little known treasure that the resort has is the Solo Bucco Activities Shack. It is located on the bay side across the path from the dolphin pool. It provides guests with snorkels, masks, fins, floats, life vests and kayaks to use free-of-charge. David is in charge of the shack and does a great job. They also offer various excursions at very reasonable prices. I have been on at least 10 snorkeling trips with them to the nearby reef and all of the trips have been superb. We saw plenty of different fish. It takes about 5 minutes to get to the reef and you snorkel for about 50 minutes. We also booked para-sailing through them and that was marvelous. You could go up 2 people at a time -- so my wife even tried it with me. We both loved it !!!! What sights !!!!! David and his staff are very sociable and make all the guests feel special. Booking an activity with them is a wise choice and the price is always fair. When you see David, tell him Lalo sent you.
I must give thanks to Raul, who is the manager of all the bars. He makes sure that everything runs smoothly. He oversees not only the bars, but all of the bartenders at various functions.
The Barracuda Bar seems to be where a lot of action is during the day and evening. Frodo, Rogelio, Domingo and all of the bartenders and waiter-staff provide excellent service and they are lots of fun. The service on the beach is fantastic. All of the beach waiters work very hard and they are eager to please and very friendly. During our 6 trips to Dreams Resort, we have become very friendly with Alberto and Jorge. We marvel at how well they do their job. You can even order food from the Snack Shack through your beach waiter and have it delivered to you at your beach chair.
The Snack Shack has another great bar. It's by the pool. The whole staff there is also wonderful.( I apologize for not remembering all of their names --- I do talk to all of them every day.) The cook is fantastic -- his grouper sandwich on a croissant with patatas fritas is a must-have.
The Spa at the resort is a fantastic place to get refreshed and re-charged. Adrian, Roccio or Christopher will set you up for any service you choose. The Spa is on the expensive side. However, they do run specials or you can use some of your resort discount coupons. The 80 minute Swedish couples massage outside in the huts is a magical experience -- with the breeze and the sound of the waves. AAAHHHHH !!!!! Liz, Naty and all of the Spa staff are magnificent. I recommend that if you want to be pampered and have a great experience --- treat yourself to a service at the Spa. You will not be disappointed.
We stay in a room in the pyramid-- on the ocean side. We find the view amazing and it's quiet ( except for the sound of the waves -- which we love. )
The housekeepers do a wonderful job. The room is made up twice a day. Special thanks to Leiber. He was our housekeeper the last 2 visits and he was terrific. Our evening housekeeper ,Tomasa, was also terrific.
Tips are included. However, I recommend that you tip something extra anyway. We always do. The people work SO hard and are SO gracious that we feel they deserve extra.
In conclusion, I would like to say that it is an older resort with lots of charm. They work at keeping up the resort. Dreams Resort is a top-notch destination because of the excellent leadership and staff.

I booked Dreams Cancun for three days after reading all these wonderful reviews. May 12 to May 15,2012. This was by far the DIRTIEST resort ever. The tiny pool is GREEN! It had a layer of film across the top..GROSS. Garbage everywhere. The staff would empty old drinks out on the pool deck to bake in the sun before picking them up! The beach cove area they made, looked in pictures to be beautiful blue water.Think again its lagoon water shared with the dolphin tank. Bird poop everywhere, no one cleaning it. I had an ocean view room and thats the only good thing i can say.(NICE VIEW) The beach takes 10 minutes to get to the water and it rips your feet up getting there. no chairs or drinks of any kind. by the water. In closing i demanded a refund and got the hell out of there. HOW ANY PERSON CAN SAY THIS HOLE IS LUXURY IS SERIOUSLY CRAZY. Save your money better off at a hojo!.I have pics if i can figure out how to add to post. and the 1 star is for the room view and pretty dolphins so close

Fourth time to Dreams preferred club. Service is always great. Always feel safe enough to walk or take taxi down town. No towel games or bracelets. Everyone is so nice..."My pleasure"! We took glass bottom boat to the island to snorkel and saw all kinds of fish. Usually travel at Easter when there is more going on at hotel as entertainment and restaurants go therefore it is very quiet this time. I would give hotel a five if the rooms were upgraded like Dreams Riviera, one room was renovated but our other was old but we still prefer Cancun for the beach and location. Wonderful service!

Room Tip: Preferred club tower for quiet and relaxing time.

Location - Prime if you want to go to the night clubs!
Hotel - Needs a renovation but rooms were clean, beds were comfortable.
Food & Drinks- Average, if you wanted really nice wine you had to pay extra which I find odd
for a resort advertising "Undefined Luxury"
Did not see much salsa/guacamole which is usually everywhere at a Mexican Resort
Staff - Average
Pool - way too small
Beach - nice but small, water floats and kayaks were readily available
Decent place, better than some but definately not "Undefined Luxury"
I have stayed at those places and this doesn't compare!

Room Tip: do not get a room overlooking the dolphin experience! they are quite noisy at night! the oceanview...

We stayed at Dreams Cancun from May 2 - 9, 2012 and there's nothing negative to be said about this resort. The staff were beyond accommodating and the restaurants had amazing food. A definite highlight is the Entertainment Team consisting of Beni, Allison, Manual, Minime, Saul, Itzel, Channelle and Adrian. Each day they led activities by the pool and made everyone feel not just like a guest, but a friend. I looked forward to waking up each day to see what the team was up to. They were some of the hardest working people I've ever met and I will never forget each and every one of them!!

The servers and bartenders also very amazing and kind.

Reading some of the below reviews, there are complaints about the age of the hotel. Yes, it is one of the first hotels built on the Cancun strip but the resort grounds are still absolutely gorgeous. Buildings are not invincible, wear and tear is only natural. You have a choice of two beaches, both of which you can be served drinks and meals all day. One is a bit louder and the other one is more quiet and you can choose depending on your preference.

This hotel is located two blocks from the club strip, so you don't even need to take a cab to go venture out to the town.

Would I come back to Dreams Cancun? YES YES YES YES....I will definitely also try other Dreams Resorts as this vacation went above and beyond my expectations.

Room Tip: I stayed at the Deluxe Dolphin and Ocean Front View. I really enjoyed waking up to the dolphins and...
