“Our 25th”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2013

From the moment we arrived until we had to depart, we were in awe of the excellent level of service provided by the Ladies and Gentleman of the RC.

Antonio's concierge services were flawless. He handled all of our special requests & provided us with such a detailed itinerary upon check-in, it made each day so worry free.

The staff at the beach villas could not have been more eager to please. Claudia, with her army of towels & smiling face, always made sure we were comfortable. Victor & Sergio provided such an attentive food and beverage service each day in the beach villas. So relaxing!

The highlight of our stay was our anniversary dinner in the Casitas. It was truly a memorable experience! Moses could not have made us feel more special & so warmly embraced the milestone we were celebrating.

We thoroughly enjoyed the tequila tasting. We were educated & it gave us a much better appreciation of all the different types of tequila on the market.

Our dinner with Chef Carlos, with his explanation and presentation of each course, was perfect. And the wines selected to accompany each dish were fabulous. His genuine warmth made us feel like we were old friends dining in his home.

We did not book a club level room, but our ocean front one bedroom suite was fabulous. With 3 balconies & 1 1/2 bathrooms, it was more space than the we could have ever imagined.

If you are looking for an easily accessible & special getaway, this is the place. While others have commented on the tired aspect of the hotel, I can see their point but I don't agree. If the hotel was re-done like the RC Puerto Rico, the price point would not be the same. This hotel offers the level of service one would expect from the RC & offers a great value - sun, warm weather, spacious accommodations...what more could one want. Relax & enjoy!

Great customer service, attention to the details, respect. On the last day of our stay, right before we went back to the airport, our family was complimented, thanked for our stay, and wished a safe return home by hotel management. Another example was making a "moonlight path" for us projecting a light into the ocean while we were dinning in a casita.

Extremely helpful and highly professional staff. They are eager to assist in providing advice and recommendations on where to visit and what to avoid. Security is excellent - we always felt safe. Rooms are impeccable and cleaning staff are very considerate if you want to sleep in late. The gym and pools are very clean and in excellent condition. There is no lap pool but I was able to get in a workout as it was never crowded. The beach is perfectly pristine and beautiful but it can get windy and the water can be choppy. Avoid ordering evening room service as it's pricey for what you get. Check out the convenience store in nearby Kukulcan Plaza for small/quick snacks, etc. There are a variety of high quality restaurants that are worth dining at and are at a walking distance. Harry's is a great steakhouse and if you want typical Mexican cuisine definitely try La Habichuela. When visiting downtown Cancun, I wasn't crazy about Mercado 28 as you can find similar deals at La Isla mall without the hassle of bartering. No need to take a taxi to this mall. A bus is much cheaper. However, we did rent a car to to go into downtown Cancun as taxis are very expensive with a standard rate no matter where you go. One little gem that we found in downtown was La Parilla that has an amazing and authentic Mexican buffet.

Room Tip: For what you will be spending, make sure you get an oceanfront view from the 5th floor and up. Your...

We traveled here on a whim with our 4 year old, another couple, and their son one cold New York winter. The Ritz is and has always been a stately and majestic hotel. For those who prefer more modern architecture or a stronger connection to nature this is not the place. We stayed at the club level where the service and check in are impeccable. They even go out of their way to make the kids feel welcome with little backpacks filled with goodies for each of them and a lovely welcome cake for our son with a traditional mexican toy in our room when we checked in. They also gave us a bottle of champagne for our arrival. Just lovely service.

The pool is lovely, if you have strong swimmers. Otherwise you may be a little nervous about the drop off and on constant watch - so bring floating devices. The beach is completely unswimmable, even for wading in with your toes. The current will sweep you right out by your ankles - and this isn't an exaggeration. Unfortunate because kids LOVE the water and the draw of the ocean, but this isn't a swimmable beach so beware.

The crowd is a bit older and next door there is a bit of a party hotel with drinking by the pool and a Spring Break kind of feel.

The palapas and food are lovely, although not the best we've had in the area. The concierge and attendants truly made us feel warm, welcome and special. But the unfortunate location of the beach and lack of families and young couples, made it feel a little too ghost town for us.

Room Tip: Stay in the Club Suites and request an OCEAN view, over a pool or garden view on a higher floor. You...

I enjoyed my stay at the Ritz, though it, and Cancun, are everything I try to avoid in a resort.
Cancun resembles the tackiest part of Miami and even predominant language of both is Spanish. Like Miami, Cancun also has the world’s worst immigration, with intolerably long lines.
The Ritz is a big formal old building with 375 rooms, built in the style of the original Boston Ritz plunked on a wide white beach. With the sea beyond.
The building and the rooms are totally devoid of anything to indicate it or you are in Mexico.
The property is 20 years and management has said all will be redone in 2014. It is in need of it
Eating tacos at Casitas, or on the sand at the beach was the high point of the stay, though breakfast buffets were world class.
The club level was spacious and there seemed to be ever changing snacks available most of the day. Very pleasant.
The building was deigned with airy lobby and central core that makes one fell expansive but the corridors to the rooms were LONG.
The staff took what would have been to me a drab experience and lifted it to the cloud. They were very friendly, very accommodating and always made me feel welcome, though at times they came over as slightly obsequious. The staff is always to me the sign of good ever present management..
Bottom line, if one chooses to try the beach in Cancun, they should Put on the Ritz.

I have stayed at this property twice now. In June 2012 my then-six-year-old son and I spent four nights here. I booked via Fine Hotels and Resorts and got a good off-season rate with the fourth night free. In August of 2013 we returned, this time with my husband and six-month-old daughter. This time I booked via my Ritz Carlton Visa and utilized one of the three annual club-level upgrade certificates that are included.

Both times we enjoyed our vacation. The food on the club level was delicious, though since we stayed 7 nights the second time we began to see repetition after the five-day rotation began again. The pool was never crowded and the beach very nice if choppy. My son went to the kids' club for two days during our first stay -- they kept him busy with crafts, swimming, face painting, etc. even though he was the only kid there one day. We both enjoyed the baby turtle releases every sunset during our August visit.

Both times I pre-booked car service through USA Transfers, which were safe, affordable, and professional.

My family of four just returned from Thanksgiving week at the Ritz Carlton Cancun. The hotel is modern, having been rebuilt after Hurricane Wilma. We stayed in the Ocean View Suite, two adjoining rooms with a central living area. The rooms were superb, exactly what you expect at the Ritz. The balconies were a little small, with four people on one balcony a squeeze. We stayed on the 8th floor, with the lounge. The lounge and private concierge service were worth the extra cost.

The two pools are marginal, no swim up bars and nothing fun. The ocean the week we stayed was very rough, with limited swimming possible. The high winds also meant that parasailing and jet skiing activities were either not possible at all or highly curtailed.

The casitas on the beach are available for an extra $125 for the day and we enjoyed them three days. They easily accommodate a family of four, providing protection from the sun and wind. Service was excellent. I especially enjoyed getting to know some of the Mayan staff members and learning about their culture. The staff overall are fabulous.

Food is very high quality and expensive. We took advantage of the Amex dining plan and had a late breakfast daily at Café Mexicano. Dining outdoors on the terrace was great. I recommend the fresh lobster quesadillas! I recommend NOT having a private casita for dinner on the beach. You can get the same experience, almost, by dining on the terrace and avoiding the $125 casita set up charge for dinner. Keep the cash and splurge on a nice bottle of Argentinian or Chilean wine!

Room Tip: The hotel is "U" shaped. If you want to be directly on the water, go for the ocean front...
