“Wonderful Service, Relaxing Retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

We recently stayed at the Ritz with a group of 6 adults. We were there in mid-January so the hotel was pretty quiet but we had a great time and the weather was fantastic. We have never had such great service at a hotel. After checking in on our first day, we had some drinks and food at the pool-side restaurant. The prices were reasonable/as-expected considering it's the Ritz. The food and drinks were great! We never had a meal or drink that we didn't like.

The consierge suggested other great options for dinner outside the hotel as well. We went to Harry's across the street which is a steak/seafood place. It was delicious! There were several options for dinner close by. We also went to a Mexican restaurant suggested by the hotel and it was fantastic. That night we caught a cab to "Party Central" (nightclub area) and went to a few bars. For some reason it wasn't as fun as it was back in high school but still a good time :). We also ate at the Casitas restaurant at the hotel which is on the beach. We reserved a private cabanna for our group (also my birthday dinner) and it was amazing! We ate a fantastic meal on the beach with a lighted table, tiki torches, the whole 9 yards. I would highly suggest it - the rental was $150 but well worth the experience. The final night of our stay we ate at the Club Grill restaurant in the hotel. We were told this was the less formal of the two indoor restaurants. If this is the case, I can't imagine what the other restaurant is like! There was a dress code whereby men had to wear long pants, a collared shirt and dress shoes.

The meal included at least 6 courses included several items sent by the chef that we didn't order. They had about 6 different people attending our table. At the end of the meal, they gave the women a rose and box of chocolates - amazing! There is a breakfast buffet each day which is a little expensive if you're not a big breakfast eater. You can also order items off the menu which is less expensive.

The pools are great - heated! At first this seemed odd, but it was windy by the beach and once the sun went down it was so great to be able to jump in the warm pool. We also rented cabannas by the beach most days since we had a larger group. It was $150 per day and comes with water and two plates of food. You can also order additional items which are discounted from anything you order directly from the pool-side restaurant. The service was great as always and it was nice to have a spot to get out of the sun if necessary.

Our room was great and there was twice-daily service by housekeeping. You could tell they actually cleaned the room each time they were there - they didn't just arrange things. Overall our stay here was wonderful and worth the money. We would love to go back!

“Beautiful memories!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

My husband and I were assigned a room at this hotel for a medical procedure and it took our breath away. It was quite spendy (as you'd expect), but we were treated like royalty. Our room had a balcony that overlooked the ocean and gorgeous beach. Every accomodation that we could have ever wanted was at our disposal. Entire bathroom was made of marble. It was a once in a life-time experience!

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a room with a view of the ocean. It is breath-taking!!

“The color of the water is really turquoise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013

I wish I could rate a very, very good. I had a very lazy and relaxing perfect stay. The views, pool, dining and staff are all wonderful. The hotel is very posh but maybe time to redecorate the place for a fresh look. The place is kid friendly so if you don't have children you may need the private beach cabanas. Dining on the beach at night under the stars is not to be missed. Lucky us, we were there during sea turtle hatching season so we were able to help release the baby sea turtles into the ocean safe from the hungry gulls. I named one Tammy so maybe i'll get to see her return some day to lay her eggs. :)

“Updated from Last year, a decline”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013

We stayed over the Christmas and New Year holiday. The service has dramatically been reduced. Last year, the service was perfect. This year, people who work here appear to have lost their zeal for service. This hotel is older, but the service was a huge tradeoff for a newer resort. It is sadly, on the decline. Our room was nice, ocean view over looking the adult pool. But that is where nice stops. We had an issue with housekeeping all of our 11 days. If you didnt leave the room by 9, you got a message light to call them every day. They apparently couldnt come back later to see if the privacy tag was gone. Same thing for turndown. Small thing, but daily irritant. Last year, you could get a casual, reasonable dinner for 2 at the lobby bar (reasonable, meaning under $100) and this year, unless you like Sushi, no go. The other restaurant options are fine dining in the evening. Forced us off property more than we wanted to. We are beach people. We also like to order food and drinks on the beach. Unfortunately, many of the days there, we had to run up to the restaurant to find someone to wait on us, and then it took forever. Probably saved us a $1000, but again, we were there for service. The workout room is nice. The servers all tried, but it was clear that they were short handed. It seemed like there was no management on the property. We saw a guy walk around the pools in a Black suit, but if you tried to catch his eye, he ran. If you are going over the holidays, be prepared for a ton of kids. They seem to cater to kids, more than adults. We called down to the concierge in the beginning of our trip and inquired about dinner reservations at a specific restaurant for that night. They never called us back. Ever. We really enjoy the size of this property, not too big, but we will probably look elsewhere from now on. We paid over $700 per night, and they had to collect it by early November to guarantee our reservation. Even thought we are Rewards members.

“Club (Concierge) Level Is Phenom!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013 via mobile

My pregnant wife and I just returned from a fantastic stay. We stayed on the club level and it was amazing. The staff (especially Maria & Vicky) on the club level were so attentive to our needs and took care of everything! The staff was constantly smiling and the service was perfect. The food options were vast and alcohol being included was clutch.

My wife got a massage (one of the best she has had and mentioned that the spa was so peaceful and nice), a haircut and a pedicure and was raving about all of the services she received.

The beach is great and the water is crystal clear. The waves were pretty rough but still fun. The heated pools were especially when the sun goes down.

We used the gym a good bit and I will say that the locker rooms could use updating... But this was really the only thing I noticed like this.

All of the main areas of the hotel were wonderful and overall the property had a luxurious feel that made us feel special. We cannot wait to return to this beachside paradise!

Pros; exceptional food and alcohol on club level. Beach and pool areas. Great balcony overlooking pool area and beach. Lots to do (evening entertainment, cooking classes, excursions etc.). Attentive and loving staff. Heated pools. Peaceful common areas.

Cons; common area bathrooms and gym locker rooms need updating.
