“Third year here and keeps getting better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2014

My husband and I were recently at the Fiesta Americana (Coral Beach not the other) for a long couples weekend with friends.

I was debating over giving 4 stars or 5-- but when I couldn't think of a reason I'd complain about much of anything I figured 5 was the way to go.

We arranged transportation to the hotel from the airport and that went seamlessly. Tell them if you have no bags checked because they will be there a bit sooner (we forget and had to wait 10 mins or so).

We get an ocean front room on the club floor (3rd year in a row) and the room and club were great. Breakfast every AM (not considered "full" but excellent for a typical club level- pancakes, eggs, bacon, fruit-- short of ordering off a menu best you can get). Service is amazing both in the morning and the evening (when there are free drinks and appetizers). I forget the bartender's name in the evenings but he is friendly and always on top of things.

The new club lounge by the beach is excellent for breakfast too. Eduardo there is friendly and makes us feel right at home every year. He should be recognized by his superiors-- he is wonderfully attentive to everyone there.

The room (club level jr or exec suite) was gorgeous and clean. Nice earth tone colors go nicely agains the blue ocean view! Nice large double sink area.

Beach is great- waves not as big as on big stretch of Cancun beach (picture a 7-- Fiesta is on top of 7- most hotels are on the long downward part of the 7). I don't like getting pounded by waves so it is perfect. Sand is very very soft white sand. Can do without the rocks in the grand club section of the beach, but won't complain because there were always chairs for us and attentive service for food or drink. Pillows on the loungers very nice touch. Main part of beach was rock free.

Beach restaurant (can not remember the name- the one with the salad bar) is EXCELLENT. Service is impeccable and food is really good. Pool bar is great too- nice appetizers.

Only gripes-- there was a trainee attendant at the Grand Club beach station for 2 days and she didn't know much, and couldn't answer our questions (and didn't offer to get them answered). Also, the women at the desk in the concierge club upstairs are very friendly, but slow is not a slow enough word. 2 years in a row it took us over 45 minutes to check out. Next year we will go downstairs to check out. Their restaurant recommendations are a bit sub par too- I think they need some updating in that regard (a woman came in who they recommended a restaurant to the night before that was closed down….and we were trying to book a large restaurant walking distance to the hotel (El Mortero) and they didn't know what restaurant we were talking about. Not enough to make a dent in the trip but worth noting :)

In all a lovely property (lobby is beautiful as well) and we will be back next year!

We booked a package through Costco that included the Grand Club level, $1000 in a "Passport" coupon book & and an executive member benefit of a bottle of wine and truffles.
All in all, we had a fairly superb experience, but I felt we spent too much time scratching our heads and wondering exactly how things worked. I felt we needed a much better overview of everything to have properly started to enjoy our vacation upon arrival; not step-by-step and stumbling on things as we did.
When we arrived, the staff knew of our arrival and took us directly to the Grand Club level for private check-in. This went well, but they do hook you up with someone to give you an "overview" of the facility which is actually a request to sign up for a vacation club presentation. We turned this down, and although polite about it, this person, who originally offered to supply us with helpful info such as the Isla Mujeres ferry schedule, was now saying she would get it for us, "if she remembered".
We realized after that talk that we had not received our coupons or information on how the wine and truffles would be given to us. The concierge had to make calls to get this for us and she thought we would wait in the club for this when we had not yet even made it to our room. When you are sitting surrounded by windows showing the lovely pool area, and turquoise ocean (with children), the last thing you want to do is spend 30 minutes or more simply checking in to your room. I was unable to convey that it was a disappointing to have to ask (and wait) for these things I had already paid for and was met with defensive responses.
This is probably a good time to note that while the staff is willing to cater to your every need, there seemed to be some disconnect on them acknowledging a mistake or an inconvenience and apologizing for that. As long as everything is good, it stays that way.
We were given information on the Grand Club services, but still not totally clear on how the beach & pool services worked. We asked some questions at check-in based on reviews we read here or we would have known even less. There are 2 colors of towels at the pool - blue for Grand Club, Pink for everyone else. One day we lucked out and the attendant not only set up our chairs with the correct color towel, but then brought us a tray with cool towels, cold waters and cashews. Wow, we thought that was pretty cool, but on every other day we often had to get our own towels and that delightful tray of goodies never materialized again. Was it a one-time thing? A once daily thing? Or did we not know how or who to ask for it? Still don't know...
People like to claim their chairs early in the morning. A towel or pretty much any personal item is sufficient to claim ownership for the day. A physical body is not necessary. Given that, if you are really keen on making sure you get your coveted spot, plan on 6am-7am to get out to the pool and lay out your towels. We did this once and you feel kind of funny taking up the real estate when you aren't there the whole time, but everyone does it. If you like to sleep in, though, the staff will help you find chair space at any time of the day. So in reality, I just wouldn't worry too much about that. Shady spots are in demand and that might be the tricky part if you drop in later. Towels aren't removed from chairs until the end of day. So unless a person is nice enough to uncover their chair when they are done, you have to assume a chair is claimed if toweled.
Some reviews mentioned that the pool disappointingly gets shaded around 3:30. From our perspective, we thought that was just great (and I'm not sure how much I would have even noticed this if not for reading it in reviews). If you are from the northern climate, you will appreciate this time to escape the sun. The pool was always warm (84 degrees one morning) and the ocean was very comfortable, too. The beach is safe and calm and very unlike the open side on the east. We walked about a mile (maybe less) to the public entrance for Playa Chac Mool. We found an area where there were lifeguards and were able to safely play in the big surf for a while. We also took the city bus (9.5 pesos or $1) to Playa Delfines. We walked down the beach a little ways where there was a lifeguard and also played in the big surf there. So fun! Across from Playa Delfines is the El Rey Ruins. We did this first and fed the iguanas banana pieces before simply crossing the road to go to the beach.
The Grand Club itself is very, very nice. As another reviewer mentioned, it is new that there are 2 locations - the original Grand Club which is inside on the 12th floor and a new outside location on a terrace on the west side. We used both a lot. Breakfast is served at both and we mostly preferred to eat outside being close to ocean. Afternoon snacks and beverages are only available on the 12th floor. Evening hors d’oeuvres and beverages are available at both. The staff is very nice and will cater to almost your every whim. As I mention in my title it got better each day. The first day we had trouble staying in coffee through our breakfast, but the next few days our cups were kept filled without having to ask. Food and drinks are for the club only; you can't take food or drinks out. However, we did take a few beverages as we walked back to our room or the grounds.
Our room was near the elevator on the 10th floor. I thought I would not like this, but aside from the weird hum of the elevators, our room was quiet and faced directly out to the sea which protected us from ever having the sun blare directly into our room. I think this is key and I'd be aware of that when you get your room.
We used some of the coupons we received in the Passport. Two free drinks at the pool bar, a free bottle of sparkling wine at the pool bar, 2-$20 discounts on water sports (wave runner rentals for us), tequila tasting at La Joya restaurant and $20 credit at La Joya. La Joya was very tasty and fun. These coupons were great. There are also 2 coupons for free water and coffee in your room. We did use one of these, but since we were using the Grand Club we typically got coffee and water there.
It took 2 days before we received our free wine and truffles that was part of our package. My expectation was that it would be in our room when we arrived so that was disappointing, but when it did arrive we were very pleasantly surprised. A bottle of white wine, 2 bottles of Perrier water, truffles, fruit and a delicious piece of chocolate cake were arranged on our table.
We enjoyed a day on Isla Mujeres, too. There is a ferry directly next to the hotel.
Overall, we loved our vacation. Cancun is fun - the flea market is nearby and many options for eating or convenience stores. We felt very safe and despite it being spring break, we didn't feel this impacted us in any negative way even with our children. We would consider returning and now that we feel we know much better how things work, we would be able to use it even more to our advantage. The drawbacks are the few odd bumps when trying to convey a disappointment and not getting the expected response, the fact that Costco didn't provide us with information that the resort would try to sell us a vacation club membership, and mostly, feeling confused on how to use the amenities of the resort.

Room Tip: You may want to consider a room based on when the sun will shine into your room. A room that faces...

Very nice hotel in a great location. On the beach located in the center of the hotel zone of Cancun. Staff was very friendly and professional. Room was clean and had a view of the ocean. Food in hotel is average and expensive. Free parking. Would stay here again!

This was our second time back and it was better than ever!! The Grand Club now has what they are calling the BEACH CLUB---Breakfast and Happy Hour are outside in a beautiful area overlooking the ocean! To be able to eat breakfast by the ocean and have cocktails and appetizers by the ocean---absolute perfection!!!

Everything was PERFECT again!!! Room, beach, food and drinks, location, the staff, the pools the guests and friends we met, the kids that my son was able to have a ton of fun with---FAGCB is simply the an A+, 5 Star, top of the line place to stay and make memories!!

There is no doubt that we'll be back again next year and for many years to come!!

We topped off our trip this year with unbelievable photographs from Damian and Luci at Dream Art Photography (on site)!! Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach was our backdrop to memories that will last forever!! We were beyond pleased with the results and over the moon about the time we spent with this team!! Don’t miss out on the opportunity to truly capture your family and the moments of your life together!!

Feel free to ask me any questions you'd like about ANY of the topics I listed, or others....I'm a real fan of FAGCB and it was others that had been there and answered my questions that really helped us make the most of our trips!! I need to pay it forward!!

FAGCB's number one fan!!

Room Tip: Grand Club will guarantee a room on the 10th or 11th floor---stunning views!!!

Wonderful resort with excellent customer service. Resort is expensive. I don't know whether it was because of spring break in US when we visited. Resort location, Beach etc all are very good. It is not an all inclusive hotel and food is expensive. La Joya Restaurant and Coral Cafe are superb but pricey. I have all positive things to say for this resort except one - it doesn't have any kids activities. Kids club is a tiny room that is closed most of the time.

Good location in Cancuun. We received a complimentary upgrade and we had lovely ocean views from the 11th floor balcony. The ferry to Isla Mujures is nearby (good excursion). You can see the island from the hotel. The buffet breakfast is phenomenal! The resort is not full of just Americans and Canadians which is nice. The cliental is more international and we met Mexican families on vacation too. There are many dining options nearby and we preferred this to the all inclusive resort we went to last year. To connect to free wifi, you can go to the nearby Starbucks or Hagen Das ice cream shop in Plaza Caracol. If you buy something, they will give you the wifi password which never seems to change. The beach was lovely and not too crowded but you can't walk more than five minutes. But, I strongly recommend you cross to the other side of the road. On the other side you can walk for about 3.5 hours until you reach Play Delfines at the end. The other beach has waves. The pools and swim up bars are also nice. The service at the hotel was good except that we had to have our door serviced 5 times in one week. The door would not lock automatically and they replaced the batteries in the key card reader several times. We used the room safe so we were not concerned anyway but it was a tad annoying. The hotel also had no record that the buffet breakfast was included in our room package (Delta Vacations). We had to give them proof of our package via a copy of our confirmation which took care of the issue. The hotel has excursions but we used Delta Vacations for a trip to Chichen Itza. You can take the public buses near the hotel for $1 US. They run 24/7 and are safe and clean. You can buy bottled water and other items at two xxo stores nearby. I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a complimentary upgrade to the highest floor possible. The view from the balconies is gorge...
