We went to Cancun for a small family vacation. When we checked in, they wouldn't take you to your room until you meet briefly with what we thought was a concierge kind of person about tours/side trips. Nope, it was the timeshare talk! Really, it took almost 45 minutes to get her to let us go to our room. I was to the point where I told her either show us to our room, or we were checking out and going somewhere else to stay. The only way in or out of the hotel is right past those desks and they will seriously hound you! If you have to stay here, then take the elevators to the service level and walk out under the escalators to the street. They try to stear you towards the escalators then to the elevators, but just walk on past.
The beds were as hard as rocks. My husband and I had to sleep in a separate bed each, and we had to take the comforter and fold it over several times just to make it bearable. Not worth being miserable all day because we had an uncomfortable sleep. The hotel staff brought a really nice pack n' play for our daughter, with sheets and a blanket, and every day, they tucked in her little bunny, which was a really nice touch.
The pool was awesome, but that time of year it was just alittle too cool for a little one to swim in.
Cocktails are INCREDIBLY overpriced! Well, rock gut margaritas were $10/ea! ouch! And the restaurants are pretty pricy as well. Usually walked out to someplace not attached to the hotel for meals.
IF we ever go back to that area, Cancun will not be an option for us. It has really changed in the last 8-9 yrs. We did however have a GREAT day in Isla Mujeres. Would HIGHLY recommend going and staying a few days over there. If you did want to do Cancun, you could always take the ferry over to Cancun for the day.

I thought the hotel was very nice, especially the room. The first night we ate there I thought the food was a little bland, so I bought a bottle of hot sauce but the following days the food was wonderful. I guess it was an off day. The one thing to look out for is when shopping for souveniers the vendors are a little pushy trying to sell their wares, we spent about an hour shopping before we felt so overwhelmed and went back to the hotel.

I really wanted to stay in a hostel but my friends demanded a hotel. A friend recommended the Marriott MagnaCasa (or something like that) but that hotel was booked. So I researched and settle for Fiesta Americana.

But we didn't settle at all. This is a beautiful hotel. You can not miss it or confuse it with anyother. its the only hotel with a huge thatch roof. The hotel entrance and lobby are competely open! its like an open patio. Very unique! The pool was amazing. Had a pool bar but it closed early around 6p.

Room was spacious and well kept. No worries about cleanliness. Don't remember anything special about room service. We didn't have any problems. Great hotel. You can catch a bus to the shopping center. Can't recall the exactl busfare, but it was around about .65 or .85 cents. Bus R1 and R2 run to and from the hotel.

I can't recommend any dance clubs/bars. We didn't want to spend $30-$50 on club hopping when we can do it at home. We wanted to see the "real cancun". We hung out with the real mexicans. If you're adventuress go into town away from the stripcenter. You will find great local bars, cafes and restaurants. Found the coolest bar intown. We got to enjoy wonderful sounds of flaminco jazz music. If you just open your mind, you can experience an authentic mexican getaway. You just have to explore alittle bit.

Oh yeah, if possible take the ferry to Isla Mujerdes. Its the other island in Cancun. Once you dock, you can snorkel for $25 (meal included) for about 3-4 hrs. You can def haggle this price down. I think we worked it down to $15! Great inexpensive way to enjoy the island life. The ferry cost $7 round trip. Other things to do on the island: swim (beach is beautiful), shop, eat, explore the island. Hope this helps anyone's trip to Cancun!

This hotel doesn't advertise to the US market much, which explains why it was mostly people from south america and mexico there. It's an open air hotel, which means no AC in the common areas. It also lacks luxury features. It's much better than a Holiday Inn. The view is great if you're on the 5th floor or higher. Some rooms have a balcony and others don't. I looked at three different rooms when I checked in. The bed was curved but I put the kid on the curved side of the bed and I slept fine on the other flat side of the bed.

I reserved the room on jetblue's site. When I got there I asked to see other rooms because ours didn't have a balcony. I was satisfied with the balcony room except for that you have to run the water to get rid of the dirty water before you shower... (greenish brown in color).

At checkin time, I asked to see a suite and he quoted me a price which was only about $8 more than I was paying for with the jetblue rate. Once he found out that I paid a lot more than their normal rate he said that I would have to pay the difference in their local rates to get the suite. I.e., it didn't matter that I had booked with a jetblue (hotels.com). they would charge me the difference in room rates to upgrade. So instead of paying $8 more per night for the suite, I would have to pay $150 more per night. This alone turned me off to staying there again.

The restaurant food is priced decently: $18 for breakfast and free for the kids. I didn't have lunch or dinner there. (I had to call ahead before I even got there to make sure they wrote that into the room description)

They want you to do a timeshare signup as soon as you get there, so don't do that. I sent my wife and kids to the room while I sat and talked with the guy (who was very nice) and he was very polite and understood that I didn't want a timeshare. Once he understood that, he pretty much was very helpful and didn't push the timeshare the rest of the trip.

The pool is great and cleaned almost daily. The beach is very shallow (not enough room to lie in front of the hotel), but there are plenty of places to sit in the hotel property (just above the beach).

The staff are very courteous. Everyone says : Buenas dias or buenas tardes as you pass them in the hallway (even if they dont mean it).

We kept our things in the room safe and didn't worry about anything when we left.

As I mentioned, I would recomend the place to other families if it wasn't for the upselling tactics at the front-desk. The best part of the hotel is the pool (which was very very nice). The pool closes at 8:00 PM though.
