We went to Cancun for a small family vacation. When we checked in, they wouldn't take you to your room until you meet briefly with what we thought was a concierge kind of person about tours/side trips. Nope, it was the timeshare talk! Really, it took almost 45 minutes to get her to let us go to our room. I was to the point where I told her either show us to our room, or we were checking out and going somewhere else to stay. The only way in or out of the hotel is right past those desks and they will seriously hound you! If you have to stay here, then take the elevators to the service level and walk out under the escalators to the street. They try to stear you towards the escalators then to the elevators, but just walk on past.
The beds were as hard as rocks. My husband and I had to sleep in a separate bed each, and we had to take the comforter and fold it over several times just to make it bearable. Not worth being miserable all day because we had an uncomfortable sleep. The hotel staff brought a really nice pack n' play for our daughter, with sheets and a blanket, and every day, they tucked in her little bunny, which was a really nice touch.
The pool was awesome, but that time of year it was just alittle too cool for a little one to swim in.
Cocktails are INCREDIBLY overpriced! Well, rock gut margaritas were $10/ea! ouch! And the restaurants are pretty pricy as well. Usually walked out to someplace not attached to the hotel for meals.
IF we ever go back to that area, Cancun will not be an option for us. It has really changed in the last 8-9 yrs. We did however have a GREAT day in Isla Mujeres. Would HIGHLY recommend going and staying a few days over there. If you did want to do Cancun, you could always take the ferry over to Cancun for the day.
