“5 DAYS IN PARADISE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

My wife and I celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary here. We stayed on the 5th floor in the # 100 building and had a balcony with a spectacular and unobstructed view of the ocean. The studio villa was fine and came with a kitchen and whirlpool tub. Without notice to us, they placed rose petals all over our bed in a heart shaped form and even drew a warm bubble bath for us with rose petals sprinkled in the tub. Needless to say that made our night very romantic. The infinity pool overlooking the beach was amazing. You must take the couples massage on the beach for 80 minutes. The sound of the waves and the cool ocean breezes were amazing.
Have fun.......

Room Tip: If you love the beach and pool, stay in the #100 building which is practically on the sand. Stay on...

While this Westin is a resort vacation ownership property as well as a hotel (some people may not enjoy the resort/ownership crowd), it is one of the best choices on the strip.

The pool area is one of the most impressive (in terms of both size and design) in the hotel zone and it is far enough south from CocoBongo and the wild spring break crowd to make Cancun comfortable enough for older, less party-oriented folks...even during the height of spring break. Still, it is a very short bus or cab ride away (5 minutes tops) if you do want to spend an evening there.

More importantly, it is directly across from a large and convenient shopping and restaurant area where you can watch the sun set while enjoying food and drinks at a variety of price points.

Be careful when booking/checking into the hotel though. Most rooms have INCREDIBLE ocean views with amazing sunrises and ocean sounds if you leave the balcony doors cracked at night. However, the newer (and smaller) wing of the hotel resort may have inferior views (albeit more convenient/direct beach access--this could be a positive if that is your thing). We were booked into one of these rooms, literally steps from the beach but with a view of a berm and the sound of exhaust vents. We preferred the views and felt devastated. However, we spoke with Claudia at the desk and she worked really hard to find us another room for the week even though the hotel was very booked. CLAUDIA single-handedly made our vacation--transforming it from a potential disaster into one we will remember for a lifetime!

When choosing where to eat, do your own due diligence but make reservations through your concierge whenever possible...often free discounts, drinks and superior service accompany those reservations, even if made just on your way out the door to the restaurant. Food at the resort can be pricey, especially breakfast, unless you really want to linger and enjoy the complimentary Bellini, mimosa, Bloody Mary bar included in the buffet price...but it is convenient and alternative breakfast/brunch options are strangely limited. Either suck it up and enjoy it or buy some eggs or staples at the supermarket and do your own thing (and use your savings to splurge on lunch or supper).

Internet WiFi is flakey, but if you call the front desk they can send up a mobile hotspot (refundable deposit required) that dramatically improved our connection.

Spent 6 nights in this very family friendly hotel. We chose the cheapest room (villa-studio) and it was big enough to comfortably accommodate the whole family (2 children: 3 and 1). The sofa bed was very easy to open and you could fold it with the sheets and blanket on, took us 1 min every morning/evening to prepare it. The kitchen was very well equipped (real fridge, dish washer, microwave, blender, enough plates, pans and a washing machine and dryer!). The pools are great, the whole place is very clean and we never had the impression it was crowded although Feb/Mar is high season.
Very good service at the reception, in restaurants and in room: staff is efficient, helpful and friendly.
Bus stop to downtown Cancun is right in front of the Westin, which is very convenient if you want to go buy food at lower prices than in the hotel zone or just see something else than your hotel. Bus drivers are very helpful and if you let them know where you're going they will tell you when you're there.
If you'd rather stay at the hotel, you'll find all the basic stuff you'll need to cook at the Westin shop and prices are not exaggeratedly high.
Room service was disappointing. Food is globally a weak point: would be great to see more vegetables and fresh fruit juices on the menu.
I would recommend this large but quiet hotel without any hesitation.

Room Tip: Apparently rooms in building 12 are noisy due to aircon installations from next door hotel

We just checked in yesterday afternoon. We are located on the second floor of the new building and have a fantastic view of the ocean! It was really windy today which may be why the pools are freezing! I was told the pools are heated, but clearly they were not today..hopefully, maintenance will look into it. The wifi in our room is not so bad... Lunch was pricey but tasty! Service is really good. The concierge is really helpful. If you're coming with young children, I would recommend the$15.00 kids bracelet which gives them unlimited drinks and meals with adult purchases. My only complaint so far is the ice cold pools.. Really hope this is fixed ASAP!

The hotel is well maintained and staffed by well trained employees. The views are great from almost anyplace (room, pool, Restaurant). It's a great value to stay while working in Cancun. I book someone else into the hotel who has been in Cancun many times and they were hooked on the property. You are right across the street from any shopping you may need which is nice because you have a kitchen in the room.

I own two villas with Starwood and Lagunamar is by far the favorite. This is a place we return to over and over again. Cancun is easy to get to from the Midwest US and the resort is perfectly located. It is on the beach before you get to downtown Cancun, across from La Isla mall and has access to the bus system or a decent walk to downtown.

The resort staff are always friendly and helpful no matter what your needs maybe. And of course, the villas are fitted with Heavenly Beds which just adds to the comfort!

Room Tip: all rooms have an ocean view - make sure you know if you are near the pool bar - they like to have f...

We were at the Westin Lagunamar in 2009 and they have now completed construction. WIth 6 in our party we really wanted to rent a 2 bedroom suite, but evidently they only let owners use these. : (
So instead we got 2 seperate Jr Suites. Each room has a kitchenette, and those rooms are great for those of us that wish to purchase our own groceries while staying there. We went to Walmart and bought groceries, beer and wine and saved quite a bit of money this way. However, we also did enjoy drinks by the pool during Happy Hour, and ate at all of the restaraunts at least once! Everything was top-notch. One of the best pools in Cancun, and you don't have to get up at the crack of dawn to get a place to sit! On the windy days, we went over to the south pool to get away from the wind. We also love the location...directly across the street from the mall, featuring American and Mexican shopping and restaraunts such as Nike, Nine West, Coach, etc, and Planet Hollywood, Chili's, Hooters. When we wanted authentic Mexican, the concierge's were very helpful. We loved every minute of our visit.
