“Reconstructed Fort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

You can see the old buildings, yet some parts are reconstructed for you to picture it as it was centuries ago.

I think it's important to take the historical tour inside the fort so you can listen to history events, the phases the fort went thru, and also the different uses of the fort. There are a few interesting stories about the prisioners of the Fort of Ulua.

If you like taking pictures, there are a lot of beautiful corners and angels. The sun and heat strikes the fort almost all day long, so take a hat and sunscreen.

“Cool views of Veracruz ... but little a little bit in shambles ...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

The fort has a nice view of the city and its historical significance is immense both during the Spanish colonial period and the Mexican-American War ... however it would be nice if they kept it renovated a bit more and if you didn't have to pay a guide to learn details ..

“Well built fort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

What a great example of building with concrete. With walls more than 3 feet thick, this place will easily be standing another 500 years. Very impressive structure, interesting to see and experience the dark, dank rooms that at one time were prison cells. Even one of Mexico's former presidental heroes was imprisoned here. A FREE attraction, also!

“The most impressive fort in Mexico”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

The fort is humongous and really impressive, you get to see where Benito Juarez was kept, some vaults are slowly becoming caves, with tiny stalactites and stalagmites growing, it's located right next to the port and you can see gigantic cranes and containers - also very, very impressive (and a bit sad to know the historical fort is completely surrounded by industrial areas!)

“Spooky and cool place to see!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

They say this place is haunted at night and I can see why.!!! It contains some old warehouses that once contained Spanish gold, prisons where pirates and other cut throats were kept, and a fort that was used to deter pirate attacks like those of Captain Morgan. You can easily get a guide who will explain everthing, just dont do on Mondays-it will be a wasted trip since they are closed.
