“In a Maya Disneyland, a refuge from hype & hokus”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2013

Ate there a variety of plates at very fair prices at several occasions, nice patio, tasteful interior options, owners have been there since 1988 and run one of the classiest low key restaurants (closes a 8 pm) in the capital of Chiapas tourism. Most of the Andador joints are catering to all-out tourists who seem to love to gaze at other tourists and the incessant trinket peddlers, but at Madre Tierra you come for a few non-pretentious gourmet choices, bakery stuff and great espresso and cappuccino - at $6 usd nice lunch and $4 large greek salad

“A great find!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2013

Very friendly staff. Lovely building with a courtyard in the middle. Delicious food - we had lunch there. The papas fritas con chipotle mayonesa were excellent! The madre burger and huevos sandwich was also good - complete with Madre Tierra's homemade bread! Would go back if we could!

“Nice tranquil setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

We enjoyed sitting in the small courtyard with the little cat and the rooster and hen running around. All very peaceful and nice. Attentive waiter and quite good food (a bit on the greasy side but tasty). Good coffee, we'll come back for breakfast.

“Mediocre food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2012

Good place for breakfast with great baked goods. However, my recent lunch there was unpleasant. The main course of chicken was bland and the meat served on the bone was tough and stringy. We dined in the interior courtyard. The owner allows dogs to roam around the tables which is very unpleasant. I prefer not to have a dog begging at my table. As well, said dog defecated in the courtyard close to our table. It was extremely unpleasant and certainly turned me off this space.
