“Lucky for us”

Lucky for us: we found the Casa Ollin B&B while searching Google for an idea of available
accommodations and pricing in Oaxaca. The website was very well-designed and the
photos were so inviting that we decided to book our one-week stay. The staff
at Ollin immediately made us feel welcome and at-home. The location is perfect ~just
a block and a half to the glorious Ste. Domingo Cathedral and an easy walk to the Zocalo.
Our entire experience at Casa Ollin far, far exceeded our expectations!
We made friends among the other guests, and enjoyed starting the day with them at breakfast.
The traditional Oaxacan breakfasts were incredible each morning. Best of all was the tamale breakfast: hand-crafted and wrapped in a silken banana leaf, this was truly like receiving and opening a wonderful gift. What a delight for all the senses! The staff were supremely helpful in suggesting interesting places to see and local artisans to visit, and were a great help in arranging transportation to outlying villages and archeological sites ~don't miss Mitla and Monte Alban. If you get the chance to go to Oaxaca ~don't miss out on this little gem! Valerie and Carl Klem Santa Cruz, California

It was my husband and my first time in Oaxaca with very little spanish. We were looking for a place that was central, safe and were we would be able to communicate easily. Ollin B& B provided that and more. It has a very friendly atmosphere that makes you feel relaxed and at home. The hosts Jon and Judith provides this with their personal relaxed but efficient touch. They will help you with informed information on any of your needs. The staff is very friendly and some with smiles that will make your day or year. The cook sofia does an amazing breaksfast with lots of variety, mexican style with fruit and juices that are fresh and delicious. The location is good in a nice area and very central. There were a lot of interesting looking books in their library I wished I had more time to read. We loved Oaxaca, we found the creativity and art inspiring. We met interesting people at the B& B and around Oaxaca. We even took some art classes while we were there. Ollin B & B felt like a home away from home and we would definately stay there again.

We spent a week at the Ollin in March and couldn't have been happier. As other reviews here have said the staff and owners went out of their way to be hospitable and helpful. The location was two blocks from the north end of the pedestrian area of Oaxaca, in a quiet residential area, and near two of our favourite restaurants - Marco Polo (fish) and Casa del Angel (vegetarian). Our bed was the most comfortable we have had in any hotel in years!

Just a note to say that staying at the OaxacaOllin B & B was a great pleasure.
Judith and her staff were terrific and the breakfasts outstanding.
Was there with my friend of 45 years with her daughter and sister for a 70 Birthday for my friend and Judith even arranged for a cake. Tres Leche which is a three milk cake which is a Mexico treasure.
If going to go to Oaxaca staying at the Oaxaca Ollin B & B is the place to stay.

We found Ollin's well-designed website via Google and decided to give this B&B a try. The reality exceeded our expectations. It's very easy to make a reservation - Jon and Judith reply to email inquiries promptly, the rates are exactly what is displayed on the website. Our room was small but very clean and comfortable, just what we needed. The staff is friendly and helpful, breakfasts are plentiful and very tasty, the location is perfect - a quiet street within walking distance to all city attractions. Make use of Jon's and Judith's considerable knowledge of the area in planning your days. They will gladly recommend interesting places to see or local artisans to visit and help with arranging transportation, better than any commercial tour.

We recently spent two excellent weeks at Casa Ollin on our first trip to Oaxaca in nineteen years. We couldn't have asked for more. Our hosts, Jon and Judith, were gracious, courteous, occasionally amusing, always helpful. The breakfasts were outstanding, and the staff at Ollin were always pleasant and obliging. On any subsequent trip to Oaxaca we'd be delighted to stay there again.

My husband and I have been traveling to Mexico for years, but this was our first experience in Oaxaca or at a Mexican Bed and Breakfast (we usually rent apartments or homes).
For being as close to the Colonial district and Ste. Domingo as it is, it was surprisingly peaceful and quiet. The rooms were clean, and the beds very comfortable with nice quality linens.
Breakfasts were a marvel! Fresh made juices, fruits, yoghurts and traditional Oaxacan foods lovingly prepared by Sophia (her son, Carlos, cooks on Sunday) are not to be missed! Served with local coffee or chocolate, you share these great meals with the other guests. We met some very nice people and shared information, adventures and explorations with them.
The owners, Judith and John, and their staff, are pleasant and helpful. They have a library available that has many books related to the area and its crafts, and willingly share their knowledge about the small markets and places to go that might otherwise be missed. My husband was impressed with John's Mezcal, which he rates as one of the best he's ever had.
I came down with the flu while there (too close to a sick grandson prior to leaving home). It was my birthday, and I was not in the best of spirits. One of the maids brought me fresh flowers, and the entire staff was very solicitous. I was touched by their consideration, it was unexpected and heartwarming.
It is not lavish, but it is a lovely place to spend time and get a taste of real Mexico, and Mexican hospitality.
Incidentally, as cities in Mexico go, Oaxaca is remarkably clean and safe. If you do go, don't miss the museum at Ste. Domingo (a five minute walk from the B&B) or the Zocolo.
