“Wonderful place to stay, great staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2014

We loved our two day experience at Ollin. The staff is so helpful, the property inviting and the pool is a welcome sight after a long morning or day of exploring Oaxaca and surrounding environs. We loved the other guests as well and will definitely come back again. If you want a place that is clean, neat, relaxing with plenty of place to spread out in the living room, dining room, and patio areas...with plenty of TLC for the guests.. then you have found it.

Room Tip: we overlooked the pool and had the entire top floor.... had a king size bed, couch, two sinks and a...

These folks could give lessons on how to run an exceptional B&B. Nothing has been overlooked, it is quite amazing. Yet everyone seems so relaxed. The website is out of date (they are fixing it) and the pictures do not do it justice. Great location. Lots of comfortables places to settle into. Loved the pool (although most found it to be a little cool). Gorgeous property. Warm and helpful service. I was there for a week and am thinking about staying for 2 weeks next year.

Casa Ollin is a small, comfortable, clean, charming, friendly, well located, and family owned bead and breakfast. The breakfasts were delicious, made of local ingredients, and prepared right there every morning. The pool and patio provided a soothing environment for relaxation after long walks. Ernesto, a member of the family, is a well educated guide with very good knowledge of English who has studied anthropology and knows the history of the area very well. He has a nice size car and is an excellent, caring driver. The rooms, while not very large, were clean, comfortable, and decorated with local art and craft. We liked talking to the owners, Judith and John, who were always helpful with suggestions and information. If you want to get into the heart of Oaxaca, you should consider staying at Casa Ollin for a solid Oaxacan experience!

Room Tip: Don't get the room next to the dining hall. The noise coming from the dining area and the chatte...

Casa Ollin is an excellent B&B. It is conveniently located near good, reasonably priced restaurants and is close to the pedestrian-only avenue that leads to the heart of the historic district, the Zocalo. Breakfasts are a real treat, with a delicious Mexican specialty daily, as well as the option of eggs or oatmeal. Very tasty Oaxacan hot chocolate is offered in addition to tea or coffee, and breakfast is accompanied with fresh fruit and sweet rolls/muffins. We appreciated being able to continually refill our plastic water bottles from the large jug of purified water. Jon and Judith were both very helpful with sightseeing and restaurant suggestions. We look forward to returning to this exceptional B&B.

After the drive through the Sierra Madres (an interesting excursion) we were anxious for some down time and a sip of mescal, Casa Ollin didn't disappoint. Jon and Judith attend to the details and the staff was great. The central location really helped explore the city.

We loved Oaxaca City and we will be back to Casa Ollin. Thank you Jon, Judith and staff for a great vacation.

Room Tip: We paid the premium (which isn't much) to get a room with a balcony over the garden. Money well...

We chose Casa Ollin based on stellar Trip Advisor reviews and because we felt it offered much more than a hotel could or your standard bed and breakfast. Jon and Judith, the owners, are hands-on people who have created an attractive, warm and welcoming environment. Their staff are ceaselessly helpful, cheerful and knowledgable, as are Jon and Judith. As a professional tour guide, Judith has deep knowledge of all the sites within Oaxaca and the surrounding villages and excellent advice on how to reach one's destination if traveling outside the city. Group or private tours and drivers are very available or one can explore on one's own via local transport options, such as, taxis, collectives or local buses. We on three different days travelled outside the city: once by public bus to Tlacolula and Teotitlan, once via a recommended van service for Monte Alban, and lastly as part of a tour led by Ernesto, Judith's charming son, who took 6 of the guests to several different towns for viewing of ceramics, weaving, and alebrije carving demonstrations as well as for a great market lunch in Ocatlan. At no point either did we feel that there was any pressure to use hotel-arranged guide services versus venturing off on our own. Jon and Judith's aim is to ensure guests meet their goals, whether the orientation is for major sight-seeing and/or simply relaxing by the pool. Breakfasts were served family style at two large tables and always included delicious fruit, fresh-squeezed orange juice, coffee or hot chocolate, and an assortment of sweet breads, plus a hot Mexican breakfast entree, all of which were delicious and provided a great opportunity to try different types of typical Oaxacan breakfast foods. Truly, there aren't enough nice things to say. The comfortable indoor sitting areas were very well decorated with carefully curated
local crafts, and there was an enormous selection of guidebooks as well as more serious books about the history, art and culture of the area, all for guests' use. Our room was spotless as were all areas of the casa, including the pool area, shaded by an impressively large lime tree and a mature fig tree frequented by small brightly colored birds. If one is looking for a centrally located but quiet place to stay in Oaxaca with great food and personalized service, Casa Ollin should be the first choice!

Room Tip: We chose Room 9 on the owner's recommendation. While it is more expensive than some of the other...

Casa Ollin is well worth its top rating on Trip Advisor. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Oaxaca. Great location! The house is on a quiet street in an attractive residential neighborhood, centrally located in the historic district, just around the corner from the main pedestrian street, Macedonio Alcala and a short easy walk to Oaxaca's best downtown attractions. The guest rooms are comfortable, well-maintained and clean, the service is excellent, the staff is very friendly and attentive. The breakfasts, offering fresh fruit, pastries, and different traditional Oaxacan dishes each morning, are delicious and hearty, and the staff will accommodate any dietary restrictions. The house offers comfortable sitting areas for guests to gather and enjoy hot chocolate, coffee or mescal, while admiring the family's excellent collection of Oaxacan folk art and exploring the helpful library of books on Oaxacan crafts and culture. You can also find a solitary place to curl up with a book or take an afternoon siesta. Jon and Judith are very gracious and amiable hosts who go out of their way to make sure your stay at Casa Ollin and your visit to Oaxaca are as enriching and enjoyable as possible. Excellent guided tours are available to explore the villages and attractions of the Valley of Oaxaca. There's even a pool for a refreshing dip after a day of sightseeing in the warm sun, but it's not heated so beware: it can be a little chilly (but still worth it)! Casa Ollin has everything you'll need for a superb Oaxacan travel experience.

Room Tip: Some rooms have real king size beds (not two twin beds pushed together like you'll find in other...
