“Excellent friendly option in Oaxaca”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2010

Stayed here for three nights as a base for touring Oaxaca. The hotel is an exceptionally clean oasis and the staff always friendly and helpful. Sights and restaurants are a ten minute walk at most, yet the hotel is quiet at night. As a single traveller I unfortunately had to pay for a king room as the smaller rooms were full and they do not discount for single occupancy,so possibly not the best value for a single traveller unless you be sure to reserve ahead for a cheaper room. My room was gigantic and bright, with a good shower, comfortable bed/linens and ample storage space. Thicker curtains would help sleep quality in because you are forced to wake with the light, but this seems to be the way throughout Mexico.

There's free wireless, computers and a great kitchen for guest use,and the pool area and courtyard both offer good places to relax. It was too cool for the pool but it would be a real drawcard in the hotter months. Breakfast of fresh fruits, cereal, toast, yoghurt and eggs will set you up for the day. What really makes this place shine is the staff who always greet you with a smile and go out of their way to help with any queries and booking activites. I would highly recommend this hotel. I looked at a few others when I arrived, but came back to this one and was not sorry! I would definitely stay here again and think you can't go wrong if you choose it.

We stayed 2 nights at a highly regarded B&B which unfortunately was full after those nights so we had to move. We looked all over town, probably at 15 different accomodations from modest to luxurious (one of which we stayed at for a night just for fun--about 4 times the cost of Tia Tere) Then we moved on to Casa de la Tia Tere. It is an outstanding little hotel and an amazing value. The rooms are good sized, neat and clean with exceptional closet with shelving. The staff is friendly, exceptionally helpful, and speaks enough English to easily get by. There are 2 computers (gratis) for guest use. Breakfast is good, ample, though not gourmet. The location is easily walkable to downtown and the area decent, though hardly upscale. My security conscious companion was perfectly comfortable at all hours, including walking back there well after dark. There are two terraces, one on the roof top. We had "happy hour" by ourselves up there every afternoon with a panoramic 360 degree view of gorgeous sunsets.

First I would like to say that I found this wonderful hotel by using the reviews on tripadvisor.com. It not only lived up to my expectations, but far exceeded them. A very clean, quiet (except on busy weekends) and well run hotel. The staff are excellent, and helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a peaceful, safe oasis in a sometimes hectic city. Ultra safe for women traveling alone, and great for families because of the pool.

My friends and I decided to stay here while visiting the town for a wedding. The staff was wonderful to our large group, even making an early breakfast for us on our last day. The hotel is well-kept with a nice courtyard for hanging out during breakfast, a lush pool area for getting some sun, and a secluded balcony/patio for drinking Mezcal and watching the sunset. The rooms are sparse but clean. Mine didn't have A/C, but had a fan which was all that was needed. My room didn't get the morning sun, making it easy to sleep late. (Some of my friends were not so lucky.) The ladies who run the place were always nice and helpful. Plus the hotel is within easy walking distance of the town center and most major sites. I would highly recommend this place.

Well located, just east of the central pedestrianised area (i.e. quiet but walking distance). Dark central breakfast courtyard, but light, bright rooms with wonderful local furniture. Pleasant poolside and calm reception staff. Would stay here again.

We had been traveling around Mexico Belize and Guatamala and ended up here as our last stop. It felt like the last word in luxury. Clean white towels everyday. Clean sheets, great shower, lovely bathroom and large comfortable beds. The staff are friendly and helpful and the property is lovely. There is a small pool surrounded by a walled garden with solar lights that come on at night. Its very near the centre but not so near that its noisy, it is in fact very quiet. I would stay here over and over again it was perfect AND there is free internet access and Tea and Coffee!

We stayed in this hotel for a week in April/May 2007. It is simply one of the best small hotels I have found in Mexico. The rooms are clean, airy and spacious. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is a continental buffet breakfast that is included in the price and can be taken in the kitchen, or the courtyard. Tea/coffee is available all day and guests can use the kitchen to cook or store food. The location is central. It is about a 10 minute walk to the Zocalo. There is even free internet and a great swimming pool out back. All in all an essential part of our stay in Oaxaca and great value for your money.

When we were in Oaxaca there was a pretty heavy police presence in the streets (some in riot gear-unsettling), but no incidents. The streets and the Zocalo were full of people with no discernible tension. Not too many tourists however and some of the businesses were hurting.
