“Nice but a little too loud”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2011

Like most places in Oaxaca, the rooms are arranged around a courtyard. The problem is that sound carries and echos in the courtyard. We were on the first floor and stayed 2 nights. The first morning there was quite a bit of loud talking and laughing from the kitchen which woke us up around 7pm. There is a communal breakfast but this seemed to be the staff. The next morning a family with a very bratty kid woke us up at the crack of dawn and continued to make a racket for the next 2 hours. The kid was so loud and no one seemed to care. On the other hand, the staff was really helpful and pleasant. Our room was large and very clean. The breakfast is good. The hotel is nicely decorated and provides a few free computer stations. The walk to the zocolo is a little long but okay. Ultimately it may have just been bad timing for us because I did not read other reviews about the sound level.

Lovely little hotel, with all the basic things you need for a stay in Oaxaca, plus an incredibly warm and caring service and a small nice swimming pool. The rooms are 100% clean and quite comfortable, although the decoration is not exactly avant-garde. The value for your money is amazing, and a healthy balanced breakfast including eggs, cereals and fruits is included. It's my favorite place in Oaxaca, especially for the amazing service, the value for your money and the employees, who treat you like family.

Overall Casa de la Tia Tere is a decent choice to stay in Oaxaca. Service was excellent, the rooms were very clean and having a pool to come back to at the end of the day was nice.

Bear in mind that most of the rooms have no windows that face the exterior, they only face the inner courtyard where breakfast is served. We were lucky that we faced the pool and we had small doorway that opened which let light and fresh air in. If we had a room that had no exterior window I don't think I would have enjoyed my stay as much. Also be warned, the beds are very hard.

The location is only a slight drawback, yes it is about a 10-12 minute walk to the Zocalo but really, it wasn't that bad. Some days we even did it three times. Walking back at night was fine too.

My wife and I spend a week at the adorable little Casa de la Tia Tere in Oaxaca. It's a few blocks (3) off the city center so it's much quieter. And it has a pool, we love that fact at about 4pm each day after hours of pounding the cobble stones, visiting museums and haggling our way through the markets of this adorable little city.

The rooms are not large, but bigger than many in the city and most importantly, simple and clean. We were on the third floor in the "Begonia" suite and it was the best view in the entire hotel.

The staff is so sincere it feels more like your staying at a friend's house than a hotel. The B&B breakfast is delightful. Plus you have a supermarket and the Mercado de La Merced within a block or two for great prices on essentials and snacks for visitors staying more than a few days.

For the price you won't do better than this little gem. My wife and I loved it!

Casa de la Tia Tere was a really charming inn with a lovely courtyard, great pool, clean rooms. It's a really good value too considering that our rate included breakfast. The women that we met that ran the place and cooked breakfast were all extremely nice. Breakfasts were nothing fancy, but they will make you eggs if you like. The inn was a few blocks away from the plaza/zocalo, which was actually a big plus for us given that it was very quiet.

i squeezed in a reservation for the last available room during Day of the Dead celebrations. the hotel was immaculately clean, but the rooms are quite small. the location is about 6-7 blocks from the zocalo and cathedrals. a little out of the way, but very quiet and calm at night. breakfast was fine - fruit, bread, coffee, juice, yogurt, and eggs made to order if you can catch someone working in the kitchen - and exactly the same every day. there's refrigerator space available in case you have leftovers or pick up some snacks and beer at the nearby supermarket. service was fantastic, and after we checked out they still let us hang out in the garden and poolside while we waited for our 8pm bus to San Cristobal. free internet on the computers downstairs was a terrific convenience. a really nice space

Casa de la Tia Tere is immaculately clean, the beds are comfortable and the rooms beautifully decorated. There is a beautiful swimming pool and all the rooms surround a lovely, bright central courtyard. Breakfast is continental as well as the choice of eggs and is much better than many other hotels. But it is the beautiful ladies here who make this hotel special, they are so kind and welcoming and always happy to see you.
